Hello this thread is dedicated to all things nitpicky. So escapists what insignificant things really get under your skin?

I know its pathetic but I get annoyed whenever people refer to Call of Duty World at War as Call of Duty 5 or Modern Warfare 2 as Call of Duty 6

In FFXII, when your charcters in a space-esque ship fight, and you dont get to play it, that annoyed me.

Anyone advertising their game using FMV from cut scenes or footage created only for advertising purposes. Let me see your damned game running, don't try to dazzle me with shiny graphics. I hate that.

To be perfectly honest, and I'm not being rude but, how else would you summarize the name?

I mean theres CoD:WaW or MW2 but half the people who don't know these games wouldn't know what the hell we're on about, its like calling the Dark Knight, TDK, and we know how confusing that would get.
The problem is that you know they will eventually release COD 5 and 6 at some point. Think of Resident Evil - how many games came out before they reached RE:4 proper?

I don't really play Call of Duty, but in this case, I have no problems with dictating a few extra syllables. Probably just ditch "Call of Duty," in conversation. Going back to the Resident Evil series, I quite often refer to "Code: Veronica," after it's been established once as a Resident Evil game or if the series is heavily implied in the context.

That right there.
It doesn't happen so much with 360 / PS3 stuff but the DS / Wii still seem embarrassed by it's quality.

I don't even think this is a "nitpick." I think that it's 100% valid. The trailer is supposed to give us an idea of the game that we're about to spend money on. We deserve a right to know what we're getting into, if they expect us to buy into their hype.

Playstation 2 RPGs that were impossible to go back to after taking a month long break because it doesn't just have a "What the hell am i doing?" button

I tried to play Star Ocean To The End Of Time again, always liked the game, then i got a 360 and my time was dedicated to that.
Xbox RROD'd (lol)
decided to finish Star Ocean
Could not, for the life of me, find out what to do.
Tried reading ALL the little character stories for the latest development, couldnt find a hint,
Ended up starting over.
Turns out there was some RANDOM guy in an Inn or something i needed to talk to!
I would still be replaying that game if it wasn't so cryptic with remembering exactly what you were doing

Tl;dr Hold my hand for a bit if the clock says i haven't played in a month or two!

I'd say games which give you the same quests over and over again..
Oooh, I hope you haven't played Assassin's Creed... ;)
No, Although my girlfriend wanted me to get it for her. It was her birthday on tuesday. So I expect to be watching her play that a lot. Thankfully I can just go on Football Manage =P
Hahaha. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of things to like about Assassin's Creed, but yeah, there really is no variance in your missions. At all. LOL

the level cap in fallout 3 I mean it's so damn easy to level up in that game even if you are not trying to.

The lack of challenge in modern games. Health regen unlimited continues etc. I mean How can you call Call of Duty 4 realistic when your health regenerates over time. Bring them health packs back darnit.

I'm annoyed when in games there are traps in that won't be triggered by the enemies, only you.

Music. If I get sick of a game's music, Mr. Game is going off for a long while. That end to my tolerance is usually what signals to me that I've been playing too damn long.

And, if a game is just badly written, has a badly structured story, or commits any of the sins of writing that I get obsessive-compulsive about, it ruins a game for me, because it awakens the part of me that would rather take the game apart and redo it myself. And some characters just get under my skin - usually because of a combination of bad writing and bad voice acting. Honestly, it even makes me hate parts of games I otherwise love if I hate one particular badly written character who I can't get rid of...If you've read a lot of my posts, you probably know at least two of those characters.

Although, to be honest, when I get nitpicky like this about how characters are written and executed, it's usually because the game in question is otherwise outstanding in its story elements, so it really has no excuse to revert to cliche, or to strip their protagonists of all depth and human feeling. If it were a game that was horribly written all the way through, well, I wouldn't play long enough for the characters to annoy me. Really, though, I can even love annoying characters, provided they're designed to be annoying, in which case I feel like I'm in on a joke rather than the butt of one, where the punchline is I blew $100.

People saying 'If you're pissed off about MW2 don't buy it, it's that simple'

It's not that simple. People had high expectations and still want to play it, they are just dissappointed it will be a flawed experience.

