Playing this music around me is grounds for immediate and permanent shunning. Thankfully nobody I know actually likes it.

Except possibly my brother's girlfriend, but she has a really shitty taste in music (while I agree with that assessment, those were actually my brother's words on the topic). I make a point to always have a pair of headphones and some decent mp3s with me if I ever have to ride in her car, otherwise the radio would infect my brain and I would become lame, oh noes!

Why couldn't something decent like trip-hop be popular, at least then I could potentially listen to the radio without cringing. Hate pop so much.
Trip hop? TRIP HOP?

...Lady Gaga is one thing... trip hop is another.

I have all of her songs on my ipod, but I cannot stand her. I have to make an effort not to remember who's singing when I listen to her. Everything about gaga annoys me, she just tries way too hard. I'm sick of her outfits and her 'wacky' persona. And jesus, can she please stop making 4 hours long music videos that never live up to their hype because they're all crap?

I have to agree with you. I don't like her because I'm not a fan of pop music, but she is one of the few I can tolerate. I also have some respect as her voice doesn't sound like a pitch-perfect robot in all of her songs, unlike most other "artist" these days.

So what you're saying is you'd rather listen to Lady Gaga than say... Massive Attack? Okay then!

The term "popular music" (ie Pop) says it all. By definition anything defined as Pop is going to appeal to more people than it doesn't by the numbers. Thus you find people always saying "well I shouldn't like this, but I do" in vast numbers about whatever is currently "hot".

Generally speaking the very fact that she's a chart topper means that if you like Lady Gaga right now, more people are with you, than against you.

I personally don't have a strong opinion one way or another. The fact that she exists, and I know who she is, is about as much as I can say. None of her songs especially appeal to me, but none of them are things that make me go "OMG, I must flee this horrible noise".

But then again I've never really been into music in any serious way.

I do listen to Lady GaGa quite a lot. She has a different kind of Pop music that I find that I like, most of the time I can't stand pop. It's boring and repetetive, but Lady GaGa's songs have a kind of originality that could keep me listening to her.

It's only musically interesting if you don't listen to interesting music. She's slightly above average for a pop artist, the rest is media hype.

I can't see how her music shows you that she has a personality.

I for one hate her music. It's so annoying. All it is is her making strange noises (at the very least all songs I've heard from her).

She's a perfect symbol over today's pop music: As long as people find the background noise to be catchy, it doesn't matter what she sings about.

It would be kind of cool to think that she's simply an undercover agent bent on exposing the MTV generation.
you also forgot to add repeat same line over and over again

O.T. never got in to her or him or whatever it is but then again I despise all things popular

I don't really like her music, but I respect her for knowing how to market herself extremely well.

Sorry for the obvious pun, but I wanted to ask about this.

I listen to rock and metal, ranging from Beatles to the Beatles, but due to a series of circumstances surrounding the volcano, I've been listening to the Beatles...

My parent is stuck in a different country, so I'm taken to school by my sister - who always listens to the radio in the car. Oh! And I can't get a bus because there aren't any buses around my area to take me...but the Beatles are awesome, so I am happy for this

This is the only rock/pop I actually like. Why? because they have a bloody personality! The songs are awesome, catchy, and musically interesting.

Anyone else experienced this strange phenomena? (As in, do you like their music?).

...and yes I may get praise for liking their music, I don't care. :)
fixed to be how it should happen

OT: shame on you for listening to that...well, thing
Man...one day you will learn that there's more to life than the beatles. Yes they are awesome, but open your mind to other artists and you'll be astounded by what you hear.

OT: Yeah....she's alright...
oh, I have others, but I always return to the beatles
Fair enough, I only realized the retardedness of my post just there....haha

My definition of Trip Hop is electronic hip-hop. I don't get how massive attack are electronic hip-hop. Then again, I've only heard one of their songs.

EDIT: My bad, you're completely right - sorry man, I completely lost the argument.

There's something REALLY wrong with her video clips. And I'm being serious. There's alot of strange symbolism and she 's always provocative. I know it's just for the show and the money but I'm really concerned..

Its like nails to a chalk board to me to be completely honest. Everything she does is pretty much just screaming "LOOK AT ME, I AM INTERESTING". To bad she is not.

This sums up every lady gaga song.

But you're an Escapist member! By law you're required to hate pop music regardless of how it sounds, just like social networking sites.

I love Lady Gaga. She takes all the best bits from Gwen Stefani without that sticky taste in the air.

Spot on Hubilub, that's exactly what I'm thinking too.

I don't mind other people listening to her though, as long as they stay the fuck away from me with that pop music of theirs, I won't force metal on pop-lovers as long as they don't force pop on me.

I listen to mostly metal and its various sub-genres really just a mish mash of stuff I like. Lady gagas songs are extremely catchy I for one have watched the videos to poker face and just dance one too many times even thoughi usaully hate pop music. I think its just her lyrical style that i find appealing as her on stage stuff kinda freaks me out a bit like at the video music awards.
