So its been around 2 years since the legend died. I am still of the mind that he was, is, and always will be the greatest comedian of all time.
but what did you think of him?

Personally I thought he was a bit of an opinionated dick, but that's just me. Most of his routines came across as mindless rantings about things he was clearly ignorant about (religion, politics, environmentalism, etc etc etc).

He was and always will be "The Great Thinker" to me. His comedy was just pure gold wrapped in awesome, in fact I know feel the urge to listen to him again.

George Carlin was one of the greatest comidians who ever lived, he wasen't afriad to to speak his opinion and show us how stupid things are, and at the same time make it funny.

Truely, he was one of the best.

I think he's the only celebrity that I was truely upset about kicking the bucket. I'm very glad I managed to see him live in Vegas at least once. Sure he was a bit ranty but he was also hilarious and made you think.

He truly was one of the best comidians that ever lived. The world is just not as funny without him.

Well, once again, you seem to prove that you are either a twin or a clone of me.
I feel the same way about the man. His rants, though often misinformed or just plain ignorant, are still fucking hilarious.
And I love the prison state idea.

My first exposure to George Carlin was as Mr Conductor. I was realy blown out of the water (in a good way) when I experienced his comidy act later in life. He was a man of many tallents, I salute him.

would love you to send me a link to any vid where George Carlin was 'ignorant' about any of the three topics you mentioned, because I've watched a lot of comedians and I would say he's the least ignorant I've ever encountered, stubborn yes, but ignorant, no way.

Look at the post which is three posts above yours. Or the video which was posted yesterday [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/18.191055.5973875].

I know he was amazingly opinionated, but it would be nice if he actually had some kind of rational justification for his edicts. The liberal equivalent of Sean Hannity (making shit up to smear people who think differently) was the last thing those of us trying to get liberalism and socialism taken seriously needed.

Having seen those vids I can see why you would think him to be opinionated, which he is (to be fair he's a stand up comic, he's got to talk none stop for the next two hours so I'd prefer to hear his opinions on things rather than knock knock jokes), but ignorant? In his career he managed to analyse and dissect every facet of human culture (I'm exaggerating , don't pick me up on that :)), said things other comedians wouldn't dare say, and not just for the shock value (like Bill Hicks). For example all of his material regarding religion, you may consider it ignorant of him to simply throw aside thousands of years of belief, but with their being absolutely no evidence that religion is as feasibly reaslistic as santa clause, there is nothing for him to be ignorant about. Also I do agree with you that his claims that green house gases have no effect on pollution are total bullshit, I don't believe they have the effect we are told they have, we had ice ages a long time before we had cars and factories, its just natural that this will occur again regardless of pollution being involoved.
