Let's say that there's some game coming out soon, and you're interested in it. Why? Who knows? Maybe it's a sequel to something you liked or maybe you read something about it that caught your attention, but that's beside the point.

So, one day, you hear that there's some gameplay on Youtube. Now, you have a choice: You can eagerly go watch the video and see if it looks as good as you hope it will, or you can not. Why? Well, I don't know about you, but personally, seeing footage of a game before I play it myself somewhat spoils the experience. I'd rather go into it knowing about as little as possible and have it feel like a totally new experience (as amazing they are, I still wish I hadn't watched the Red Dead Redemption gameplay trailers.)

What about you? Do you watch the video, or avoid it?

i'll save your thread from a premature death!

EDIT: Yay, I seem to have actually saved it.

I'm going in blind with Fable 3. I don't want any of that Peter Molyneux talk letting me down.

I went in blind with nearly all of my purchases on Steam and regretted the following:

Aliens Vs Predator Classic (I just hate the whole thing.)
The Bard's Tale (terrible combat, runs a bit slow)
Beyond Good & Evil (far from a bad game, just didn't run smooth on my shitty PC)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ("realism" kills it)
Half Life 1 (meh, i didn't even like Halflife 2 all the much. don't know why I bought it.

I got into almost all games blind because SSBB taught me one thing. Hype sucks and lies and will only set me up for disappointment if it isn't the golden goose I expect it to be.
Most recently are GoW3 which I looked up a trailer for so may not count and White Knight Chronicles which until I played it today was completely blind about.
Oh man, don't remind me. I spent a good year and half checking the official website everyday for SSBB. I needed to know that Sheik was in there. Needed to know. The game didn't disappoint me, it's just that I overhyped it to myself so much. I bought the Fallout collection on Steam blind. That was a waste of 15 quid.

When I see that a game is coming out that I want to play, I tend to go in blind. I may read up on it, but I really don't watch a bunch of videos.

depends on the game... I like some games even if the gameplay is meh so long as the story is good, but if its a game that NEEDS stellar gameplay to be worth a looksee... I watch and or read about it. If not then going in blind will do me fine.

Before I buy anything, I usually read every little spec and detail they put out about it.

The only time I have not done this is Mass Effect 2.

Not bad, I'm only about 5 hours in. I have much to say on it (and gaming as a whole) in my review.

To sum it up, "every game should try to be more like Mass Effect 2"

Even though its not in my top 5, it still represents a step forward in the industry

Well, I would normally watch the gameplay and then become overly excited, but Fable 2 has changed my perspective on that. I'd go in blind.

What class? I love Vanguard. Because Biotic Charge is a freaking teleporting body slam.

Yup, playing as a Vanguard as well. Mostly because it sounded like the most badass class. My background is colonist and hardened.

And my Shepard is hot.... I mean handsome.

I wanna bang Kelly!

Vanguard. Colonist. Ruthless. PARAGON. My background is against my style see? SEE?! I'm edgy shit! 9 hours in. Kinda bored. It's a great game and all, but I'm just not in the mood for it. It turned out to be a shooter...And I'm kinda tired of them. There is less RPG here than in Jade Empire (and Jade Empire had nearly no RPG elements). But the dialogue is better. Male voice still sucks, though.

Yea, the RPG elements are really confusing. I don't even get what I'm upgrading.

Still, the fact that its a Shooter doesn't really bother me, I don't play enough of those. :p

I do. After ME2, I'm taking a break from WRPGs for a bit, and settling down with FF13.

Someone sent me a link to the "No Russian" level in Modern Warfare 2 before the game launched. After watching about 30 seconds and realizing what the level was about, I closed the video without watching the ending. When I played the game, the ending came as such a suprise to me and actually immersed me further into the game based on how much that level ends up effecting the game's plot.

As long as it's just a trailer and not gameplay footage, it's fine.

I avoided reading much about Mass Effect 2 before playing it. Turns out, the Archangel is really *SPOILER*! Sweet!

Yeah, but some developers need to tighten up with the spoilers. Bungie is good about always leaving plenty of surprises for the player to discover.
