Why the stupid Transformer/Reaper dubstep beats? WHY!? Are those supposed to be what Godzilla's farts sound like?!
What dubstep beats? You mean the eerie high pitched stuff? That's from 2001: A Space Oddysey, one of the greatest, if not the greatest sci-fi's ever made.

OT: I'm torn, on the one hand I want this to a good movie, because I like it when movies are good, but on the other hand IF it is good, then I'll have to stop hating Gareth Edwards.

The thing that most caught me is that I'm sure that's the background music from 2001: A space Odyssey in there.

Anyway. I wasn't excited for this at first but i have to say.
When I heard that Godzilla roar.
I geeked out a bit.
I feel as if after the other CGI Godzilla film was upstaged by Cloverfield, the REAL godzilla just turned up and said
"Sit down Junior. Let me show how its ACTUALLY done."
Humanity is screwed and Bryan Cranston knows it.

I want to see this.

I may see this later. I'm not currently planning to see it in theaters. I'm just not particularly hopeful about it. And I think I'd rather watch the Toho films or Pacific Rim.

Yeah, that part did catch my attention, too. Mostly as the original Godzilla was created by nuclear testing. Seems like an odd change.

Of course, it begs the question of what Godzilla was doing for the last 60 years? Was he napping? Eating piles of fish? Helping Matthew Broderick fend off hyenas?
With the giant bones we saw them walking amongst, maybe they succeeded at killing it but this is the offspring?

I saw nothing in the entire run time of that trailer which made me think it was any different from any other generic monster movie we've seen in the last two decades. In fact it felt like it was running down a checklist.

I'm not saying it's gonna be bad, mind, although I know some dope will take my post out of context and claim that I'm saying that anyways. I'm saying that this trailer offers absolutely nothing that I haven't seen in every other monster movie trailer ever. I've seen so many monster movie trailers and teasers that it takes more than this to thrill me. Sorry. Call it cynicism if you want, I don't really care.
I can feel that but considering that Godzilla was the film that created the checklist I'm willing to give the film the benefit of the doubt, especially since I haven't seen any of them due to them being about 30 years old and I'm not a huge fan of black and white films.

I mean, it looks ok, and I will check it out, but a voice in my head keeps asking why they've made a full movie out of the first two minutes of Pacific Rim...
(I am actually quite familiar with the franchise and its history, but the industry changes.)
Who knows what it will be. I think most people are just glad to have a big budget mainstream Godzilla movie. We can probably thank Pacific Rim for breaking down the door on this genre which we really need more of these days. Seriously big budget monster movies with modern CGI. I'm all for practical sets and rubber suits but you have to admit after Pacific Rim you kind of want to see what they can really do with these things now. Hopefully if this movie is good and makes bank it'll open up the flood gates and that live action Evangelion movie will finally get made. Not sure how it would go but a piece of me wants to see giant live action CGI Eva's fighting weird ass angels with emotionally unstable kids as their pilots.

I was very impressed with the first John Carter teaser [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/111669-John-Carters-Mars-Isnt-As-Red-As-Youd-Expect] and we all know how that turned out
I liked that movie...

OT:
As much as I am a fan of our species and a proponent of HUMANITY, FUCK YEAH, I agree that a bit of "Oh god, we're doomed" can be very enjoyable at times.

The Inception BWAAAAAAAAAAs are a bit annoying, but I'm still quite hyped for this.
*Brofist reciprocated*

I think some of the BWAAAAAAs were actually the classic Godzilla roar.

Good eye! I was wondering why Raptors were falling out of the sky (did Gozira now have EMP powers?).

I hope its a fun movie. I am one of those people that just cant believe these type of disaster videos.
I like Pacific Rim because it was fun. I hope this one is as well. I know these monster movies have deeper meanings and respect them for that...
But, this Godzilla is NOTHING a well aimed 120mm APDS round cant solve. Its exactly ONE such round away from death... If its a headshot. And that is bloody easy with the targeting systems and size of its head...
Did you watch the trailer? they said that they tried to nuke it... over a thousand times... (well not exactly they said all those nuke "tests" the dropped in the pacific were in fact attempts to kill it. i juts happen to remember a video awhile back about just how many tests they did out there and it was around that many times...)
Of coarse I watched it. And its impossible. It should be dead 100 times over.
It is like Pacific Rim... where a Kaiju can get hurt from a punch or the flames from the engine on robots (like a jet flame) but survives an almost direct nuclear detonation...
Because jet flame>>>>Nuclear detonation....

