GOTY contenders

i just think its an amazing game tim schafer got everything right in it. yes the missions can get repetitive after a while but whats not to love the sountrack is near perfect its just a great game (o and no quick time events =D)

It will get some sort of best soundtrack award for sure.

Uncharted 2 will probably win something, though i personally think that game is "meh"
CoD MW 2 will probably get some award, though I didn't think the first one was that great so I'm holding off on that.
Assassin's Creed 2 will probably be MY favorite game of the year but that probably won't make it past the prelims.
Borderlands is awesome but I don't think it'll win any awards.
L4D 2 might get like "best multiplayer" or something which, like the first one, it probably won't deserve.
I really liked brutal legend, but then again I'm a total metalhead so I'm biased.

Some really great games have come out this year but I don't think any of them are goty worthy. We still got a couple of months.

I stopped caring about GOTY'S around the time mutiple games claim to have it.

L4D: Game of the Year Edition
Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition and I think COD4 had a GOTY Edition.

Plus alot of boring average games somehow get on the runner-up list and sometimes win. I'm gonna come under sooo much shit for saying this but I really don't see how Uncharted qualifies as GOTY material, it looks good but there are other games that play so much better. Nor do I care that much for the Modern Warfare titles. Forza will sweep best graphics given that it's the only thing that game does well. Aassasin's Creed wasn't all that either, it was good sure but not THAT good.

It won't win because it's an exclusive. GOTY usually seems to be awarded to multi-platform games, even if there has been a REALLY good exclusive that year.

They seem to be the exception rather than the rule in this generation. GTAIV, Fallout 3, COD4, the list goes on.

Forza Motorsport 3. Best Graphics.

I think Forza 3, Uncharted 2, and Killzone 2 all have a good chance at best graphics imo.

My personal GOTY so far would be either Demon's Souls or Uncharted 2. Batman, Infamous, Borderlands, and Killzone 2 are all up there as well for me.

Really hope Borderlands wins best multiplayer awards, but it will probably be between l4d 2(which will be AWESOME) and MW2.

Definitely a lot of contenders. Forza 3, Uncharted 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Modern Warfare 2 (probably) and Dragon Age: Origins (probably) are my guesses thus far. I highly doubt Borderlands has a chance, as it isn't scoring nearly as high as the other games have (or probably will in the case of the last two).

Yeah, I went there. If not, I'd hope it would be L4D2, AC2, or the ubiquitous Borderlands. I would say Prototype or Infamous, but now, five or so months after release, everyone's forgotten about them, so that seems unlikely. I refuse to say MW2. Lord knows we don't need another sequel in the mix, and I've always failed to see what was so great about Call of Duty.

I can kind of see the appeal of it, but it just wasn't for me, and I am not sure how it got to be so insanely popular. I like a little less realism in my shooters.

OT: Borderlands is excellent but lacking polish and I think that will discount it from GOTY. However, it's probably my GOTY so far. I would have to think that Uncharted 2, Dragon Age, Left 4 Dead 2 and perhaps even Assassin's Creed 2 could win. Brutal Legend and Batman: AA deserve honorable mentions.

Ditto about Cod opinions, but IMHO, Arkham takes it for me, then I think Uncharted 2 will just miss out, though it could win, then Borderlands and L4D2 will definitely be battling it out very close with MW2 on multiplayer aspects, and while MW2 may win on sales, L4D will win on replay value and lack of shrill 13 year olds.
Though my version of events does include my own opinions to a reasonable extent, and gets sidetracked, I think that's probably how it will turn out as Batman: AA as GOTY, and various awards going to the other strong contenders.

My vote goes to Demon's Souls.

If half the planet isn't allowed to play it, it won't be GOTY.

Fact is, in some backwater magazine, even Barbie's Horse Adventures on Hello Kitty Island 9 is gonna get Game of the Year, so it doesn't really matter what we say - some publications/websites are going to say Borderlands is the best, some are going to say Arkham Asylum, some Uncharted...

We need a global gamers awards show, like the Oscars, but for interactive media. Not only would it make all of this easier to work out, but it'd make gaming as a whole seem far more legit to everyday people...

So far my GOTY is Borderlands, but I think Modern Warfare 2 will more than likely steal that crown when it's released. I played (and am still playing) the ever-loving christ out of CoD4.

Seriously though, who honestly saw Borderlands being as good as it is? I know I didn't.
