I also wonder why Google has yet to say anything on SOPA... I mean YouTube will be absolutely devastated by this bill! They probably have the highest stake in this!

EDIT: Oh shit this will also destroy Paypal and... OMFG STEAM! NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Holy shit, could you imagine that? The entirety of Youtube taken down because of ONE video.

Ashton Kutcher, you have proved that you aren't worthless to society. I'll call off the hit.

It's too late to cover your ass now, Go Daddy. The Internet Hate Machine is active, and already knows where you really stand in the matter.

Though at least you're making a fine example of yourselves: how I wished other SOPA supporting companies were as susceptible to such mass-protest as them, but alas...most of the supporters don't rely exclusively on the Internet for their business.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the interwebs, please take note. If you want to do a boycott against any major company, corporation, or big business, take this article as an example. They need to be hit in the only place that matters...their bottom line.

"Fighting online piracy is of the utmost importance,"

As long as they think this, GoDaddy is on my never use list.

EDIT:

"GoDaddy lost 72,354 domains this week. It's not enough.

Despite a massive Twitter campaign and a blog post that claims ?Go Daddy no longer supports SOPA legislation? the company and their CEO have dodged questions about opposing the bill. In essence, they are taking a lesser role by not showing support for the bill. They have not opposed it.

This week, they lost around 72,000 domain registrations. At a yearly discounted rate of $6.99 (most registrations are higher), that?s over half a million dollars per year. It is apparently not enough for them to speak out against the bill.

How many domains is the company willing to lose before they oppose this abomination of legislation? Do they believe that when they ?step back and let others take leadership roles? that we are going to see it as something other than a ?duck and cover? public relations move to try to get out of the spotlight and hope someone else takes the brunt of the attacks while they quietly support the bill?

Is 72,354 domains enough? Not even close. It?s a drop in the bucket. The have anywhere from 15,000 to 40,000 domains added daily. Despite cries from the internet, yesterday was a good day with over 32,000 added. Go Daddy has not felt much pain yet. The ?PR nightmare? that many of us in the tech industry perceive is happening to them hasn?t hit their pocketbooks in any real form, yet.

Until the effect is more pronounced, they can afford to deflect questions and let the negative PR pass. More must be done."

So now they will piss off all the ppl who stayed and supported their support of SOPA. All the pissed off peeps moving domains aren't going to switch back just because they suddenly change their minds on a whim.

Bah, typical. If you're going to make an obviously contraversial claim, at least have the balls to face the consequences.

I'm pretty sure that they just said they were pro-SOPA just to get some free advertisment. Suits them well that it backfired like this.

Now that Go Daddy has proven themselves to be idiots (for supporting something that would screw over a sizable segment of their own customers) and hypocrites (for suddenly changing their tune at the first sign of opposition) someone has to find a way for me to boycott something I'd never have used in the first place.

I felt like opening an account at GoDaddy, just so that I could cancel it. Let the fuckers burn. Oh, and a merry christmas and good will towards all... =)
That'll teach em!

For those of you who don't know; this was mostly a Reddit born thing. It started with one man vowing to switch his ~1000 or so domains over to another registrar. The floodgates opened, and they should keep on pouring. GoDaddy needs to bleed to death, not just because they're a terrible company with terrible business practices, but as a message to other corporations who try to take our freedoms away from us.

The key to success here is focus. There are a lot of corporations that support SOPA and PIPA, but trying to go after all of them at once is foolish. This is the perfect start to something wonderful. I wonder who's next?

That was a pretty weakass apology on GoDaddys part...Oh well, you come to expect these things.

Next they'll be saying "We're sorry IF we offended anyone."

I thought it would be better to use an old SOPA thread rather than make a new one.
Here are all the companies supporting SOPA

You know what my favorite part about this story is?

Go Daddy didn't pay enough attention to notice that the boycott was supposed to happen on the Twenty-ninth, so they reported that it was a flop, thus provoking the internet into acting immediately.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is why you research before you run your mouth.

Well, if only the movie and music industry figures out that their drop in sales over the past few years is FUCKING CAUSED BY THEIR RETARDED BUSINESS PRACTICES AND NOT INTERNET PIRACY, then we might get somewhere.

This godaddy thing is small fish.
I mean, obviously it's somewhat a big deal to them, but it doesn't really mean much for the bottom line: lobbyists with the ear of stone-aged american politicians.

(on a serious note, even though I'm from the UK I'm glad, if this gets passed in the US how long before the UK goverment think it's agood idea!?!)
Problem for other countries is, sites like The Escapist can be shut down immediately for simply showing trailers, so us Brits would lose out as much as Merica would.
