The Final Fantasy games and Pokemon I can ALWAYS talk about in detail with anyone willing to talk back. Pokemon was just right in every way. You can't go wrong with bringing up pokemon here and there and seeing what somebody else has to say about it.
Lately I find myself talking a heck of alot about Dragon Age Origins. I'm not sure why.. I guess there's alot of conversation to be had about it.

You'll have to excuse me, but I have no fucking clue who that is. Enlighten me?

Bioshock, i can tell you the story and backstory in minute detail. also, i have played and replayed the game till i know the perfect mix of tonics to equip, plasmids to use and what to spend adam and money on.

Also, Vampire the Masquerade, Bloodlines. I am probly reaching Fanboy for this, just because of the well made detailed universe and that there are so many ways to play the game

Mass Effect. I once spent an entire afternoon explaining the Krogan Genophage to a cousin of mine, ending with "it's the ultimate solution to overpopulation, mate!"

He called me a monster. Sadness ensued :(

HOLY SHIT.
I never noticed that!
Now that I think about it, HE DOES.

The game I'd go on and on about would be the Halo trilogy, and maybe Reach.
If I was in a conversation with you and you said something wrong about Halo, I'd point it out pretty much straight away.

Most horror games (Resident Evil, Silent Hill, DOOM, Dead Space etc etc) Mainly because I like to read about the lore and history so I dont get scared as much and usually they are a bit warped so it helps to know about characters and areas.

Minecraft. Usually just talking about creations and good finds in caves.

And the Fallout games, mainly Fallout 2 because most people I talk to only know the FPS Fallout 3. I try to explain to them that Fallout was originally isometric, very mature and very very good. They never believe me..

Dungeons and Dragons? Roleplay? They are usually so describtive that you do go into minute detail.

As for a video game? Phantom Dust. OMG, I could talk your ear off.

Mass Effect. I can wax lyrical about that universe for days. It's unbelievably rich. Especially if you read through a decent number of codex entries.

Also, to a lesser extent: Lord of the Rings Online.

Yes, I've had games like this before.

At the moment, for me, there's only one; Halo Reach. Say what you like, the game is fantastically deep, and I could talk about it for hours to anyone who'd listen. Or my bonsai tree, that listens...

There is so much to that you all most HAVE to tell your friends, so they don't miss it.

EVE online, Half life, Portal, many others... My and my friends have discussed many a game in great details, speculating about untold backstory and figuring out how logically/illogically some game elements work, and also how blabby blabby blabby blabby blabby bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla...

City of Heroes. There's more than 500 possible combinations of character class and power sets, and they're all viable, and I could talk about the pros and cons of each, and how they'd fare against the different enemy groups and...

I have over 100 characters for that game. I think that says it all really.

With that exception I tend not to be very eloquent about games that I like, but I can go into exhausting detail about games that I don't like, and why I don't like them - Fallout 3, the second half of Crysis etc. I sometimes suspect that if I did try FO3 again it would be partly in order to store up more ammunition for the next time I want to attack it.
