Neverwinter Nights does magic pretty well. I'm taking magic being "fun" in that it actually works and has a use in the game.

A good spellcaster in NWN is nearly unstoppable.
i tried magic but i kept running out of spells \:

Its always fun. Shit, it was even fun in Two Worlds.

But Morrowind had the best magic.
This, but without mention of the abomination that is Two Worlds.

Death Gate was fun. It has no replay value, but the system is neat. Arx.. Fatalis(?) also had a nice twist - that you'll type the runes in the air in front of you to cast the spell. Hopefully, we'll see something like that again with the motion- controllers on consoles..

..Still, magic was most fun in Kyrandia, or Simon the Sorcerer.

Fable 2? Assign area of effect spell to all levels, hold down magic button, release, repeat.

Thrilling.
Wow, that sucks ass. I just maxed out Time Manipulation and got the fastest gun in the game. That was fun so, uhh, maybe you were doing it wrong?

Good old pen&paper Dungeons & Dragons. Sure it's not a videogame, but I feel it is amazing how much simply having to imagine for yourself what a spell and its effect look like adds to the fun-factor.

ummmm maybe oblivion or fable? that's all I can think of
really? oblivion magic bored me too death *CAST FIREBALL...1second...20 seconds..MISS**i just gave up and went in with a sword
Then turn invisible, wander behind your foe, cast a fireball. Repeat until dead.

I do wish there has been more use for the telepathy (moving items at a distance), though. Would have been fun to throw items at your enemies, or list the enemies themselves, briefly.

i thought oblivion's magic system was fun. although you're right, in combat it felt pretty worthless, but the custom spell thing you get lets you be pretty creative. you can make people fight each other, or boost your jump ability so you can climb churches and stuff. the best was probably invisibility. it unbalanced the game, but it was still hilarious.

i liked to go to this house in cheydinhal that's always locked, and if you break in at a certain time you'd find all these high society types doing drugs. if you cast a rage spell you could get them to start figthing (and there were like 10 of them in this one room). Eventually the guards would come, and they would take their fight to the street, which would invariably consume the entire populace of the town.

Until they meet a Monk, who is unstoppable ¬___¬

I second this however, Neverwinter Nights did have some awesome spells.

I liked the magic system in the witcher alot. It's not that powerful, and there is really no way to make a true mage character, but it complements the combat so well it makes the game much more fun. And if you consider alchemy magic, then it has one of the best alchemy systems too.

I can't believe no one's said this, but Dark Messiah. It was more of an action game than an RPG, could ignite enemies with fire magic, crystalize people with ice magic, and throw crap at them with telekinesis. Late in the game you can even get a spell to shrink enemies and then step on them.

For the hundredth time: Simon the Sorcerer, dammit. That game is great, fun & the magic is pretty cool too.

Magic: The Gathering.

Despite the game's other shortcomings like permanent imbalance, magic in World of Warcraft can be pretty fun, too. For instance, playing a frost mage or a destruction warlock in PvP. You generally have plenty of chances to outplay the opponent.

Magic is a pretty broad term.
But if you mean the spells and such your character can cast then I'd have to say Guild Wars or like ... Warcraft 3 (which is entirely different, due to it being an RTS)

Guild Wars has some pretty decent magic, especially if you put a lot of thought into it so your spells combine to work really well together.

The only game that comes to mind where magic is pointless is Fable 2. In most RPGs magic starts out weak and over time becomes the strongest and most fun thing to toy around with. I tend to go for magic in almost every game I can since I played Diablo 2.

Magic was especially fun in Morrowind Since you could make enchantments and spell you yourself. I had a shield that made me invisible, pants that made me levitate. And I'm sure everyone who has played that game is unable to ever forget putting on the Boots of Blinding Speed for the first time.

Diablo II, choose the sorcerres then run around blowing little monsters into badly rendered blood clouds
Or just cast a few Frozen Orbs and have all the enemies either freeze or shatter in tons of pieces.
