Gender confusion...

I deliberately play a game of gender ambiguity on forums, largely because of past experiences where I have recieved "interesting" private messages during the days when I was a bit more specific. I'd rather not dig into that anymore than that, but it should probably be obvious what sorts of things I am talking about. In any case, most people tend to assume that I am female because of how I type and because of my consistent use of female avatars. I honestly do not care what people see me as, because that is not important to me.

I do this because I want people not to focus on gender when they see my posts or messages, but instead to focus upon what I am actually saying. I prefer when people stay interested in my crazy personality than on thoughts of real world possibilities, you know? :)

I almost once thought you were female, just by the avatar. I look at your profile though, and now your username is in my head as male.

OT: Has never happened to me.

People typically judge people based on what they can see visually, hence why many would assume you are a female because of your avatar. My avatar is ambiguous though. I'm guessing most people know what my gender is though, even if I have never actually stated what it is (at least that I can recall).

Probably because this site has many Americans on it...

No one can tell my gender from my avatar, as the Crest of Hyrule is an inanimate object and therefore genderless.

However, my Profile tells my first name and gender (I only tell my last name to a very select group of people on here. You know who you are)

I try to not refer to people by gender on any forum, unless they specifically state it and I'm quoting them or something. I'd rather not deal with the whole mess. I'm unsure if I've been mistaken for a female online... real life, however, I've been called "Ma'am" a few times >.>"

People make assumptions about your gender based on your avatar and username. Hell, until a couple of days ago I thought Aby_Z was a girl, which he apparently gets all the time. I've never had a problem since my stereotypically male name is in my username.
Wait, sh- He isnt a girl!?

..Well.

Anyways, I tend to have a girl avatar most of the time. Though I do wonder, do I really put myself off as either gender, on these forums? (Not,including profile-checking me, that is)

Happens pretty often since people usually automatically assume you're a guy unless your avatar or username is really feminine.

It doesn't really bother me until it we actually become "friends" and they're in shock that I didn't "tell" them.

I don't get it on the forums, I get it in real life. Every single freaking drive through I go to, they call me Ma'am when I'm done. It's so incredibly irritating. When I worked at KFC, everyone that I helped in the drivethru also called me ma'am. My manager would wait for them to be done ordering, and would then turn on her headset and laugh. She was awesome :D. But yeah, I can lower my voice or change it, and I ALWAYS get called Ma'am, unless they know me. I guess it's a good singing voice though.

Oddly enough, I forgot whether you were a guy or a girl today, but then I remembered you were the boy who was just a head
it's the avatar.

So far, a couple of folks on this forum have mistaken me for a guy. XD I am, in fact, a woman, as the feminine username and chibi-Supergirl avatar might indicate. I find it kind of funny. But I don't mind too terribly much, really. I politely correct and move on to the next topic.

I don't really have any problems with gender confusion with my avatar because what could be more manly than a bear riding a shark with a machine gun?!

Other than your avatar, you should maybe say the occasional stereotypical male post like:

"Boobz am teh coolest"

or "I was born with male genitalia so as not to be confused for a lady"

I always get mistaken for a guy on these here forums and given how often I've changed my avatar these past few weeks I doubt it's because of that. However, given the high number of guys around here and a the lower percentage of girls, I assume that it's because most everyone they converse with is in fact male.

I try not to use any gender specific wording about another user unless I know their gender just in case.

All the time in real life (odd, as I have a very masculine face), and I can do a convincing woman if I try. Do I ever try? No, because that would just be weird.

On Forums i always just assume male until proven otherwise. I don't really care about gender enough to put out effort to actually figure out someones gender. If its an issue with someone I called them a Male and there Female i will apologize. The day that happens I will.

I rarely ever mention genders anyway. Otherwise occasionally saying Man or Dude i don't really find a reason to bring up gender.

It might be because you're original post in your "yeah thats my ass. ect." thread, doesn't actually say your gender and its seems like a situation more likely to be experianced by a female then a male. Combine that with the avatar, and i can see why a lot of people thought it was a woman posting.
