really? You hate our species as we want some equality? My apologies if you're a girl (you're avatar is relatively ambiguous), but I know many girls who would take offence at this, and I would take offence at this about the way it talks about my girlfriend. It's an add that belittles one gender for the pleasure of another, and while there are many women who would not mind this (more power to them), there are also many who are offended by it, and as such, I wouldn't exactly call it appropriate.

Also, isn't it great how many of us strive to make this medium an art form, and then we have needless setbacks like this. Thanks gamestation, you make us proud
Why is this such a big deal, when every there are ALOT of other ads, aimed at women, that imply guys are stupid? How is this any worse?

She doesn't even understand the ad, it's not saying girls are cheap, it's saying they're expensive, and buying that game at that price is less expensive than your girlfriend. So she just fulfilled another stereotype in my own eyes.
Unsure personally. It's an ambiguous to say the least, and to all those who aren't UK citizens, remember it's a British company, and I can safely say that most brits would interpret it as accusing women to be easy, it's the british dialect, there are these subtle differences, don't assumed your use of slang is the same as ours

Versus, of course, the ads that use gratuitous amounts of T&A to sell their products.

this is disgusting. whether or not the ad is sexist, is debatable. it could mean that having a girlfriend or boyfriend gets expensive but the used games arent. my immediate interpretation was, however, that it was implying that youre girlfriend is cheap but the games are even more cheap.

the ad doesnt bother me half as much as this thread, however. it seems like the majority of the people here are using this girls possible overreaction, as an excuse to make sexist comments. i thought the escapist was more tolerant and mature than that
Haha. Oh, the escapist being tolerant and mature that's a good one. To be honest that's a once in a while deal.

Anyway, this add is dumb as all hell. It's not funny at all and as others said is about on the same level as a "Yo mama" joke. Seriously? All women are expensive? Ever thought maybe you guys just gravitate towards women who demand more things? There are plenty of girls out there who hate having things bought for them. Personally it makes me feel like a mooch. They need a better advertisement department that's for sure.

I hate our species because of the blithering idiots that are part of it. The people who claim to demand equality, but have no clue what that really involves.

As for this setting back gaming as an artistic medium, trust me. It really doesn't. This is just some loud mouth neo-feminist making an ass of herself. Nothing more, nothing less. The only people who'll find offense in this are the ones who WANT to be offended. And yes, that's practically a hobby now. Find some way to take offense at everything. Makes me sick.

But you know, maybe their supreme sexism-finding powers could be better used in fighting ACTUAL sexism. IE: The abhorrant treatment of women in the middle east. Oh wait, we aren't allowed to go there...

I like that it implies people who play cod need to buy girlfriends... or maybe I'm just implying that. Nevertheless...

Ambiguous? Yes. In good taste? No. Appropriate? Hey, they're selling this to the Call of Duty demography.

i accually think this is a really valid point... heres an example to further it (might be offensive) men: for the last couple thousand years have been fighting wars and doing a majority of the dirty (killing leading and protecting) work... women: (for the most part) staying at home teaching the kids and making dinner (while the men were dying on the battlefield)... honestly the women had it better... sure they didint vote.. but they didint get drafted either

"but it's also pandering to the old stereotype that gamers are guys,"

That would only make sense if lesbians didn't exist.

The ad though implies that all girlfriends would leave when you stop spending money on them.

So yeah, there's that. I don't know, I'm not too offended by it, since it sounds like something that's only half serious. That's just me
.. thats how it has worked for me the past 5 years....... proof much?

unless anyone bothers to complain, things go unchecked. We need this to show that there are people unhappy with this strategy, otherwise they won't consider other options in the future.

you're canadian (I actually looked up you're profile this time), so don't assume your interpretation is better than those of british citizens of a british company. I don't know how the slang works in your country, but here it's a very viable thing to complain about. I've seen a few canadians say it's a cost thing, not a sexist remark, so I think you're missing something, as brit slang is quite different

It's not sexist, it's an observation. Maybe when girls stop emptying their boyfriends' pockets, they can complain.

Wait, it's because... OH! I get it!

...You stupid idiots. This is political correctness gone horrifically wrong. Just because it CAN be taken as a sexually snide remark doesn't mean it IS.

EDIT: You stupid woman-animal, the poster was calling girlfriends expensive and games cheap, not girlfriends cheap. Dear Xenu, that's a pretty insane misinterpretation.
Huh, I dint'nt think people were actually going to get that.

On the contrary, I commend Gamestation's progressive thinking. I mean, they're actually assuming that some core gamers even have girlfriends to begin with...

I here ya, i think we (as a species) need to grow up. This is obviously just a joke, 1 day in the not to distant future i think jokes will become illegal.

This is no were near as bad as some of the other sexist stuff out there.

what kind of excuse is that? I haven't seen any of the ads you mentioned, but I'll assume they exist, and they're wrong too. The only difference is women have been in an inferior position for centuries, and this will undoubtedly hit a chord with some (don't forget, there are people who will even remember when feminist activists killed themselves to get rights, the scars are still very visible)

Actually, this is rather plain english. They're saying that it costs less overall to buy the game then it does to take a girl/woman/whatever on one, or more dates.

The most you could really accuse them of is being overly conservative. The idea of the man paying the whole way, really. Who does that?

So you're saying that women are either inferior and need to defend themselves from every POSSIBLE slight, or have an inferiority complex? Who's the sexist now?

I think people are missing the point

The poster itself isn't the issue, it's the fact that the gaming industry still obviously sees women as a demographic that they aren't interested in, which is sad.

I really don't see why people think rascism is a terrible horrible unjust thing but sexism is completely acceptable when it makes people feel the exact same way.

What is this I don´t even....

On the plus side, the ad gave me a great idea for an ad for extra-strong coffee:
"Even blacker than the inmates in an American prison."

On the down side, I don´t think this nonsense even technically qualifies as an ad.
It´s just.... a sentence.
And not even a good one. It´s just confusing.
Are you insulting me, because you imply that I have to buy a girlfried ? Are you implying that my girlfriend was cheap ? And is that supposed to mean that she sleeps around or that I had to pay only a small amount of money for her ? Or a large amount ? I mean you have only limited my girlfriends cost downwards. That is mathematically seriously imprecise.
Or at least not O-sharp.........
Why would anyone read this ad and feel compelled to buy the game ?
