having a gun, no wait a loaded gu.. an unsecured loaded gun lying aroudn within reach of children... need i say more?

Strictly no, but i can so here goes. Why the fuck are video-games to blame? sure the wii gun in quesiton looks like a real gun, especially to a small child, but i dare you all to think back to your childhood (and some of us to no more than earlier today) haven't most of us, if not all ever held toy guns before? even though ti was before the wii era, haven't we run around with plastic guns that said click and played cops and robebrs, or cowboys and indians or something?
I had quite an arsenal of toy weapons when i was younger, and i still have a few airsoft guns now, and i would never allow something liek that to happen, ofc it would be hard seeing as firearms are illegal here in Denmark, but nevertheless, in teh US or otehr countries wher ethey're legal, it's just that much more important for parents to take care of their children, and teach them the difference between toys and weapons, even if they look alike, and most importantly of all, DON'T let fucking live fireamrs lie around, especially when theres kids.

I am right with ya on that one. My god...how is this being left unpunished? It should be a crime in itself to act like nothing like this ever happened!
Their daughter is dead, that's a pretty big punishment if you ask me.
yeah but what happens when they make another kid?

I still don't buy it.

I think that maybe, just maybe, this whole "Wii gun" thing is just a mask to hide what really happened. What if the parents purposely left the gun out, because they knew that the little girl would think it looked like the Wii toy? It could be like a Kaylee Anthony thing, where the parents just got sick of the kid.

I don't know...... Ever since I did my Freshman thesis on the JFK assassination conspiracy, I have been extremely paranoid about everything. So I am probably just over-thinking it.

[sub] No, this was not meant as some sick joke, I am just really paranoid about everything. [/sub]
Perhaps, but there was just as much of a chance (if not much, much more) of her shooting the tv or one of her family members.

The only fact that seems off to me is the fact that she shot herself with it. As a kid I never pretended to shoot myself with toy guns...

Ladies and Gentlemen. Here we have a perfect example of Darwinism in action.

We have here a case of two stupid people, obviously too dumb to be breeding yet did so anyway, and so life has correct their happy little accident with one of its own.

Thus balance is restored and the gene pool is a little cleaner for the rest of us.

While it is tragic for the child, it does bring truth to that age old adage.

"Give a man a gun, he will protect his homestead. Give a stupid man a gun, and he shall inadvertently kill his own child."

guys, i just had a great idea. you know that console where you point at stuff and it does stuff?
well....
how about if the controller was a replica of a real GUN. HOW COOL WOULD THAT LO-

this is where the dude should've been slapped in the face and sent packing. Terrible idea, gents.

Also, why wasnt the safety on?
A post about this article from another website, says that the real gun is a

Smith & Wesson SW9M Sigma 9mm Sub-Compact which does not feature an external safety mechanism.

this still is no excuse because you can buy other devices that make guns safe. but i thought that was interesting..

The thing is the child probably would have shot themselves anyways even if the family didn't have a wii. Once again we have another case of video games being in the wrong place at the wrong time. A real tragedy though for sure, I feel sorry for the kid being born to such crappy parents.

I saw the picture early today and I swear up and down the lower one was the real gun...
Yeah, the only reason I was able to tell with certainty was the proportions were wrong on the Beretta knockoff. It took me a second to process that the top one had to be the real one because it had one of those disabling straps the police use running through it.

I know semi-autos to a disturbing degree and it took me a second to process what I was looking at. (This is before I learned she was shot with a .380.)
I just can't get over how real it looks, it's a scary thought and I thought the US had laws where toy guns either has to have a odd color scheme (like the orange NES zapper) or a orange tip(like the remodeled megatron).
It varies. The 6mm air pistols I've got ship with an orange cap on the barell, but the 4.5mm ones I've bought don't. This is even more disturbing when you realize there's virtually no way to distinguish the 4.5s from live pistols at any range.

If the article didn't tell me which gun was real, I would've said it was the lower one.
I made that mistake too. The wire running through the top one definitely threw me off. That, and I know absolutely squat about firearms...

Worst thing for a parent to ever have to face.

No excuses for leaving it out on the table though. The child is expecting the parents to care for it. My guns and ammo are locked up in separate containers. You got time to pull them out, you've got time to clean them and put them away.

Its America's fault for giving the public easy access to firearms.
You're shitting me, right? Please tell me that you're joking here. That you don't REALLY think that some douche who teaches his his kid to play with guns and then leaves a loaded gun where said kid can get it is the victim of a society that should have seen this coming and made it harder to own a gun just to save this guy from his own stupidity.

This isn't a Wii controller problem, it's a parent problem. You don't leave firearms where children can get them.

Because the parents were quite obviously retarded. Let's review the facts:

1. Bought a realistic Wii-gun peripheral - Meh

2. Let a 3 year old play with said Wii gun peripheral - Only slightly stupid.

3. Wake up late at night, think you hear something, immediately reach for your semi-auto - Pretty damn stupid.

4. Leave said semi-auto locked, loaded, and within easy reach of a small child with the safety off - Best put your helmet back on there, sport.

I remember back in the day we had these water pistols that looked exactly like Uzis, right down to moving parts. They were made out of pressed plastic, but I bet I wouldn't be able to find anything like them in a store nowadays because they're illegal, and with good reason. It can be really difficult to tell plastic guns apart from real guns.

I don't think there's anything really wrong with this Wii gun. It's kind of cool, and I think that I would use one. Honestly, I don't think that the fact that it is realistic looking makes even the tiniest bit of difference, except to forgive the mother for not realizing the danger. The only thing that matters is the fact that the father is dangerously, stupidly inept in regards to gun ownership. Leaving the gun away from his sight for even a second, leaving it around loaded, having it at easy access to a child, or leaving the safety off are all stupid, unthinkable offenses in his situation. Any one of those things, and Child Services should have gotten involved. But all of them together, and to such a disturbing degree, and it reaches levels of stupidity that would be downright comical, if it didn't end in tragedy. Frankly, the only really accurate thing to say here is that the father killed his child, plain and simple. His stupidity murdered his daughter, and he deserves it being put absolutely no more kindly.
