It ain't slapstick, but sometimes it's just downright funny.

Although I actually found that taking the original Gears in a serious light is a rather satisfying experience, especially the PC exclusive content. Remember picking up the COG tags? They'd play that sad little tune and I'd feel all sad inside knowing what happened. The art style of ruined city architecture also lends itself to that, I find.

But yes, taking the sequel seriously is just downright absurd. I think that's what Adam Fenix is asking at the end if you did.

I remember when Gears 1 was first released, i was playing and my friend was sitting next to me watching. Then i said "lets see this chainsaw that everyone is taking about" and when i used it, we both fell out of our chairs we were laughing so hard

Well, I thought it took refuge in crossing the line from gratuitous to impossible, making humor as a byproduct of insane bloodshed.

Slapstick? Come on, all you have to do is look at Marcus Phoenix' neck in proportion to his body to see that this is a game that isn't taking itself too seriously. :p
