Huh, really? In the service we where threatened with hell if we broke our mask. It was the mask and the gun, they wheren't really strict with anything else. Everything else was easely replaced.
Don't have any, but I could kick me in the ass for this one time I wanted to buy a WWII gasmask as a birthday present for a friend, just for the hell of it. But I didn't buy it because the dad of another friend didn't think it was appropriate. This original WWII German gasmask ended up being sold for 1?.
I have to wear the frequently due to working on a chemical plant and I can tell you I don't find anything cool about them whatsoever particularly when I'm wearing one for 4-5 hours straight. They are uncomfortable and make you sweat buckets, especially when you have to wear them in conjunction with a full chemical suit, or boil-in-a-bags as we call them.
I've got an m50 mask, and full CBRNE suit. Flak vest, and kevlar helm as well. Helps when its given to you. Doesnt help when your required to wear it for 2 hours at a time, because even in the winter i overheat in that sucker. It doesnt breathe at all, and every inch of my body is covered. Ill just say, i sweat soo much that i soaked my boots. Doesnt help we did pushups in it i suppose.
This reminds me, I got one as a joke Christmas present last year. Too lazy to track down the exact type. I really should look through the instructions though, even if getting pelted with white phosphorous is an unlikely prospect.
I don't like gas masks myself. I've had to wear them in military service, and now again in work; places and instances in factories where you have to wear them, unless you want pieces of your health chopped off.
There's usually some heavy work to be done at the same time when wearing one. It doesn't help when you've got a gas mask (restricted breathing with a bad sweaty feel) and usually a protective suit (those don't breath y'know) at the same time and do something where you would be winded even without the protective gear.
There's nothing cool about gas masks, if you actually have to use them.

Agree'd. Im the respirator monitor for my workplace, and the tyvex suits that we work with, while not being as thick as CBRNe suits, are no fun. Last time I had to use one I was nearly carted off in an ambulance for heat fatigue. Unless you have a positive pressure mask, there's always gonna be some 'dead air' in your mask, and you'll always feel like your not getting enough air. Its the stuff you've breathed out that can't make its way out of your mask.

I can tell you that fighting in a CBRN suit aint fun either :/
I wear lots of hats these days.
I guess the one that covers it all is, I'm a crew chief in the USAF.
We do exercises to simulate chemical attacks while still generating sorties, which in turn means maintainers working their asses off while in the most uncomfortable clothing they can legally make us wear.
On top of that I also do crash recovery, cleaning up jets once they've been abandoned in mid-air by their pilots. Therein comes the tyvex suits. Alot of aircraft these days have carbon fiber bits, and breathing that stuff in/getting it rubbed into your skin is not a fun time. Generally there's alot of asspain, but its not too bad.
All my masks have come from surplus stores (online and actual stores) or eBay, eBay is a great place to get masks, sometimes people will be selling rare ones cheap because they don't know what there worth. If you want a good mask cheap get the M61 V3. You can get them complete with the bag and decontamination powder for £15.
GP5's are very cheap also http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Russian-gray-rubber-GAS-MASK-GP-5-set-size-2-medium-/260678482962?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb1a5fc12
Also on the subject of the PMG, it is very much like the CP mask, only difference is the side loading filter and the CP mask has two filters on the front and no exhalation valve (so it wouldn't actually work).
So if you wanted a civil protection mask ever get the PMG or the SCHMS mask.
