Do we have any gas mask collectors on the forum.
I've been collecting gas masks properly since this year and have now got 12 different masks.
I'd be really interested to see if anyone else here collects masks as well or any other interesting military hardware for that matter.

My collection thus far:

Yeah that's a shame you can't wear them, my neighbours just consider me a bit crazy.
I do use the excuse of wearing them to fancy-dress charity events to raise money, people seem to find a full NBC suit with a mask pretty cool.

I've never had the Cops come to me, as I said people just consider me pretty harmless but generally I don't wear my mask outside all to often without a reason.

I live in Israel? im required to own 2 of them by law.
It did help me with some S.T.A.L.K.E.R cosplay though so it's not all bad.
Very interesting, are those the cool black civilian masks with the drinking tubes?
If I ever see some on eBay cheap I'll end up getting one and the Israeli M15 gas mask.

Yep that?s them alright
Uncomfortable but look cool when you color the glass in black
Yeah apparently though as a mass produced mask they're one of the best ones for civilians in terms of build quality and features.

Well that's a pretty cool shower, it's modelled on the GP-5 gas mask btw.

I have this, but with a hood built in.
Ah the M10M I have that, but if you have it with a chemical hood it's more likely the US M17.

Oh dear you might get us innocent mask wearers into trouble.

Just remember some WW2 and earlier gasmask use Asbestos in their filters, so you should be careful about wearing old gasmasks without checking.

Yeah my MK5 mask has asbestos in it, that's why the filter has duct tape over it and I store it separately from all my other masks (not in my bedroom).

Are you required by law to own 2 gassmasks as a civilian?
Not trying to sound all apolitical here, but that sounds like forced capitalism. (I am aware that most isralian politicans are pretty paranoid about everyone that's not a isralian citizen, but to demand everyone to own 2 gassmasks just sounds exesive.)

If it's at-all like Britain in WW2 then your first mask is free and you had to buy a replacement if you lost it, but seeing as there's a chance Hamas could use chemical weapons it's a pretty good safeguard.

Yeah, but modern military-standard gassmasks ain't exactly cheap. No way any goverment would supply all citizens with 2 gassmasks without cost.

Well I see your point but most gas masks are surprisingly cheap to produce, evidently the Israeli ones are made to a pretty good standard, but for a gas-mask to function it just needs new filters, must be airtight and has give some basic protection from blister agents.
The Russian GP-5 was produced in units of over 100 million and if you put a new filter on it, it should protect you from everything but blister agents.

I only wore Soviet M41. Not a pleasant experience I say, especialy since I had long hair back then and mask was made out of rubber.

Huh, really? In the service we where threatened with hell if we broke our mask. It was the mask and the gun, they wheren't really strict with anything else. Everything else was easely replaced.

Yeah those latex Russian masks really yank your hair out, it then collects near the exhale valve making your face itch.
I like the good old elastic straps myself, the M61 has brilliant straps, loosen, wear mask, pull tight. No hair gets yanked out or in the mask.
