I can't see how her music shows you that she has a personality.

I for one hate her music. It's so annoying. All it is is her making strange noises (at the very least all songs I've heard from her).

She's a perfect symbol over today's pop music: As long as people find the background noise to be catchy, it doesn't matter what she sings about.

It would be kind of cool to think that she's simply an undercover agent bent on exposing the MTV generation.

I'm still unsure how making everyone sound like a gerbil can even be considered good music (my younger brother was listening to some such shit - really bad rap), let alone Lady Gaga.

She took her name from the Queen song Radio Gaga - I love Queen. She is not Queen. She is the Dan Quayle to Queen's JFK.

She's a Pop star, and does her job. She is interesting, and obviously appeals to a wide base. Even if you find her songs to be terrible, you have to admit that they are most definitely not generic. And so what if her fashion sense is incomprehensible, I get far more entertainment out of seeing one of those disasters then I do from hearing insufferable fashion critiques thinly trying to justify that this dress is totally different, and worth spending $3,000 on. So really, it's not a disaster. It's just entertainment. Like it or hate it, what Lady Gaga does takes thought, skill, and guts. And I have to admit that plenty of her songs are pretty catchy.

My definition of Trip Hop is electronic hip-hop. I don't get how massive attack are electronic hip-hop. Then again, I've only heard one of their songs.

No worries, I was going to point out that Massive Attack are considered the progenitors of the trip hop genre and explain that, while it's derived from American hip hop, it's really a distinctly British fusion of hip hop with downtempo electronica that ended up sounding like neither (and originally didn't have much, if any, focus on vocals), but you've apparently looked them (and trip hop) up and discovered as such on your own, so we're both on the same page now. Yay knowledge!

American hip hop artists did later go on to incorporate elements of trip hop into their sound, so I can sort of understand why you might have the impression that I was talking about that. If I had[footnote]Obviously I was not, as that would make me a schizophrenic having an argument with myself, but the point is still valid![/footnote] been though, I would have agreed with your relative musical hierarchy wherein Lady Gaga is at least better than that, as I'm not a fan of hip hop in the slightest, heh.

I find it hilarious how most of the 'metal' people I know list her as a "guilty pleasure". She's the last of the Great Pop Stars and, thankfully, she knows it.

Her videos and style are more interesting to me, I can't say I've really listened to any song though. Maybe I'll give it ago but I'm not really into that style music.

in my eyes the music industry died right after 80s pop.

I solve that problem by listening to new music that an uninformed listener would probably conclude came from the 80s (or earlier, in the case of my prog collection), when almost all of it actually came out somewhere within the last ten years.

It's just the popular music scene that died, but when has music on the radio ever really been good to begin with?

You can dance and sing to almost any of her songs with consummate ease. They have a beat that helplessly dictates your walking rhythm.

The dance/sing criteria dictate whether I like a song or not. Ergo, I absolutely love Lady Gaga.

If you want deep and *yawn* meaningful lyrics, stick on something no-one else will listen to. My Mp3 players has Pearl Jam, Lady Gaga, The Bee-gees, The Beatles, Rachmaninoff, Muse, Cradle of Filth, Sisters of Mercy, ELP, Rachel Stevens, Philharmoic Orchestra, Apollo 440, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Massive Attack, Jean Michel Jarre, Blondie, Guns and Roses & Weird Al.

I don't listen to much music as it is but I suppose I've gottn a bad impression of the songstress due to having to listen to her songs desecrated by some flouncy teen who can barely sing or play the piano that never shuts up about "The fame monster".

Sorry for the obvious pun, but I wanted to ask about this.

I listen to rock and metal, ranging from Beatles to Black Dahlia Murder, but due to a series of circumstances surrounding the volcano, I've been listening to Lady Gaga...

My parent is stuck in a different country, so I'm taken to school by my sister - who always listens to the radio in the car. Oh! And I can't get a bus because there aren't any buses around my area to take me...

This is the only Pop I actually like. Why? because she has a bloody personality! The songs are mental, but catchy and musically interesting.

Anyone else experienced this strange phenomena? (As in, do you like her music?).

...and yes I may get shunned for liking her music, I don't care.

EDIT: To explain more... I don't listen to it very often at all, just the occasional song. I just found it catchy and interesting compared to rest of the drivel that's out there in "pop".

My sister also drives me to school and she also listens to a lot of pop music!

I've found myself actually enjoying her songs, which is odd. I have some of the same musical tastes as you.

Like several people, I can only repeat whats been said. I've been listening to metal since I found music, and I think she's brilliant.

Her songs are catchy, yeah the lyrics are pretty stupid, but some styles of music I dont care about the lyrics (This means you Cannible Corpse, your music is much better than the lyrics imo).

It also gives me and my girlfriend common ground on music to dance to. And she puts on a decent stage show. It's also a bonus that she can actually hold a note, and doesnt depend on auto tune, an exceptional rarity today.
