Do your homework (at least for the subjects you care about).

I know, I know, I sound like a nagging parent, but I'm dead serious here. I was smart. I understood everything I was taught, and reveled in my understanding.

Then I stopped doing homework, and after a couple of years I was lazy and stupid, putting in enough effort to pass and little else.

Do not, do NOT, let this happen to you. Have fun, make friends, enjoy the full 'high school' experience, AND come out smart on the other end. Not just for your future, but because when you're smart, you feel frickin' awesome.

Too true, I had the exact same experience. I understood everything (Excluding some of the math, me hates numberz) but my grades did not reflect that because I forgot to do an assignment here and there. Though, as my previous post indicates, sometimes the blame rests with the teacher (My Spanish teacher barely spoke English, she barely understood what I was asking her).

Its nothing like its made out to be. Just don't be a dick to people and making friends will be easy as hell. Be friends with everyone and you will have a lot more fun. Challenge the teachers if you can though, best feeling in the world if you win. Fall in with the wrong crowd for sure, because you will have some of the best things ever happen and you will wake away with some great stories.

I've never had I high opinion of school in general, and High School is no better than any other years.
Most of the people (in my school, your experience may vary) are idiots, which is extremely off-putting and the classes don't teach jack shit.
I am EXTREMELY grad that my commencement is this month. I've been gown in the dumps the past few months, probably because my town is utter cap. I'm in desperate need of a change of scenery.

Stay yourself.

Don't go changing how you look, how you act, how you think, just to try and fit in with a certain crowd or a certain clique. You wont see any of these twats after you graduate most likely so there is no reason for you to cater to them by changing yourself.

So stay you, enjoy 4 years of crap and homework, and stay sane.

Choosing a crew is stupid, be in every crew, if you are liked by everyone in high school, then they will be the best years of your life.

Well let me see if I can put this concisely. You will make friends, then when you graduate your friends will leave you for bigger and better things and never call you and everyone else in the world will shun you. Eventually you will feel yourself slipping into madness, knowing that in the end death will be the only respit from the pain. But yeah High School its okay, you will hate it while you're there, kind of miss it when your gone.

Most importantly, stand up for yourself. And be sure to plan your life after school early. That's cool if you want to work in retail, but if you don't, find something you like and get involved in it.

Um, I'd say that you should study hard because, having worked quite a few menial jobs, a lot of the same type of high school drama continues. I can only hope this isn't as true for what are considered to be more important jobs...it's crazy. I say that you should be involved but keep your head down and out of trouble...if that makes any sense. The less trouble you are involved in, the easier it goes by. Join clubs (not gangs). I'm not saying you have to have school spirit but keeping your time occupied will make it more bearable and maybe even enjoyable.

OP, just make friends. It will help, and try to join any clubs that might interest you.

Just try to get through it. It's not horrible, but it's really not all that fun either, at least in my experience.

It seems like high school can be enjoyable... but it probably depends what you are doing there... If you are in the IB, don't be surprised if people find you strange. I'm starting on my second year of IB in two months, and in my school every other student shuns us. Make lots of friends, and have fun! (But don't forget to do your homework... if you want to.)

People get less mature as the years go up. I don't know if it's cause I live in Australia but that's the main thing I've noticed.

Well though I am probably not the best example since I am not from the US and our school system is different (highschool is the equivalent of Secondary school here), I have to say that it was by far the best time of my life, it was fun, I made several friends that I still have today (12 years after graduation...just don't ask my age), and I am related to the school still.

You'll be fine, just relax, its like primary school except the Learning is a bit more harder, the classes are longer and the teachers are allowed to beat you if you answer a question wrong and there are just new faces that you get to know, some are dicks, but some are great, or all are Meh, but thats why the Escapist was made, to fill the void.

Also stay away from the Mascots, themz evil creatures.

Its alright. Just try not to fall in love with someone. But you meet good people and bad people, so you will know how to judge character.
Last year of highschool for me and only 3 months at that.

Don't bother with prom/semi formal type things unless you already have a girlfriend beforehand. Your friends will most likely be off doing something else with other friends, and the entire experience is mediocre if you have no one to enjoy it with.

Get a job as soon as you're able. You'll meet new people, which is always a plus. Don't worry about not being able to hang out with friends (they'll be too busy to hang out anyways), or not having time to finish homework (grades aren't that important, as long as you don't fail anything). Also, down-time during jobs (like if you're a cashier and no one's in line to buy anything) is a good time for conversation with co-workers/friends.

Take a co-op class if/once you can. Makes your resume look good.
