I'm more of the type that is neutral, leaning towards male, if I don't know gender. I say "leaning towards male" mainly out of demographics, and that really depends on the site I'm visiting. If I were looking at someone on LiveJournal, I'd say "female, until proven otherwise" but CollegeHumor would have me thinking "male, until proven otherwise." Most forums have a good mixture, though.

I avoid gender-specific wording, when possible, if I don't know gender. However, if it's unavoidable, I use the masculine wording, because the English language has no gender-neutral pronouns, and defaults to masculine. So, when I use it, it's only out of being grammatically correct and not misogynistic, and if I knew a person was female, I would correct it.

As far as me personally, I've never been mistaken for being female. I guess I'm just that manly. :-D

Avatar does it. Don't worry though- when I see a female avatar, I ASSUME it's a male. Much easier this way.

I just assume everyone's a guy until they say otherwise. But I don't refer to other users with gender pronouns, or at least I've never meant to.

I also assume everyone on this site is from England unless they say they are from somewhere else. Although I don't usually refer to people's nationality either.

I've always thought my voice was girly sounding.

I have been once or twice, it's kinda funny, when I am though. I don't mind it at all to be honest, it's not their fault and nor is it mine, it's just forum anonymity.

Reason why I chose Darth Vader as my avatar. Who else is manlier then him?
Chuck Norris.
But yeah, people tend to assume I'm a guy, because of the kitteh =D He looks so posh and gentlemanly! But meh, doesn't really change anything!

No wonder - Pinsir is THE MANLIEST.

If I don't know otherwise, I do tend to assume gender from avatar pictures. But if I want to address or refer to the person, I'll always check first.

OT: Hasn't happened to me ? I think the default for many people is, if there are no clues, to assume male (which I am). My avatar is ambiguous, but nobody has ever mistaken me for a female. Although my cat in the picture is also male.

People always assume I'm a guy. Even those gender tests I took online think I'm a dude. Shit, I got the 3ed highest score on Spark.com's Bastard Test. It doesn't bother me anymore & I don't feel a need to correct them.

Go ahead...just take a guess at what I am.

I think this thread has been answered more then a few times...what else is there to talk about now though? Its your avatar...

Would people consider my avatar to be more manly or girly? Hmmm...Thats what this topic is about now. You decide.

I assume all all posters are male unless they specify otherwise, even then you know most of them are guys who get off on pretending to be girls....

Not on forums, not yet anyways, but on WoW I've been referred to as a girl before. Multiple times. Doesn't help that my name's Dylan. Not sure if it's my personality or the fact that I'll talk as an artist every now and then or that I choose female characters all the time, but people tend to think of me as female until I state otherwise or I'm seen. It's odd, because I'm rather big and apparently intimidating in reality.

I was playing with one guy who refused to believe I was a guy once. It was quite entertaining, he helped me get a whole shitload of quests done without taking the experience or loot simply because he wanted to be flirtatious. And I did tell him I was a guy.

Even though I figured out you were a girl from reading posts due to what you say and your avatar I always picture Gambit sitting in a dark room at a computer glaring at it and typing furiously. Stupid overactive imagination.

Yeah, it's your avatar. I'll admit that I once looked at your profile because I wasn't sure. People really do make assumptions based on what your avatar is.

Some people have assumed I'm a guy because of mine.

It's alright on forums for the most part, but a lot of the time when I'm talking to someone online and I say something which makes it obvious that I'm female, people will be really surprised. I myself can rarely tell if someone's male or female online, so it's fortunate that we get to check profiles. Avatars are so misleading as well...

I know exactly what you mean. I'm constantly being mistaken for a moon.

I've had the gender confusion once in WoW when I played a female character. This dude started following me around and giving me stuff all the time, and complimenting me for being really good (with the unsaid undertone of "for a girl")
He was constantly trying to impress me by coming to my aid for quests and stuff, so I just rolled with it until I stopped playing the character.

A friend of mine had that situation in Final Fantasy XI with a female character, only it escalated to the guy asking if he wanted their characters to get married in game.
From what I understand that went:
"Uh, I'm actually a guy."
"What?"
"Yeah..."
"Why the fuck are you playing as a girl you fag!!!"
"Why are you asking a stranger to marry your character?"
"..."
*disconnect*

Pandas are masculine in my mind. I'm not sure why, though. Because they're lazy and eat heaps of food? That's the best I got.

In any case, the 'Mr' part of your username indicates to me that you're a guy. Which I could be wrong about. But whatever.

OT: I suppose I have a fairly gender-ambiguous username. And avatar, at the moment. So people might not be totally sure whether I'm a guy or a girl. Occasionally I'll mention men, being attracted to them, but not having dated one yet (I'm quite whiny), so perhaps people will assume I'm a girl.

Yours looks more like a guys avatar...but the apple part would make me think of a girl, if it weren't for the late night part.

Pandas are as manly as it gets.
