Eh, didn't really laugh at any of his his material, but I can see why other people did.
His rants where entertaining, though.

I think I'm just your lost brother, not sureNeonbob said:Well, once again, you seem to prove that you are either a twin or a clone of me.
Yeah, I'm with you there.Danman1 said:He's no Bill Hicks, But I love his stuff.
Nothing in the religion video was "ignorant." I'm not suprised you can't cite anything specific. Religion tells people there's an invisible man in the sky who grants wishes, despite not having a shred of evidence, and people believe it. That is definitely worth making fun of, sorry to break it to you, but the fairy tales your parents spoonfed to you as a child aren't real.cuddly_tomato said:Look at the post which is three posts above yours. Or the video which was posted yesterday [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/18.191055.5973875].Morty815 said:would love you to send me a link to any vid where George Carlin was 'ignorant' about any of the three topics you mentioned, because I've watched a lot of comedians and I would say he's the least ignorant I've ever encountered, stubborn yes, but ignorant, no waycuddly_tomato said:Personally I thought he was a bit of an opinionated dick, but that's just me. Most of his routines came across as mindless rantings about things he was clearly ignorant about (religion, politics, environmentalism, etc etc etc).
I know he was amazingly opinionated, but it would be nice if he actually had some kind of rational justification for his edicts. The liberal equivalent of Sean Hannity (making shit up to smear people who think differently) was the last thing those of us trying to get liberalism and socialism taken seriously needed.
That's got to be it. I was thinking you were somehow my twin with messed around birth records.Sleekgiant said:I think I'm just your lost brother, not sureNeonbob said:Well, once again, you seem to prove that you are either a twin or a clone of me.
Being insanely funny requires being a bit of a dick.Eggsnham said:He was a bit of a dick, but he was insanely funny.
Great comedian, not as good as Lenny Bruce when it comes to fighting for the 1st Amendment.ThePostalDude said:So its been around 2 years since the legend died. I am still of the mind that he was, is, and always will be the greatest comedian of all time.
but what did you think of him?
You only think he was ignorant on the topic because his comedic exaggerations don't follow your beliefs on the the subjects, same as you do with everyone else. I'm going to go with him being just a hair more informed about American politics than you since he was subpoenaed several times by Congress and forced to testify before them (on the topics of obscene speech and censorship.)cuddly_tomato said:Personally I thought he was a bit of an opinionated dick, but that's just me. Naah not at all.Spitfire175 said:Being insanely funny requires being a bit of a dick.Eggsnham said:He was a bit of a dick, but he was insanely funny.
A really funny guy. Over the top, sure, but got me laughing.
Ah, Bob, we agree again. Truly this is a fortuitous acquaintanceship!Neonbob said:Well, once again, you seem to prove that you are either a twin or a clone of me.Sleekgiant said:He was and always will be "The Great Thinker" to me. His comedy was just pure gold wrapped in awesome, in fact I know feel the urge to listen to him again.
I feel the same way about the man. His rants, though often misinformed or just plain ignorant, are still fucking hilarious.
And I love the prison state idea.
