Wait, what? Gears has a story?
This is how I felt when I first played Gears... Then I played it again and realized that I wasn't really paying attention. For one thing... I totally missed the fact that it doesn't take place on Earth.. Derr...

Conclusion: I didn't care much for the story... what little I found. Fun game though.. 2nd was better.
I loved the game, that's a given, love it to bits. Just don't think it's the epitome of story telling either, in fact, just thinking about it having a story is quite funny.

Okami? wait... okami-den... ummmmm. Limbo? oh god, I have NEVER, to my memory, played a game that hasn't had a fucking sequel. that is an issue.
Wow. Killer 7, Borderlands, Bayonetta, Ikaruga, Eternal Darkness, Space Channel Five, Flying Warriors, and God Hand, off the top of my head.

On topic, it would seem like a few posters have not even played the games, as there's a lot of back story and other stuff hidden in text throughout the games that help flesh out things. I look forward to the end, but would also enjoy some spin offs or prequels.

Oh good, because I definitely care about the fate of Planet Meathead and all its gratuitous chainsaw violence.

Wait does this mean that the Locust won't go down with them aswell??

Cos that would suck! I'm hoping for an ending where we don't just rush to activate a bomb that kills everything like in Gears 1 and to a lesser extent Bulletstorm.

I want a series of fast paced combat killing LOADS of enemies with nothing breaking up the carnage while trying escape the impending doom of the ground falling beneath you leading to an escape vehicle where you drive a more awesome version of that monster-truck tank from Gears 2 right into a giant enemy that you shoot right in the face with the turret...

... Then after you crash... Get out... And stagger around you find yourself in front of the locust queen... The real "butt ugly" one.

---

Also a prequel featuring the Pendulum Wars would be kick ass... COGs fighting COGs for immulsion... And we'd get to find out how Marcus became a traitor in Colonel Hoffman.

Questions I want answered:

What's on the disk Baird is trying to crack?
Where did the Locust come from?
Where did the Lambent come from?
What is Prescott hiding?
Why is Andrew still alive?
What information did Andrew have that caused Marcus to bail?
Why does the Locust Queen know Marcus and his father?
What were the Sires meant for?

Answer all those questions, and I'll be happy with the ending. I have my own theories--such as humans created the Locust or caused the Lambent infection--but I want to see if I'm right on any of them. Also, I'd like Dom to find out that his children are still alive somewhere, though I doubt we'll get to see that.
Forgot one!

What will happen to the final Carmine?

Thats my biggest question. Right after numbers 7 and 3.

Is it ever explained in the first GoW why Marcus and the gang are all so physically huge? Are they supposed to be genetically or cybernetically boosted or something? Or did they grow up in a high gravity atmosphere? Or... did they just eat a lot of meat and naturally grow into space-ogres?
I always assumed it was from the extreme high gravity of the planet. It's mentioned nowhere in the game (but really, how often do you go around mentioning the gravity on Earth?), but it would explain-

1> their stocky body shape and ridiculous muscles
2> their total inability to jump
3> their reluctance to drop down off six-foot ledges
4> the need for stupidly over-powered vehicles
5> the difficulty in getting up from hands and knees
6> the need for a sling-chain on grenades to get distance
7> the exaggerated fall of Torque-Bow shots

Things it doesn't explain
- chunky armoured helicopters
- propulsion system of Reavers
- massive open cave systems
- huge tall buildings
- chest-high walls
- relatively skinny women with perky breasts (I'm thinking Anya here - maybe she's an off-worlder with a strong bra)

Trust me, I've thought about this way to much for a game where you chainsaw aliens in half...

EDIT: Actually, since you clearly have played the first one I'm going to take this opportunity to ask a question:

I always thought since the game took place on another planet the humans were another type of human. Sort of like how there were sub-species of humans thousands of years ago and one in particular was a muscular juggernaut. Although that doesn't explain why some people still look normal. I don't know. Maybe they kept a lesser form of whatever they took in that New Hope experiment.

Life dont work like that. As long as time is constant, there will always be more to tell. An end is never the end of it all, just the end of one thing. When I die, people will still live and have stories to tell. Just because one person's story is done, does not mean everyones is. Its impossible to imagine after the big baddies are done that there is peace forever and ever and ever. New threats occure, new epic events happen...sequals happen. While I dont particularly love the Gears universe, there are plenty of ones I do (Marvel, The Elder Scrolls, DnD...) and they all can go on forever as long as there is life and time.

And Sera was cleansed of all the Locust filth... except one damn egg that Dom kept as a pet because he was lonely and kept riding the Waaambulance in Gears 2. Thanks Dom. Thanks.

Really though, "the whole story?" Um, did they just get to the third installment and realize they have some stuff to explain and connect to make sense of what is otherwise an excuse to chainsaw humanoid mole people?

Whatever, as long as this one manages to be about the ground combat, NOT asinine boss battles or vehicle rail shooting segments of frustration.

So they aren't finishing with my "They beat the big bad guy, but the human race is still doomed" theory? Well, shoot...Now I have to play this game.

£10 says that at the end, Marcus Fenix will either take off his bandana and we see his hair or he gets out of his suit and see what he looks like underneath.

Hell, I think a Gears prequel about Emergence Day could actually pretty cool, now that I'm giving it some thought.
I can already imagine the people shouting "Halo: Reach ripoff!"
Oh, Gears is already borrowing HEAVILY from Halo in my opinion. Enemies that you fought in the first game turn out to have their own civil war going on in the second game, a life form that infects other creatures, causing them to turn into killing machines that don't feel pain as much, and let's not forget that the Sires LOOK like Flood.
I swear, if we end up teaming up with the Locust in the third game, I'm going to bang my head against a wall.
Indeed I will be VERY pissed off if they do team up. But i'm keeping my hopes up.

Now whats always been a wonder to me is why the hell Dom doesn't care about his kids as much as he does his wife. His wife is now dead and he's just like "OMG LETS KEEL LOCUSTS!!!!11!" Where the hell are his kids and why doesn't he care?

His children supposedly died with his grandparents and the rest of his family on E-Day. It's what Maria is talking about in the flashback when she says, "The kids are at my mother's." Maria was the only family he had left.
However, I can't bring myself to believe that Epic would be THAT cruel to this man. To lose his whole family, then be forced to kill his own wife. That's beyond cruel. Since he never actually confirmed that his kids were dead and just went with hear-say, I'm hoping one of them will pop up.
