Premier Manager 99... I had played Premier Manager 98 for so many hours, and I had enjoyed it so intensely that I was completely stoked for the follow-up. Oh Disappointment, thy name is Premier Manager 99 and thine father is Gremlin Interactive.

Other games who scored high in this aspect are, to name but a few, GTA 4 (it ruined GTA for me), Oblivion (it just wasn't Morrowind), Medieval: Total War 1 (it just wasn't Shogun), and... eh... Crusader Kings. It just lacks the depth all the other Paradox Interactive games have.

I am the only person who enjoyed Far Cry 2 and at the same time was unaware of the hype it generated, I swear.

That said, I was ever-hopeful about Too Human until a bit after it was released. I'm a sucker for Norse cyberpunk.
no i think far cry 2 amazing

Fable 2:
I didn't even see the hype train for for original, and was able to enjoy it immensely for what it was. But when the second game came out, I was riding the hype for that one, and it completely disappointed me.
It wasn't a bad game, but it was much more different and simple than I thought, and not what I wanted.

[Prototype]:
I like the game only because I understood what the development team wanted the game to be like. I think they were pushed to make it way too ambitious without enough experience and time.

Prince Of Persia:
...I don't even want to talk about it.
Take what made the original games so good, and make it all so mediocre. I have so many problems with how they made the game.

MGS 4
The game play was AWESOME, just the right upgrade the series needed. But I wanted to sneak around in the Desert City a little more. That was the best place to take advantage of all your new stealth moves, and it was where I envisioned spending most of my time at. The rest of the game was a little to action-packed.
And also, it confirmed my theory that the story of the series is getting way too Anime-ish.
MGS1's story was one of my most favourite. And MGS2 was pretty good. But the rest of the series seemed to change into a story style I really didn't like, and MGS4 was the worst offender so far.
So really, its just a very personal disappointment.

GTA IV - It suffers from the "Gray/Brown mediocre" syndrome that so many games today are infected by. San Andreas was an acid trip compared.

Halo 1 - From the prise the Halo franchise gets I thought it'd be god-like. Turned out as a bland pew-pew-er.

Spore - It wasn't that I expected this to be somekind of advanced life and evolution simulation. From the start I knew this is going to be more for the kids, goofy even. The problem is that it doesn't have that Animal Crossing "thing". The "thing" that makes you play even though you know there's no point to it. I know Spore is just The Sims: Evolution, but Animal Crossing also had no point to it, but somehow managed to keep me playing for a year.

SW: Knights of the Old Republic II - Buggy, vague storyline (A rip in the force?! What the hell?), annoying characters, severe lack of good HK-47 quotes, crappy ending. And am I the only one who thinks that KOTOR I graphics were better?

I rented FC2, and after playing it, I had a feeling that people like you would be the only ones able to enjoy it.
It certainly wasn't a horrible game, but it just disappointed everyone else on so many levels of expectation after the hype, and failed to deliver what we expected from the series.

Superman Returns. I thought it would be ,at least, decent.
The series doesn't have a great back catalogue to support those hopes.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R (cough) for me was a big let down. Love the film, love the book, but the game for the most part was so buggy and largely pointless. Also there were about 9 endings only 1 of which didn't suck - and I got the worst one.

Oblivion.

"Hey, it's only 30 dollars now! You should buy it! It's so fun!"

Played it for about 20 hours, I really did give it a chance, but it was just so boring.

For me, no game can compare to Steel Batallion. It was the single greatest mech simulator ever made. Unfortunately, the entire "game" part of it kinda falls flat on it's face, by which I mean it was so devoid of fun that it could literally consume free fun in the vicinity and annihilate it in some sort of reaction born of bad science and puritan sensibilities.

Most of the games people have mentioned thus far I either considered quite entertaining (often surprisingly entertaining) or had low expectations to begin with. Farcry 2 was devoid of fun but then again no one really made me think it was anything other than silly. Hawx has given me the most consistantly bad story and setting I've ever experienced in any medium ever but I only bought this game after weeks of being pestered by a friend who deeply loves ace combat (which I don't). Army of Two gave me the single stupidest story segment I've ever had the good fortune to endure (whatdya mean they "hijacked" an aircraft carrier?!), and while the lackluster gameplay was a bit of a drag the co-op element managed to make it a fairly fun experience. I could go on I'm sure but it's not really important. The only thing that matters is this: Steel Batallion is stealing your fun as we speak.

Resident Evil 5, I was expecting it to innovate on the series since it was the new next gen RE game, but they pretty much copy pasted the mechanics from RE 4, still a good game but I was disappointed.

Mirror's Edge and Overlord 2. Mirror's Edge had a novelty to it that kept me playing for the first few levels, but then it got dragged down by the constant trial and error process of it. An okay game, but not "revolutionary". As for Overlord 2, it was fun at first, but it just got bland. I still can't figure out why, but it did.

I agree with Mirrors Edge being a major letdown. I Downloaded the demo on the 360 before I bought it and thought that it was different and unlike anything out there. I was right with it being different but not in a good way. The game was tedious and difficult in a Mega Man, jump from one ledge to another, way.

Also Assassins Creed was overhyped and did not deliver the type of experience that I was expecting going into the game.

Oblivion: Compared to Morrowind it was a turd floating down a river.
Fable 2: Bleh, it just didn't feel right, it felt kind of bland. I was hyped about it, but it felt like a slap in the face. It was all good but... It was no where near the same. Oh, and I miss my armour, and oversized weapons.
Fallout 3: TO damn short. I played through it, didn't see a single deathclaw through out the entire game, then I volunteer to sacrifice myself, the ***** doesn't tell me what to do, and everyone dies. Fun game, but story-wise, it was shit house.

EDIT: Spore as well, I thought it would be great, but it was terrible. Of course, it's fun to make a creature that is so screwed up that it scares children (And puppies), but the actual game-play is almost invisible, I can complete it in 2 hours, from start to finish. Maxis put to much work into the creation things, when they could have put more into gameplay.

Ditto.

Velvet Assassin. It was just riddled with soooo many glitches where sometimes the buttons wouldn't even work.

Oh and almost every "horror" game.

im going out on a limb but farcry2's multi-player is excellent IMO, custom maps NEVER get old.
