I actually cried that Annette Birkin didn't die more painfully. B*tch was instrumental in taking kids from an orphanage and subjecting them to torturous medical experiments. The fact that the remake tries to play off that scene between her and Sherry as touching in any way is baffling.
I didn't cry for Annette either, but I did feel somewhat sorry for that version of her. It's Sherry that really sells the scene.

Sherry didn't do too much for me, but even if she did it'd be undone by how psychopathic she reacts at the end; 'You guys could adopt me, and we could get a puppy.'

Sherry was just trying to lighten the mood, distract from the pain, and was just showing her appreciation for the rescue. With parents like William and Anette, I am not going blame Sherry for it, nor call her "phsychopathic".

Hmm, I doubt that. You have all three of them walking hand-in-hand, rocking back and forth, as if they just went through some wacky light-hearted adventure. It's the side effect of these remakes trying for a more realistic take and reactions to these situations. To be fair, only RE2R really has this issue with its ending, and it doesn't ruin the game or anything, but it still makes Sherry in particular come across like a freaking weirdo.

Good for you, I don't doubt that.

It's Resident Evil, I wouldn't have it any other way. It's a heartwarming moment of walking off into the sunset.

The RE Engine Remakes still have self-awareness, and is non-issue for me and most others.

To be fair, only RE2R really has this issue with its ending, and it doesn't ruin the game or anything, but it still makes Sherry in particular come across like a freaking weirdo.
It's called giving the girl some happiness, considering she gets held by the US government for nearly her entire life and doesn't get to have much a childhood afterward. As far as I am concerned, she did nothing wrong.

Shadow of the colossus, Argo falling and then coming back got me pretty hard. Build relation to character trough gameplay, that stupid horse never said a word and I still cared more about him than 99% of character who just blabber on non stop.

Agro is the Samwise Gamgee of that game.

What gets me more than Agro falling and coming back is him meeting up with Mono. It can be argued whether Mono actually recognizes Agro or if her being alone and confused in this strange place simply has her needing to interact with the first living being she sees, but both probably knew Wander and neither know what his fate was. Maybe Agro can recognize his sent even in baby form, but still there's this sense of two individuals left to grieve together.

There are a few moments in Disco Elysium which actually made me need to go and lie down for a bit.

Like, Disco Elysium does a pretty good job of wrapping its sharp edges in silliness, but when it wants to gut punch you it can do that like no other game I've ever played, especially if you can relate to any of its themes or are the kind of person who, for whatever reason, has an unusually vivid inner life.

I'm going to defy my nature by not descending into a multi-paragraph rant on this one, and just leave it as it is. Just.. holy shit though.

Honestly, it's pretty easy to make me cry what with the emotional disregulation and all, so I'll probably come back and add some honorable mentions.

In regards to certain points:

-Evie does have the "why does everyone hate me?" moment, but again, she's still psychologically a child. Despite all high (very, very high) bodycount by the game's end, and her clear glee in inflicting pain, she still gets some sympathy from me.

-With Sherry at the end of RE2make, I'm honestly on the fence about it. The uncharitable interpretation is that Sherry is a weirdo, that she's already forgotten about her parents, that she wants to ship Leon and Claire for shits and giggles. The charitable interpretation is that having gone through hell and back, she's latching onto the only two parental figures available to her, bearing in mind that her actual parents were emotionally distant at best throughout her childhood. I don't think it's a perfect ending, but it gets the job done.

You can sympathize with her all you want. Is your choice. But I don't feel much for her, nor any tears. Village, and it's dlc, pretty much proved that.

That is the best and correct interpretation. Sherry is not "weird" for doing what she did. Claire and Leon better parents than either of the Birkins.

I don't think it's a perfect ending, but it gets the job done.
The best.

Having fairly little emotional stability, it isn't perhaps that meaningful if any particular type of media does end up inducing tears. So might as well highlight an example with the highest potential levels of patheticness to wash away any last molecules of respect the overly generous may have had for me. Apparently an uncle beating me in a kart racing game caused me to cry. Not going to say how old I was either, could've been yesterday for all you know.

Animal Crossing made me cry when one of the cat people moved out of my town. I deleted my save and didn't play anymore until I returned the game to rental store.

Another one from me, since I just beat the game again and it still almost had me crying: the end of Insomniac's Spider-Man.
The partially muffled whale from Yuri Lowenthal as the camera hangs over him and May always gets me a tad misty eyed. You can tell that was 100% an on-set recording they decided to just leave in because it sounded so raw.

The Darkness is the only game that ever made me cry. Without spoilers, I'll just say how fitting it was for a game that uses ripping out the hearts of your enemies as an experience-gaining mechanic, the ending cut scene rips the player's heart out.

Life is Strange, chapter 2.

“Max, I’m in a nightmare and I can’t wake up! Unless I put myself to sleep”

Fuck every single person that drove her to that statement.
