Well, there's the main metropolitan area sandbox gameplay can't really be changed; I guess it's what you are and aren't allowed to do in that world. Also there's the importance of mission structure. Something that R* seems to have forgotten about

As pointed out in both of these videos, R* sandbox games used to allowed you for experiment how you want to complete missions. If I see that gold-silver-broze ranking system again, forcing you to play a certain way, then it would be a complete pass for me.

Also, no PC release (again), which always is a double-edged sword
Down to personal preference. I don't care about a "medals" system; I play the games for the satire and the freedom outside of the mission structure. Even within the mission structure, as long as I fulfill the basics to "complete" a mission, I couldn't care less if I meet criteria for an arbitrary ranking. And let's be honest, GTA has never really been about its story arcs; they're convoluted and improbable which pushes most people toward the sandbox for the nuggets of joy in between the missions that portend to flesh out a cohesive narrative. I can't count the number of missions that you can willfully neglect for hours of "fuck around-ery," but are presented in a "DO THIS NOW!!" fashion with literally zero consequence.

I feel that's what made mission structure in GTA 5, and dare I say RDR2, kinda boring. it always has been "Oh let's start this all metodical, calm and collected.... NOPE, shit going down, everyone start shooting!!!!"""

While ranking system might not bother some, there will always be the completionist (no relation to that youtube) type of people who feel triggered by the game telling them "you did a shit job!". I the mission ranking system is removed, I feel people would care less on repetitve mission structure. At the very least, get rid of the mission timer.

Also, I am expecting a really good/hilarious writing. GTA 5 made me laugh super hard the first time I played it. It was a great way to distract me from realizing how streamlined some of the missions were.

That's niggling-if-subjective scrutiny; you're welcome to it, of course, but I don't think most GTA fans are that meticulous (assuming most aren't completionists; ) I'd offer most of us just like the sandbox and all the little, hilarious details you stumble across while exploring it.

I don't expect anything from GTA6 save for another beautifully realized city sandbox that has me stopping a killing spree to notice a satirical mural or crude, ambient comment from or interaction with a random NPC. GTA is dumb fun; it's a cathartic rage room, but treated with the kind of precise care and craft that you simply don't find elsewhere. I'm sorry it's popular, I'm sorry it will likely be expensive, but I'm NOT sorry it will be fun, and most likely worth every penny. It's what videogames are about in its purest form: fun. Escapism. The missions and their structure will be the "must," but most likely won't be the reason most players stick around. GTAV was released on three consecutive generations of consoles; I've been a very vocal critic of that fact, but I also know it wasn't the main story and missions that's kept people engaged for 11 years now or what has people excited for the next installment. In fact, I'd almost argue GTA6 could get by as a more fleshed out version of GTAV Online: an open world to be engaged with not unlike Warcraft or such other MMOs that eschew a rigid story, and just offer a world to be taken as each user so chooses.

They want to milk as much console sales as possible before a PC version, but also a game this size must wreak havoc on accounting for optimization, and all the extra tweaks possible with the latest PC stuff. I’d rather it be delayed and given more dedicated attention than just shitting out a barely functioning port day one.

Jakey also had a follow up video on RDR2 -

Rockstar makes sandboxes, but their games are also still very story-driven. So they’ve compromised on this more recently with RDR2 having story missions and then free roaming with more player agency. That said, they should do more to blend them instead of being locked into a mission with the stupid “MISSION FAILED” screen for veering too far off course.

Judging from the dumb black bars in the trailer, the game will have the same problem as RDR2. 21:9 cutscenes that are bordered on all sides when played on an ultrawide screen. Simply uploading the trailer in 21:9 without the black bars that make it 16:9 would have made it display in the intended aspect ratio on standard monitors, the black rendered by the monitor instead of the video. But Rockstar doesn't care. They have this stupid misconception that players can't tell the difference between gameplay and cutscene without letterboxes or, in the case of wider displays, windowboxes.

tl;dr: The cutscenes are already in 21:9. Yet they will very likely be framed by black on 21:9 monitors.

Expanding on my previous post, congrats to Rockstar for realizing in greater detail than anyone ever before the present day American shithole that no one really wants to live in, I guess.

Can GTA6 save the gaming industry? Short answer: No. I don't know who started that bullshit and they're bigger fools for even believing it. Especially with these spoiled shareholders with overly high expectations. There will be small upsurge in people buying consoles, just to play this game next year, but none of them will be close enough to make even a dent. Simmons has some curiosity to this game, but he knows it's not for him. He considers Red Dead 1 Rockstar's best open world game. Simmons is excited for the two new characters, and prefers them over the asshole trio from 5.

This next one is mainly Max's reactions and impressions. I am surprised he even got excited. Max is impressed by the visuals styles, and facial animations and details. He puts this game on the same level as Capcom's RE Engine games like Resident 7/REmakes 2-4 and DMC5. Max admits he's not a hardcore GTA fan either, and has not been excited for a GTA game since III. All the way back in 2001. He didn't like it. I can't blame him.

Double Toasted has a reaction too. Korey takes a backseat on this one, but him and Julian still do some wild theory guessing or what they expect to be implemented in the story, the two main leads, and game. They also breakdown the level of detail and many things taken from real life Florida.

Almost as annoying as how every streaming platform seems to think it’s so important making the dialog the quietest fucking thing in the audio track. Forced to read subtitles unless you want your ears blown out at night and the kid to wake up to some obnoxious music interlude or whatever action sequence. I’m not wearing headphones unless I’m at my computer either.

It's crazy how a majority of the animated movies or TV shows don't do this, and mainly the live-action media.

I saw Havoc (2025) last week, and thankfully, it has wonderful audio mixing and sound design. It does get loud, but they never make the dialogue super quiet, even when there's a few minutes of rest.
