Too many of this topic.
O.T. There have always been plenty of girls playing games. You're just oblivious to it because you never looked for any.
Its not that I'm oblivious (okay maybe just a little) and I'm not denying that girl gamers are in abundance, I am simply stating that in certain cases girls get treated differently than guys. I'm not saying that this is boys aren't treated differently too, it just seems to be more obvious with girls. Regardless, there is always going to be someone somewhere who thinks lowly of another person because of their gender, race, age, etc.

*Sighs* Is this really such a big deal? Honestly? Tits or no tits, if you can hold a controller, whether you play Animal Crossing or COD, you are a gamer. Girl gamer is such a pathetic name too. We don't say 'Guy gamers' or 'White gamers' or 'Asian gamers'. It's the same kinda thing. It just kinda creates useless labels.

But my feelings towards it? Great. Yay. Way to go. What about those guy gamers though?! Seriously! They're so mysterious! Did you hear they're playing Cooking Mama now? Maybe they should stick to hardcore games!
I can see where your going with this. Again it's all about stereotypes and how much they suck. The topic itself is really no big deal, but when things like "tetris is for moms" are said it gets me thinking about why that person would say some thing like that when it can be enjoyed by everyone. My curiosity of human behavior gets the best of me some times and leads me to ask simple questions (like the ones in the topic) and then the harder ones like "why?" and expect these well developed answers and reasons behind the thought....but I digress.

I don't think Zelda is family friendly personally.

Erm... I really doubt Boys give a crap that Girls are playing these games, or even notice.

I was playing CoD for a few hours today, I had my mic on and was chatting away, no one batted an eyelid that I was a Girl, it really doesn't matter anymore. All they cared about was me and others being able to work as a team etc. (sabotage)

The only people it matters to are 13yo Boys who're going through puberty "OMGZZ A GURL!!!!11"
OR
Girls who have to spout off "Hey look at me, Boys, I've got tits and play gamezz!"

Summery - No one (should) give a fuck anymore.

Nah, no harm done. I suppose I just get bothered to hell when people take such a big notice of this bollocks. If we ignore all these labels then maybe we can advance and these kinds of threads will move on (Again, no harm done on your part, I see your thinking now). But yes, I guess it's just one of those things, Girls play Animal Crossing, Blokes play CoD, Dads play Space Invaders and Mums play Little Big Planet or Peggle. I can't wait for the day when these stereotypes are gone.

I reckon that if we must use these stupid labels, let's just stick to hardcore/casual/FPS/RPG/etc. Surely that's better insight and an easier way for people to connect.

I don't think girls should stop playing games, I even think they would improve them if they did. They bring a new environment to games and couls probably help us develop better games.
I even think that most of the girls would beat men at their favorite games.

I know, right? It all went downhill after us guys thought it was ok to cry at touching moments in media. And yes, the term "girl gamer" makes me facepalm.
OP:...really? This, AGAIN? Look, girls can play whatever the hell they want and any number of them may or may not be better than you.

Girls and Games. Oh, I do very much like both.

It's los simples.
And the female version of Morgan Freeman ?

Boys will only irritate you for being a female playing COD either when you're losing on their team or you're beating them. It's just what they do to take out their irrational anger. You can keep playing whatever hardcore games you want.

...but more "hard core" games (like C.o.D, Gears of War, etc)..
I'll admit I lol'd at that part.

Anyway, yes there are girls who play 'hard core' games, albeit few and far between. But that's all there is to it. Let's grow up guys.

I wish more girls I knew played games. Could have something to talk with them about and not get those "Oh, wow. What a loser/dork/nerd" looks when they overhear me talking to one of my friends about a game. That said, I wish more girls were actually GAMERS, not people who play games. I have only met one girl in my entire life that I would call a Gamer. The rest are simply girls who play games--many of them just so they can appeal to the hot jock who happens to play Call of Duty.

If you have so much free time to spend on this forum then why don't use use it to do something productive? Like make me a sandwich. It isn't going to make itself.

Personally I'm dreading the day Diablo III is released. That's when wifey takes over my gaming rig, for her all nighter Diablo sessions, and won't let me come near the keyboard, for fear of loosing a hand in the process.

Some say she is rather... passionate about her Diablo gaming hobby.

I remember getting my ass kicked by a team of pro gamers in an exhibition match in CS. Turns out they were an all girl pro games. Never seen so much rage coming from one team when they'd go who matches without a single death. So yeah, girls, guys, all play games with the same starter level, it just depends on the person.

I thought this was about girl characters being more prominent in games.
Which is a far more interesting topic. Because personally I find it really annoying when there's a token girl (typically a 'badass', or more accurately just a dude with tits) among a cast/team of all-male characters. Women are severely underrepresented in games.

Thats actually a really good point. Realisitically all us girls have as representatives of our gender in video games are characters like Lara Croft or Madison from Heavy Rain, the action girl badass who's wit and ability make her stand out. Its a good point to say girls don't have a viable representative in the video gaming world.

I recently wrote this another thread about the reaction to girls playing games and as i've been playing video games since i was 4 i'd class myself as a hardcore gamer. I never really understood the appeal of "family friendly" games and the idea that girls are more drawn to them. I have a PS3 and just prefer to play serious games.

What i do get annoyed about is hearing the crap that some other girls come up with. the whole trash talking guys with the whole "getting beat by a girl" speech is tiring to listen to. I was playing with some clan mates a few days ago in a game and it turned out that there was another girl already in the game. one of my clan mates (a guy) got sniped by this other girl and she began to throw all these cliche feminist comments at him, despite the fact he was quite cordial about the whole thing an congratulated her, she wouldn't stop. he let slip that i was a girl and she started harrassing me about it.

this kind of "girl power" attitude is serious annoying to a lot of girl gamers. all i want to do is play the game and enjoy it, not make a big damn song and dance about it.

Girls can do and play whatever they want. I don't see their presence in the gaming world as an intrusion. I guess some guys want gaming to stay a boys club but I welcome the estrogen. There are few things that the presence of girls do not improve.

I don't want them to live up to the stereotype of casual games, or family friendly. But I do not consider Zelda and certain Mario games very casual

But, a female gamer who only plays super popular competitive games that you mention as hardcore, is not the type I'd like. Because those games are most prominently played a by dicks too.

How about a girl who has the ability to NOT just follow a crowd? That'd be nice.
