Seriously, why is square so obsesses with the saga franchise?! They're putting out like 2 remake/remaster a year while ignoring the rest of their non FF/DQ work. As far as I can tell, none of them sells well nor have much of a reputation to carry them (frontier 1 is the closest to being popular and that's not saying much). I guess the Japanese market must love these like crazy, cause I barely ever hear anyone talk about them in the west.
Just bizarre that Square will dumb deus Ex/tomb raider when they sell millions of copy but will just keep plowing on with the saga franchise. I dunno, maybe there's like 2 intern working on min wage doing them somewhere out of sight.
Anyway, for people who never played any of these, don't bother.

I'm pretty sure SaGa is quite low budget, so it probably doesn't take all that much to recoup costs. It is also Akitoshi Kawazu's baby, who is one of the senior directors at Square. So I'm thinking that maybe the big wigs at Square decided that keeping one of their key creatives happy outweighs the expenditures. Kawazu's seniority and the way Japanese corporate hierarchy works might also mean he simply has the clout to push his passion projects through.OOoooo Saga frontier 2 remaster!...

I have no doubt that they're done on shoestring budget, but that could still be used on other stuff. Like, look at how well the resident evil remake are doing, a parasite eve remaster would probably do much better than saga stuff. Just put the saga stuff on pause for a year or two and do that. Or xenogear, the thing is half finish and still get discussed to these days. What about terranigma? Its a wonderful game that never got a proper western release. Same for bahamut lagoon. To say nothing of a proper deus ex remake. Heck, next they're probably going to do unlimited saga, one of the worse game ever.
I guess maybe its someone high up pet project, but if they keep pushing for these, its a pretty good sign that they maybe shouldn't that high up and its time to go "the future is now old man" on them.

I'm looking forward to playing the DQ 1-2 remaster.
Saw a couple of post about it recently and now that its on the steam front page I checked it out.
It seems like its more of a "influencer simulator" of sort, seems very creepy tbh... maybe its because the graphic are getting good enough for these game that it feel almost like voyeurism.

From what I can tell in the trailer they don't have the namesake mechanic present in the pinball game. That's a pity. I imagined that as "if you hit this lit portal it would come out of this other lit portal" simulated by the ball being swallowed by the machine in one end and a new ball being dropped on the other, but I suppose the momentum would not be able to be kept that way... unless they implemented some sort of accelerometer at the moment of impact and used that data on the other end. But I suspect that would make it even more expensive.

They're making an offline version, so I wouldn't exactly call the franchise dead.
Last I checked, they still use the Senran characters for crossovers, and plenty of fans (male and female) still enjoy the franchise. Not my thing, but I don't mind the franchise at all.