If its fun I will like it, but kinda like the zombie apocalypse, I cant take it seriously.

ok a few things that should be known to you as its clear you didn't grow up on Godzilla movies(that's not a bad thing so just listen) ok first off Godzilla was made from radiation as such nukes don't really effect him, its more like they feed him. Next he has an outstanding rate of healing I think they actually blow his head off once and all it did was delay him a week while he recovered ,then he was pissed and killed the thing that hurt him. now this may not be the case here but thought I should at least try to explain this all for you, but if you truly want to know the whole idea about how he is such a bad ass I suggest you go to his wiki.:)

OT: cant wait to see this movie. when I saw the first trailer , during the hobbit, I actually squealed a bit when I herd him roar.

Hmm ....

No use of the iconic Godzilla theme in the trailer. Hopefully it will show up in the actual film.

Toho isn't producing, just distributing in Japan. Hopefully this won't turn out like the 1998 Godzilla. At least the Godzilla design is nice. Much better than GINO.

Dark and gritty used in describing the new film. Let's be honest. Godzilla movies are, at best, campy B-movies. And I love them for that.

Two new monsters being introduced alongside Godzilla instead of going to an already established stable. If you're going to have additional monsters appear, why not go for something easily recognizable like Mothra or Ghidorah?

I think this will be a wait and see; probably a netflix selection.

You mean the Inception BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA?

It's now law that every trailer has that.

Other than that, I'm kind of stoked by the trailer.

I understand that ecoho already responded to your post sufficiently, but I wanted to add that Godzilla's heart is actually a biological nuclear reactor, with his fins being analogous to cooling towers.

Query: What do you mean by this? Because Blomkamp is unassociated with this new Godzilla film, and he made two hit sci-fi movies, Elysium and District 9, so I'm just confuzzled by this.
Aw shit, sorry I meant Gareth Edwards the director of Godzilla, but he also directed Monsters, which is an utterly abysmal movie with all the subtlety of a mad man with a brick.

That longer drawn out roar is awful, it sounds like Godzilla ate a leaf blower factory. This roar, The bit at the end, the same one they have used at the end of every trailer so far isn't to bad even if its a little generic and over used as far as modern monsters and creatures go but the main part of it is just dreadful.

is it me or does the beginning sound and look like a reference to the disaster in Fukushima? Also looks like Rodan might be making an appearance.

That's what made me go back and take a second look because that didn't make sense. My only other thought was that it could have something to do with Godzilla's Atomic Breath causing some sort of EMP which took out their electronics but I don't think that will be revealed during that scene.

I've put some more thought into it and I remember during the trailer that was leaked there's a part where it looks like Godzilla is standing beside a giant monster corpse but it doesn't look like any other monster from the Godzilla universe.

Personally I'm thinking there will be some sort of generic monster that is simply there to be cannon fodder. Godzilla will be on a rampage and suddenly another monster will appear just when things seem like they can't get any worse. This thing won't stand a chance against Godzilla though since I think he's going to destroy it with his Atomic Breath and it will be one hell of a reveal. During the scene from the leaked trailer the body appears to be burning, or at the very least everything around it is a smoking wreck and the smoke is used to mask the true size of Godzilla. The Atomic Breath will come into play just a humanity is thinking "How can this get any worse?" and then we find out Godzilla basically breathes a nuclear blast.

With this other monster defeated Godzilla continues on and the military slowly files in behind him thinking they might block his escape back to the ocean and can somehow trap him on land. This is when Rodan appears (notice Godzilla's entrance to the San Francisco bay is at night but when the supposed Rodan attack takes place it is early morning (I know this because of the fog and I live in the area). Rodan is following Godzilla I believe and the military is completely caught off guard by it because he flies.

You hit the nail on the head here. This makes me really want to see it.

Oh and Bryan Cranston.
God a few other theories I've built up including the one above but I've also got a little more on Gigan I think.

Notice how in the trailer the military finds damaged nuclear warheads covered in slim or something in the jungle. I think this is another sign of Gigan drawing power and slowly taking form from these. Those will be what he initially draws his strength from and shapes him into that weird ooze tentacle thing we see in the trailer and I think the part where they find that is right before Gigan fully emerges completely catching the military by surprise.

Gigan emerging I think will be what draws Godzilla back to the ocean wanting to take him on and prove his dominance. It's also during this time I believe Hideto Ogata will re-enter the picture (he's the survivor from the original who helped Daisuke Serizawa, the creator of the oxygen destroyer which was used to kill Godzilla) either through the military locating him or by his own volunteer. The original site of where the oxygen destroyer was used is unknown but he knows (he was the captain of a ship, makes sense that he'd know how to find locations in the ocean) and the military will attempt to retrieve it with his aid.

The more I think about it the more I'm realizing this is a full blown sequel to the 1954 original with plans to continue forward with other films introducing the other monsters in various ways.

Edit: The guy who wrote all of the Expendables movies also wrote this, which makes me feel very conflicted. The director also directed Monsters though, which I thought was pretty good.
That... leaves me worried.

Never saw Monsters, nor do I know what it's about, so I don't know if I should be worried about the directing as well.

Never the less, I am a bit excited for this.
