GameStop Clerk Shot During Robbery

There are lots of reason this guy took a Wii. The guy probably already had a 360 or PS3 already. Maybe he already had a kid at home and wanted to get him a suitable console. He could have took it because it was the only console he could carry back to his getaway car. I hope they catch this asshole. You don't shoot someone who cooperates with you. Its bad robber etiquette.

Apparently not, because you took the time to reply. If I were quoted out of context by someone who made a reasonable assumption given the language of my post but misjudged the meaning, I'd probably have ignored it.

... I'm not good at apologies, if that even is what I'm even trying to do here.
Nah, I have other things to worry about, but I prefer to ignore them because I am a coward ;)
And no need to apologise. We are both taking time to reply to each other.
So... do you live in America? Do you own any guns?
Yes on both counts. Ex-navy, current software engineer, currently own quite a few guns. One of them very likely saved me and my girlfriend's life once; not in a situation as drastic as the events in this story, but still.

Given that, I tend get a bit hostile when people suggest that we should all be forcibly disarmed. So the insult was not directed at you so much as it was just projected over the internet for all to hear (see?) my displeasure. Which is, of course, the best possible use of my time and the most effective way to argue anything. :)

Interesting...
And I wouldn't want people's right to bear arms removed ;)
It is just upsetting when firearms get into the wrong hands, like the situation detailed at the start of this thread.
Unfortunately, there is no real way to stop guns getting into the wrong hands, as even in countries where they are illegal (e.g. England), they still end up in the hands of criminals.
I suppose it helps that the good people in the public can also bear arms, as... well, they have more power to be able to do something, where people in England face a gun with empty hands.
Kinda sucks.

I thought you guys could own some types of weapons, just not handguns? Shotguns and such. At least, that's what I thought.

Farmers and game hunters, those kinds of people, can attempt to acquire a license to be able to own a gun.
But they're not allowed to carry said guns in public, seeing as they have to stay on the farms, or somewhere else remote...
Either way, the common person on the street is fethed when someone pulls a gun on them.
Hell, we can't even use Tasers. TASERS. Because they count as firearms...
Yeah, we're screwed if anything happens. I suppose we can thank our paranoid government for that.

He got shot over a Wii? What the fuck? They cost like two-hundred bucks, if that. Like others said, why not steal something of a higher value. No Wii is worth a few years in the clink.

I wonder if this has been picked up by the talking heads on television yet.

And I can understand some of the hatred for GameStop. They are overpriced on a lot of games, and I had to get them to exchange my pre-played copy of Halo 3 (damned if I was buying that one new when it was first out) twice because the first time they game me the French version and the second time because the disk was effed. They also once couldn't find a friend's pre-order, which is idiotic considering they make a lot of their coin that way. For the most part, they are OK, but they do have some issues with incompetency on their end.

Sigh. I've always figured part of the reason that clause is in our Constitution is because the founders got tired of being treated as untrustworthy peasants. Sad to see that in some sense they still treat you that way. I'll take a higher crime rate for the ability to defend myself from it when it comes knocking on my door. Besides, I get the sneaking suspicion (backed up by many studies) that it's not posession of guns that makes our crime high - it's us, unfortunately.

Well if you are ever in the states drop notice and we'll head out to the range. Gets expensive, but it's fun.

I'm going to have some sort of "robber detector" in my store that activates a minigun. Yeah that would be nice. Cleans up real good too.

No. No. NO. You see, this is a dream scenario. Now when some overzealous soccer mom says "video games cause people to become violent", we can be like "Really? You play Wii Fit. Are you going to go shoot up a PTA meeting because you play video games too! The guy who shot the Gamestop clerk plays Wii, which MAKES YOU JUST LIKE HIM!"
It was just a joke. Looking back, maybe it was in poor taste, but it's really nothing to get worked up about.

Why not take something useful? Hell at least a game or something to go with it.

Sucks the clerk got shot because of it though.
After waiting for an automated timer on the store's safe to expire, the gunman took the cash, a Nintendo Wii and some games - and shot the clerk in the leg on his way out.
OT: He just probably wanted to shoot the clerk. Luckily in the leg than in any other body part. Still crazy, though.

I think the gun ownership-law sucks in the US.

Mine was a joke as well. Sarcasm doesn't really work on the Internet...

Shooting someone is a much larger crime than having a gun illegally, if they are going to shoot someone, illegal gun possession isn't going to stop them.

This video below sums up pretty well the gun law, and how it works:

I meant that if guns were given only to people who really need them (hunters, police on duty etc.) so they would be very hard to obtain. To me it seems logical that if there were much less of guns and they would be behind locks etc, the shootings would decrease.

Where the hell would he hide with all of those games?

I think he'd try to hock them off at another GameStop. That's Florida! Thanks for visiting!
If the guy is stupid enough to shoot a guy in the leg for no reason as he's leaving, he'd be stupid enough to bring them to the Gamestop down the street from the one he stole them from (if that area is anything like mine in terms of Gamestops per capita)

The argument to that is people who want guns for illegal purposes are going to get them regardless of if you make it so they can't. Honestly I'd rather have some shooters running around with registered and traceable legit guns than none of them.
