To add to that list:

Outnumbered
Big Train
Green Wing
Pushing Daisies
Flight of the Conchords
Futurama
Garth Marenghi's Darkplace

there is likely to be more, but thats all that comes off the top of my head =D

Eh, mine are all obvious and I think already stated but whatever. I'll add my own endorsements.

Arrested Development. Yeah, I concur with the mass of people before me. It is glorious. I watched it again for the billionth time and I still catch new things.

The Office. It's starting to slow down now, but the earlier seasons (2 in particular) were extremely funny.

30 Rock. I hated it at first, but only because I refused to watch it on principle (can't remember what principle, but there was one; I think I hated the hype??). Finally broke down and watched it, and it's hilarious.

But you're already watching Modern Family, and I consider it one of the funniest shows ever... a lot of this stuff is underwhelming after that or Arrested Development. <3

30 Rock, The Daily Show, Scrubs and Futurama just to name a few that I feel you missed.

I'm not a big fan of IT-Crowd to be honest, but that can be a cultural thing - I'm not from a Commonwealth nation (thought my Dad is Canadian, and I grew up watching Monty Python and shows like Faulty Towers).

Spaced.

Red Dwarf if you don't mind older British stuff, but Spaced is a requirement. Peep Show is also awesome and still going I think, not sure when the next series is though.

Today! check 4oD!

To the OP
Peep show and Father Ted definitely

Um, Comedies? I really love The Three Stooges. So I don't get much out of modern comedy shows. I watch stuff like Sanford and Son and Everybody Loves Raymond. Sometimes I watch Scrubs, but I hate J.D. and Carla, the secondary cast is better like the Janitor, Kelso, Ted and The Todd. I have a soft spot for Bob Newhart, particularly the show he did in the 70s.

Speaking of the Janitor. Neil Flynn has a new show on ABC called The Middle, it's not too bad. Psych is a pretty good show. Although it's more a detective show, it's has a lot of comedic elements. James Roday and Dule Hill play off each other really well. Think Monk, with more humor and less OCD.
You... you hate J.D.? But... he's awesome! :(

But yes, definatly Scrubs. It's my absolute favourite TV show, it's hilarious and has ton of emotional moments and a moral to a lot of the stories.
