Gears 3 Won't Leave You Hanging, But it Won't Tell the Whole Story

Wait they're not blowing up the world? I figured that was the only natural step up from the other two games.

They better be serious about not leaving a half assed cliff hanger. I want to know what the hell is going on after that weird as lab part in 2.

well. gotta keep the cash cows a goin' y'know?

i wish SOMEONE would just complete a videogame story for once with absolutely NOTHING left to tell.
That makes no sense and would please absolutely NO ONE who likes the universe.

OT: Good enough.
eh? i didn't mean gears of war. but standalone or independent IPs definitely
Well, I kinda know, that was more of a response to the "cash cow" comment that is not particularly called for in this situation.
well, its a console exclusive that's mega-hyped and given lots of expansions and toys and everything, it kind of DOES fit the definition as a cash cow, like Halo or anything Nintendo makes.

doesnt mean its a BAD cash cow. ;)

Real endings arent supposed to be fan pleasers. Its just against thier nature.
Elaborate.

'Cause I don't see how that makes any sense.
Ok, I like a challenge.

Obviously alot of people wouldnt like it if you were to release the absolute final game in a popular series universe in order to move onto something else. Even if the supposed ending was an absolute fan pleaser, which is unlikely, fans bieng what they are, a fairly large portion of them will still ***** about the fact that one of thier favorite series is now finished.

Well, that's pretty much why I said that would be a terrible idea.

I think we (as in Gears fans) all think a prequel about Emergence Day would be pretty cool. They could go back even further than that and do some of the humans VS humans wars too.

That's good and all but what I really want to know is...
What about Clay Carmine?
You have to buy the game to find out. They aren't going to spoil the surprise!

Im not saying this to defend Gears of War, but nowadays this kind of games (AAA trilogies like Halo, Mass Effect, etc) have a lot, and I mean a lot of content in their universe so while they finish one story by the end of it they have 5 other stories that would be cool to explore. Like what happened with Halo Reach. Gears has the Pendolum Wars.

I dont mind the same universe but I do mind if it is the same exact style of gameplay.

Then it seems we were just communicating the same point in two different languages. Strange occurence, must not let happen again.

Why would they let it die, might as well drive another successful game series into the ground. I think we could all learn from God of War on this one.

I wouldn't mind seeing Aspho Fields or any of the other flashback stuff from Karen Traviss' work show up in a game, on the other hand. Perhaps an explanation of exact events of E. Day as well.

The massively disappointing thing is this, it would then be like Halo: Reach. You told a story that everyone who gave a damn about the Halo Universe already knew. It was fun, but it lacked the impact it could have had were there not plenty of source material on it.

Wait... Gears of War has a story?

Oh yeah, now I remember. It was the worst aspect of the whole game.

I can already imagine the people shouting "Halo: Reach ripoff!"
Oh, Gears is already borrowing HEAVILY from Halo in my opinion. Enemies that you fought in the first game turn out to have their own civil war going on in the second game, a life form that infects other creatures, causing them to turn into killing machines that don't feel pain as much, and let's not forget that the Sires LOOK like Flood.
I swear, if we end up teaming up with the Locust in the third game, I'm going to bang my head against a wall.
I dont believe that we will team up with a Locust, they were never presented to us as friends, not even one Locust acted friendly, or pondered acting friendly. They are portraied as a very violent race so I really dont think that they will ever team up

Wait, what? Gears has a story?

EDIT: And then I noticed I wasn't the only one who posted this.

I agree with that statement 50% of the time. The first Gears had only enough story to justify cutting people in half. Gears 2, on the other hand, had somewhat cheesy scripting, but I enjoyed the Dom/Maria side story.

Tie up the whole story? Gears doesn't have a story! It's one big clichéd mess with more plot holes than cheese grater in an episode of Lost.

This time, I'm not going to google "Gears 3 gameplay videos" because I did that for Gears 2 and it spoiled the ending before I even got the game.

OT: I want to know, where the Lambent come from, how the locust queen knows Marcus and his father, how Adam Fenix is still alive, and who the main Lambent boss locust is going to be...like how General RAAM and Skorge where for the first two games. We know the locust queen is the main Locust boss but what about the Lambent?

I am not going for Gears 3, the second one was utter twaddle. I cant face playing anyore games in brown and gun-metal grey. I might give Brink a try as it seems to have some colour.

All I remember from Gears two is crappy vehicle sections and a rubbish end boss

I never played the first one.

The second one was fun and well-designed, albeit with a severe case of the browns.

I just wish they didn't feel the need to ram a poorly-written story down my throat. I don't really need any excuse or context to chainsaw aliens in half.

EDIT: Actually, since you clearly have played the first one I'm going to take this opportunity to ask a question:
Is it ever explained in the first GoW why Marcus and the gang are all so physically huge? Are they supposed to be genetically or cybernetically boosted or something? Or did they grow up in a high gravity atmosphere? Or... did they just eat a lot of meat and naturally grow into space-ogres?
