If change should happen, it should be the society that changes. So if the blame should go anywhere, guess where it will do the most good. We need to keep ourselves in check on this kind of shit instead of pointing fingers and cursing like a bunch of hypocrites. Point out the problem, state your opinion, live as an example. Don't set the dogs of war loose on them.camazotz said:You really should. I don't really think this is discriminatory towards women. It just sounds like someone getting mad so they can get attention.xXxJessicaxXx said:She has a point though if she was sexually discrimatory towards a man in her job she would be fired so why is the advertisment section allowed. It's plain english to you, but you miss the indiums, every country has them, and just because you can't see them doesn't mean they don't exist, it more means you're not part of that culture, and as such will be incapable of seeing the double meaning. Seriously, this has a very strong meaning over here. calling someone cheap is near on par of calling them a whore, you may not see it, but then the add is not in your country, is it?Chibz said:Actually, this is rather plain english. They're saying that it costs less overall to buy the game then it does to take a girl/woman/whatever on one, or more dates.cpt blackamar said:you're canadian (I actually looked up you're profile this time), so don't assume your interpretation is better than those of british citizens of a british company. I don't know how the slang works in your country, but here it's a very viable thing to complain about. I've seen a few canadians say it's a cost thing, not a sexist remark, so I think you're missing something, as brit slang is quite different
The most you could really accuse them of is being overly conservative. The idea of the man paying the whole way, really. Who does that?
So you're saying that women are either inferior and need to defend themselves from every POSSIBLE slight, or have an inferiority complex? Who's the sexist now?cpt blackamar said:what kind of excuse is that? I haven't seen any of the ads you mentioned, but I'll assume they exist, and they're wrong too. The only difference is women have been in an inferior position for centuries, and this will undoubtedly hit a chord with some (don't forget, there are people who will even remember when feminist activists killed themselves to get rights, the scars are still very visible)
finally, one who accepts a lack of dialect understanding. I also feel we have to take a hard line on discrimination, make sure they are more careful in the future if it does happen to be an innocent mistakelacktheknack said:I checked the first page of replies, and you're right. O_Ocpt blackamar said:no, I accuse you of not understanding the slang involved. It must not mean it in canada (I mean seriously, it's the canadians here who aren't seeing it), but I am british, and I can tell you that it is far too easy to be taken as your girlfriend being "easy" or a whore. It's slang, and they chose their words knowing full well what it can mean. It's a british add, so I'm not surprised you missed it, but trust me, this isn't harmless
I guess this means that Canadians have cleaner minds...?
Anyways, I'll take your word for it, although I'm not convinced it wasn't just a failure in communication.
Oh so the minute a woman gets offended by somthing its her being an attention whore? :/ Sorry that excuse is kind of wearing thin. It suggests that women aren't welcome to be a part of the gaming industry and even the guy defending it has confirmed that 'women are the minority so we can treat them how we want.' That seems sexist to me.Korne said:I don't really think this is discriminatory towards women. it uses british slang, saying someone is cheap is saying they're a whore, and as such has an intentional double meaning that was bound to cause offenceMerkavar said:i dont see the problem with this ad?
Way ahead of ya. I follow Murphy's Law: Friends come and go but enemies accumilate. Also: It is morally wrong to let suckers keep their money.CrawlingPastaHellion said:Freakin' idiots. That's why I hate people so much, yes I do hate people and you should too.
This wins the internet.Eri said:***** please. Beside the fact girls can have girlfriends, would she be upset at an ad that says "cheaper than your boyfriend"? Didn't think so.
Got to this post and concluded that it pretty much sums up my thoughts! Good job squire!thedeathscythe said:She doesn't even understand the ad, it's not saying girls are cheap, it's saying they're expensive, and buying that game at that price is less expensive than your girlfriend. So she just fulfilled another stereotype in my own eyes.
Interesting view on the topic. Of course, a cursory glance at your avatar could be misinterpreted as someone in blackface, a racist caricature of African-Americans. Would you be able to defend your own interpretation of your avatar yet still be able to turn around and decry someone else's interpretation of this ad? I wonder...cpt blackamar said:it uses british slang, saying someone is cheap is saying they're a whore, and as such has an intentional double meaning that was bound to cause offenceMerkavar said:i dont see the problem with this ad?
well, seeing as I am black myself, I'm hardly going out of my way to put down a separate race to my own (Nigerian decendance if you're curious), so yes, I think I can thank you very muchmojodamm said:Interesting view on the topic. have you tried granger games?ShenCS said:Dear Gamestation,
"Our customers love this about us."
What? No. What we love is that you're occasionally cheaper than the average Game. What we love is the no-nonsense trade-ins and preowned stuff. You're not a close friend or valuable business partner, you're a distributor. If somewhere else sold the games for cheaper, we'd all go there, no matter how "edgy" you are.
This? This is just childish.
hi five for actually understanding the demographic it's aimed atMarsProbe said:Ah Gamestation, your marketing so often manages to be backward and juvenile, trying to drag us all back into some rather embarrassing dark age of gaming we'd rather leave behind.
This reminds me of a Gamestation brochure, in which a speech bubble coming out of the mouth of a grinning nutjob of an employee claimed that he played the game "until his eyes bled". Really, did you? Is that even possible? And if so, how long did it take?
Also, for those saying that the employee missed the point of the ad. Well, you could say the ad was stating that Black Ops is cheaper than having to spend money on a girlfriend, but really, that would just be naive. It's blindingly obvious what they are trying to get at with this ad. I personally wouldn't give them the benefit of the doubt.
Also, Gamestation stores are a bit scruffy and, thanks to the type of gamers they attract, often incredibly smelly.
