I recently realized that at the age of 23 I'm a crochety old man who's tired of all the BS, it wasn't really any one moment but a friend saying I gripe like an old person really got me thinking about it. I just wonder what I'll be like in 40 years if I'm cursed to endure that long.
I tend to feel old when my arthritis acts up to where I walk like I'm 80, even though I'm nearly the same age as the OP.
Other than that, the feeling comes when:
I see girls who can't be older than 12 wearing prostitute clothes (in winter, no less)
Seeing how stupidly simple and cartoony toys with no electronics have become
Seeing that toys that light up, make noise, move on their own have gotten more complicated, but no more fun
When I can't help but wonder how a title could be related to the rest of the 'series' when the only thing it has in common is a couple of item names (looking at you, Final Fantasy)
I feel old because I have back pain
I've come to the point where I ask for dress shirts for Christmas instead of just getting them
I teach at a theatre company I used to be a part of
back in high school during my senior year my football coach had a daughter. a few weeks ago i had a full conversation with that girl and after she ran back to her mom it hit me, im an old guy now. im only 22
it doesnt help that my mom and sister feel they have to point out every single new grey hair i have whenever they see me
I was in the gym next to my old high school (10 years removed) and this girls is walking around in there with a shirt with no arms, barely any sides, and is torn up on the front and back. She is all but naked and clearly a high school student. I said to myself, "If and when I have kids, I would NEVER let my daughter walk out of the house in that."
When i look at my youngest brother watching live action tween stuff like Wizards, A.N.T Farm, Kickin' It, ect shows on disney....but then i smile when i see something on Phineas and Ferb with some semi-sly reference...like that electric keyboard sound from Safety Dance.
Either that, or the underepresentation of Anime here in the United Kingdom, before Jetix was shot down and became Disney XD, we had Bo^7 (Bobobo), Naruto, Viewtiful Joe (which never got a full rotation) and anything else ive forgot, they stuck both the latter animes into late night slots and placed Naruto firmly in the 7:00-8:00PM Zone where'd it have to compete with the drama juggernauts such as Eastenders and Emmerdale.
How far did we get to in Naruto?
That arc where Orochimaru needs Tsunade for some reason to heal his arms....or something strange, otherwise it started to repeat from the beginning
.
Shortly before Disney XD came, One Piece was moved from cartoon network to cartoon network two, they removed all the Anime besides Pokemon from the channel, even then, it was only the DP series, CN Two became CN Too and lost Pokemon to Disney once the Darkrai film aired on Disney XD.
And where does Naruto appear in all of this? Nowhere. No channels airs anime, besides some semi obscure ones like Kix, Pop and Pop Girl, it only has DVDs....want to play a videogame where the characters are far and wide? good luck knowing first hand about their backstories and such without watching via the internet or the menctioned DVDs. D:
There must've been like 5 or 6 Naruto games here, probably doesnt help that most of them prior to the series reaching here was either released in america/japan only, or was on consoles which probably died by then...that Ubisoft game only got upto..
Garaa becoming some sandbeast
I miss Dragon Ball Z...it was simple. (hated the pacing in the Namek Arc besides the super saiyan bit)
EDIT: looked at Wikipedia, looks like Naruto has had about 17-18 games released here in the EU/UK. (also counts ones that has dates but hasn't been released yet)
I'm still considered young by most of the population (I'm about to turn 26 if you were curious) but have been feeling old lately. I thought instead of complaining about kids being in my yard, I'd hop onto this new-fangled internet thing and see if others have their own old-feeling stories.
So a bit ago, I was playing tennis with a buddy of mine. We've played a set by now, so I'm warmed up and looking for a win as he just beat me. I go to pick up a tennis ball from the ground when I get a spike of pain in my back. I didn't seriously hurt my back, but I had to stop playing the game because I bent over and hurt myself...
So in tribute to my upcoming 26th birthday, does anyone else have a fun story about feeling old? Yes, you ancient 30 year old's can also participate as long as you don't complain about the music in here being too loud...
I called up a friend and said, "hey you seen that commercial for that-" he cut me off but spoke low so his girlfriend wouldn't catch him, "ya they got it down by the wallmart. I already tried it, it's awesome." I don't know what is more disappointing, that I called him about the Dr. Scholls foot machine or that without having said it he knew I was talking about it. Well at least I can say I didn't sneak around my girlfriend to use it first.
My ten-year old niece and twelve-year old nephew both have iPhones. Yeah, when I was their age I don't think I had even memorized the land-line number, nowadays my dad is about the only person I know who even has a land-line.
OT: Well, touching on the earlier paragraph, the fact that my niece and nephew don't understand references from films . . . well, that came out before 2000. Most recently noted by me was "The Karate Kid".
Fondly remembering the days of booting up games like "Star Wars: Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight", "Sonic the Hedgehog", "Banjo-Kazooie". . . and how excited I was when my dad finally let me play Final Fantasy VII for the first time, now remembering that game is just about fifteen years old.
Seeing my younger brother, who is fourteen years younger than me.
Being unable to throw away a combination DVD/VHS player that may not even work anymore because it's ridiculously difficult to even find VHS players anymore.
Whenever I note that both of my laptops are technologically superior to the last desktop computer I owned.
Being almost completely unable to find any of the television shows I watched as a child on television anymore.
For the incredibly stereotypical one, every time I remember that I'm going to turn twenty later this month makes me feel old.
i feel both of you, the way of how i feel old is how much kids are less discipline than how my sis and i were a few years ago, parents let them get away with almost anything, even trash talking.
I remember a feild trip to the internet. There was this big building that had it and we didn't get much time to use it.I think we got like 5 minutes to play with an online calculator. That calculator was magic.
I have legitimately told men only two or three years my junior (I'm 23) to pull their damn jeans up when they go about with them hanging off their arses.
In my defense they look like complete tools, it can't be comfortable and belts aren't that expensive.
