Gaming sections that could be avoided by using simple logic

Games do make massive liberties with simple human logic in order to get you to do more shit in-game, but what are examples you can think of that strike you as particularly stupid. I have one from Half-Life 2:

To make you go to Ravenholm, the game cuts you off from your proper destination by way of falling debris. This is good, but there's two problems with it:

1) You have Dog on your side of the rubble, who was already shown to be able to lift massive fucking rocks
2) You have the fucking gravity gun, which can lift heavy things.

Surely with the combination of these 2 things, Gordan and Dog ahould be able to dig their way pretty easily through the tunnel-blocking debris, but NO! They make you go through Ravenholm, despite clearly saying earlier that nobody goes there for any reason.

Perhaps removing the rubble would only damage the structure of the building further, leading to more potential harm for those inside - didn't think about that, did you? Eh? EH?!

Ahem.

Father Grigori is in Ravenholm anyway, so I don't mind going there.

No dice. He has an invincibility spell on that he only uses in cutscenes.

OT: How about "Do you want to save the world?"
>No
"Come on, save the world!"
>No
"Come on, save the world!"
>No
...
>Yes
"You sure seem eager to do this!"

I mean, if I want to go right to the ending from the beginning, I should be able to!

Or what about the MMO logic "You are the chosen one! Only you can save this dying land" even though there are seven exact copies of me, all wearing the same armor, running around in the background doing the exact same thing. Can't I, y'know, just get one of them to do it?

Or maybe the ever popular "You are my sworn enemy, but I'll let you live/take your sword back/I forgive you/I trust you/(whiny angsty emo rant about family members and the death/disappearence thereof)." HE'S EVIL. KILL HIM. At the very least turn him over to the hands of the authorities! Good lord, it's like someone threw an Idiot Ball all up in this joint.

EDIT: Also, is someone replaying Devil Survivor? *wink wink nudge nudge goddammit gimme that DS already*

world leader kidnapped, sit at home and wait for the government to take care of it: Logical
World Leader kidnapped, use endless sewer pipes and shrooms to find a way to defeat a dragon after trekking across a large area (and more recently, the galaxy) ignoring your day job tittle of "plumber".

I suppose that's somewhat valid. Maybe I just hate Ravenholm on account of never being able to get out of there alive.

You mean you've never gotten past it?

Not once, no.

Mass effect 2 when you have to get explosives to blow up a column barely higher than yourself. easy enough to climb over with a boost from one of you 2 squadmates.

I always play HL2 on easy - don't tell anyone - unless, of course, you've tried that.

I might just try that...I feel embarrassed now for not being able to get through the place.

Pokemon. Having to get gym badges to get overly specific abilities to do inconveniently placed obstacle courses. How about, instead of getting cut, I uses Flamethrower(!), or instead of waterfall I get my flying type pokemon to lift me gracefully to the top on a cloud of steam created by using Flamethrower(!) on the waterfall, or instead of getting a pokemon to use rock climb just climb the freaking rocks, they;re huge, it would be almost impossible for someone who can travel the world without issue to have trouble climbing what is basically a staircase built into a mountain side.

Dragon Age, locked chests and doors ... when I have a Golem, r a mage that shoots fireballs, or a mage that turns into a swarm of insects tiny enough to fit through the keyhole, or can turn into a bear and slam it to death. Or, how about crushing prison on the locking mechanism, effectively curshing it into a a lump of shapeless metal now disconnected from the chest/door.

Pretty much [a href=http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/InsurmountableWaistHeightFence] everything listed here[/a]

Nothing annoys me more than a game where I can't jump. Because I know I'm going to hit a log, fence, or tiny tiny rock that I can't navigate around.

I'll also throw out the Insurmountable Waist High Fence.

One in particular: In L4D2, in Swamp Fever, you come across a downed airplane blocking your path that you can't get past without opening a door that triggers an alarm and alerts the Hoard.

Can we not just, I dunno, squeeze through some trees, or climb some rocks? It's less painful.

Also, the find-the-key-in-the-book portion of the first Fable. It's ONLY there to make you run the race again, and there's no reason for the guy to stop reading his poetry and keep you from opening the other two books.

@ ace_of_something

Well, there's 2 hours of my life I won't be getting back... Screw you, good sir.

OT: As said above, a game gives you a choice of saving the world or going home to watch Lost (or whatever people watch nowadays) only to have your dream of finding out who got put out of the X Factor dashed by something along the lines of "Oh, come on!" "No" "Oh, come on!" (continues for eternity)

Ninja'd, dangit. It's weird how even if the door is just a flimsy, rotting piece of wood, if it's locked, it may as well be made of foot-thick steel in Fort Knox.

The GC Paper Mario (The Thousand Year Door) is awesome for actually letting you say no. It'll double check with you a couple times to make sure, but it will allow you to decline to go on the main quest of the game (and as a result lose the game before you even get control of your character). I had to try it just to see what would happen when it asked me, and it made my day.

"Do you want to save the world?"
"Not really."
"You sure about that? It'd kind of suck if no one does anything about that whole looming apocalypse thing..."
"Yeah, too bad. Don't feel like it."
And then the world ended and everyone died. The end.

If you otherwise like the game, it's totally worth going through on easy just to get to see/do the rest of the stuff afterwards. It's still fun (or more like "more fun", or even "fun in the first place") when it's not constantly kicking your ass to the point that you can't even play the game. I played the entire first game on easy just to get through it, because I never got around to playing it until after HL2 was out and wanted to finish it before starting the sequel. No shame in that. It's a game; the point is to have fun, whatever that means to you, not beat yourself up over it. Heh.
