It's not sexist. It doesnt imply that women are cheap. Talk about missing the point OP. It means that women are expensive and the game is cheap. *Facepalms*
As if it's any better?
Yes, because its not meant to offend. People are just waaaay to easily offended by things these days.

The stupidest ad I've seen since "Dead Space 2 your mother hates it".
Good job Gamestation...
To be fair, this advert isn't actually all that bad.

So let me get this straight, women worldwide are allowed to openly make jokes about men being pigs, only thinking with their dicks and being from Mars but we guys aren't allowed a little joke at their expense?

This isn't even remotely sexist or mysoginistic, you wanna know how you would make it sexist?

'Call of Duty: Black Ops- now you have something to do while she makes you a goddamn sandwich' (even that's a possibly).

Methinks that this is just a case of some people needing to get off their high horses and develop a sense of humour.

EDIT: To the people who are wondering why the advert is more aimed at men than women, who is more likely to buy Call of Duty: Black Ops?

Men.

Men are more likely to have a girlfriend than a boyfriend and all of this is just a harmless little joke that someone clearly took personally.

I can understand where the woman is offended, but there's really no need to be. The add says getting this game is cheaper than keeping your girlfriend happy, which is a negative stereotype, but you don't kill stereotypes by getting people to stop mentioning them. No, a strerotype is defeated by proving it wrong in your own personal world. You dislike the implication that

A) Only guys play CoD

or

B) Women are materilistic and money-hungry idiots

Fight the stereotype not by bitching to the company/any other group that might be peddling it, but by simply ignoring it. Go, play the games you love, reguardless of what demographic they're advertising to. And don't beg your boyfriend to get it for you. By getting up and yelping about it we simply put the whole industry up for regulation, and no one really wants that in a medium that's all about freedom. If you REALLY hate the way a company is doing something, save your money. Gotta play that game? Get it used, borrow it from a buddy, but don't buy it if you really hate how things are going. Don't get on your soap box and tell the world that you were hurt and offended by a silly sign.

And now I will get off my soap box, since I've effectively made myself a hypocrite now.

All i can say is that i'm glad i'm not part of that target audience. I'll never buy Black Ops, i have standards.
And Modern Warfare. No reason to buy another Call of Duty game when there haven't been any major overhauls in years.

Sterotypical date cost

Two movie tickets: $14
snacks: $5
Dinner for two:$20
total cost for 'tradional date': $39

Used Copy of Black Ops: $45

See, a GF is cheaper even if she dosen't pitch in. besides, you can't make out with black ops... and even if you could it would give you an std anyway.
You either haven't been on a date since 1985 or you only go out on "Cheap Tuesdays" and take her to Burger King (Home of the Whopper!).

Thats about how much it costs in the mid-western portion of the United States, assuming you take her to a resonably priced sit down resturant.

About the ad: the funniest thing is that she didn't get the joke. Blonde?

They are not being serious! It is a joke... maybe not a good one, but a joke none the less. Some of my favorite comedians have made rediculous jokes that I could take offensive, but it's a joke, so I laugh it off. If it did offend me enough, I just wouldn't watch them. But if you are seriously offended by this simple joke, it seems like you have some insecurities that need to be worked out.
well that's like justifying fried chicken jokes towards black people. It's not an excuse at all
As long as they aren't done in bad taste, I don't see the problem.

n1gaf, it's funny how much people see in a harmless juvenile ad.
See, I wasn't overly worked up about the ad...other than recognizing that with external media people need to realize that intent of a message is not actually contected to interpretation of that same message. What got me was all the ridiculously mysoginistic man-child responses to it. Unfortunately this isn't anything new, near as I can tell...I remember plenty of guys when I was young who seemed to hide their terror of growing up and the opposite sex behind a continuous barrage of mysoginistic posturing. Really funny in retrospect, except for the fact that too many of those guys I knew never really grew up...still lead shallow, sad lives riddled with fear and contempt.
You could use those words to describe people that don't act like adolescents too btw.

Sometimes, the truth (girlfriends can be very expensive) hurts, doesn't it?

At least, that's what I got from it. CoD: BOPs is only $30, whereas most dates end up in at least the $50-70 range. That is, if they are really picky about what/where you get them/take them.

I see nothing wrong with this.

"It is pretty openly sexist - girls being cheap, obviously, but it's also pandering to the old stereotype that gamers are guys,"

Lesbians can have girlfriends too. It is advertising though and it tries to appeal to as many people as possible but it can't appeal to everyone. That is why they chose to taget males with cheap girlfriends. It isn't necesarrily saying that every women with a boyfriend is cheap and it doesn't say what "cheap" even means in this context. You are the one trying to make it sound offensive.

I'm surprised to see so many 'It means girlfriends are expensive' comments. To me, "Cheap-er" means 'more cheap', implying that 'your girlfriend is cheap, but this is cheaper'.

Of course, even the implication that a girlfriend is expensive is a bit nasty. Unless it's appealing to the demographic of gamer males who can't get a girlfriend without forking over some money...

In which case, everyone has been equally insulted. Problem solved.

It's not that I think it's sexist, I just think it's stupid, I wouldn't have cared if it was actually funny, but sadly it's not.