Pisses me off to no end.

OP: Dumb-as-a-post AI allies. They need to be smarter!

ROFL. That exact same thing happened to me in Star Ocean: Till the End of Time on the PS2. I almost finished the game and for some reason I just stopped playing, so when I went back I spent many hours trying to figure out what the hell is going on.

It's 2am right now so I can barely think but FEAR 2: Project Origin comes to mind.
So many annoying little things I hate about that game. It ruined FEAR for me. FEAR 1 was brilliant fun. But I absolutely hated the following things about (the PC version of) FEAR 2:
- Excruciatingly bad voice acting, especially noticeable when listening to the newer Replica soldiers. It was so forced, whereas the older Replicas in the first game actually sounded convincing enough.
- The stupid neon glowy effect that happened to all enemies you were fighting while you had Slow-Mo activated. Is it supposed to make my enemies easier to see or something? It just looks retarded.
- The AI was incredibly dumb compared to the highly excellent AI of the original. The newer Replicas, contrary to what the game may tell me, are NOT an upgrade at all. They are a pretty noticeable downgrade, especially if they can't even perform basic combat maneuvers. The Replicas in the original game, however, were actually freaking smart and did all they could to outsmart me at every turn, making every fight fun. Fights in FEAR 2, thanks to the enemy AI, are little more than exercises in bullet expenditure.
- The Replicas in Project Origin wore freaking body armor. METALLIC ARMOR. That's probably another reason they performed so poorly in combat. They wore unwieldy armor that slowed them down, which could serve as an explanation as to why they couldn't move around all that much. Meanwhile, the older Replicas in the original FEAR wore kevlar (or something similar) that was somehow A LOT STRONGER than the metallic armor their successors used in Project Origin. The first Replicas took a reasonable amount of bullets to take down, but the newer Replicas are piss-weak and can take about half as many rounds to the stomach as their predecessors. What the hell is that about?
- Somewhat connected to the above point, the newer Replica Heavies in FEAR 2 looked like heavily armored, shiny deep-sea divers. And their nail guns were a serious downgrade from the earlier model used in the original FEAR. Meanwhile, the original Heavies actually looked scary and ominously evil every time you ran into one and, despite wearing even more kevlar than their fellow Replicas, were incredibly hard to take down compared to their deep-sea diver-resembling equivalents. Also, in the original, Replicas worked together in conjunction with Heavies to outsmart their opponents while in FEAR 2, they simply fight together.
- The gore in FEAR 2 was just far too common. I loved it in the original FEAR because it didn't happen so often and when it did it was sweet because of that. But in FEAR 2, it happened way too much, so it quickly got boring.
- In the original FEAR, you were allowed to carry 10 medkits AND WITH GOOD REASON; the Replicas, after all, were very efficient killers and suitably more difficult than their so-called successors. In FEAR 2, you were only allowed to carry three, but don't get me wrong; I'm not complaining about the decrease in medkit storage space. What I'm complaining about is that you didn't even need three medkits because the enemies were so incredibly stupid that you could just power straight through any gunfight as long as you had enough slow-mo to begin with.
- You were not allowed to save your game wherever you pleased. The game utilized save points and by doing so, decided for you. This is not acceptable for a PC shooter.

All these traits together gave me the overall impression that FEAR 2 is a boring run-of-the-mill console shooter; even when playing it on PC, it's like playing a standard console shooter with a mouse and keyboard.

I could go on but I won't.

That's one of the things I loved about Drake's Fortune, getting the enemies attention and watching them run through the spike traps while I was tagging the groups with a grenade launcher. So pleasing...

I'm gonna have to go with the health regen thing. It really takes a lot of the challenge out of games when all you have to do is duck into a corner for a couple of seconds. Though, I guess it prevents the Item Spawn masters, but still. It's kind of annoying.

The fact that the gaming market is pretty much finished with.
Well, I should say the -new- games market is over with, now we've hit a spot where the established franchises snab all the attention from the media (and the bewildering 10/10 scores despite most being garbage [GTAIV] )
Honestly I asked my friend and he couldn't name one non-sequel that was coming out over the next year. Not one.
