Not everyone in the military is a gun-toting marksman footsoldier...

Considering his in-game skill is being a good pilot, I think it's safe to assume that he was, you know, a pilot. It's possible, and even likely, that he never really had to handle a gun beyond basic training.

To put it another way, "Being a soldier" doesn't automatically make you a great marksman. Why couldn't a civilian gun-aficionado be a better shot than certain soldiers? Especially soldiers who are actually pilots...

Once you start training, you never stop training.

I suppose my biggest problem here is that someone who was in the military is being surpassed by someone who has the same standard as Scarface...Or should I say 50Cent/Tupac.

This is Rockstar, guys. A PC port is coming. Sure, it'll be 6 months late, and have performance problems even on high-end hardware, but it'll definitely come.

Sounds like they're trying to make it a little like Borderlands more than Skyrim: having a different action skill for each character. It sounds like it will have a good variety of toys too.
Yea, people complain about the little extra things in GTA games but they're all optional. Even the dates in GTA4: it was fun to try that stuff out but after I started getting tired of it, I would just stop answering the phone. No big deal.

As for the PC port, I'm sure there will be one at some point, maybe not in September but eventually. I mean, they're not complete morons, are they? GTA games are great for modding. What I'm more worried about is the quality of the port.

I'm not totally against it, but it seems odd. I'll wait to see how well they implement it first, but sounds like it could add extra complexities and depth. Again, we wont know how it works til we see it. Not all for it, but not all against it at this stage. Kind of on the fence.

will all of you shut up about a pc port? its not like there's some sort of precedent that lead you to believe it would be coming to pc right away. this topic is about the game mechanics, not the state of the pc version. ugh.

and as for the person who said "mobster... gun, soldier.. seems legit blah blah." two things. first, it says that the soldier is more proficient in aircraft, so he's probably ex-airforce and while i dont claim to know one thing about military training, i can see where a person who's in a jet all day might not be the best with handguns. also, the logic isnt the point there, it's just a vehicle for certain gameplay mechanics. every single game ever has worse logical fallacies than "mobster shoots better than soldier."

Hmm. Seems interesting.

But what I'm more interested in is how the instant switching between characters is going to work.

I can see it working during heists and such (Micheal steals the money and runs out of the building, switch to Franklin and drive away, switch to Trevor who is in the back of the van and throw molotovs at pursuing cops cars), but during down time when you're just fucking around, jumping out of helicopters and throwing grenades at passerbys? I'm still not sure how exactly they plan on working the whole affair.

But whatever. I've already pre-ordered and can't wait. I'm sure it'll be better than GTAIV by a long shot. Who knows, maybe it'll take the title of best Rockstar game away from Red Dead Redemption.

Good thing San Andreas was the best of the series.

There's something better about games that make the things you learn in the tutorial more fun and useful over the course of the game. At the start you could be struggling to outspeed the cops, but then late game you'd be turning corners on a time and flying after a ramp takeoff while shooting out of the back.

Progression is great, it's something GTA could use again.

I like they're bringing it back. I didn't miss it in GTA IV, but I think it could've been a fun addition.

Pilots are not the Infantry, they dont know how to tear down a M240 or M2 HMG.

So, yea, someone that possibly uses guns more than say someone who pretty much only flies would know more about it.

And what? Mobsters are infantry?

Like anyone in the military, you still need to know how to use a gun, it is the basis of their core training so they still learn ground combat because god fobid if a pilot crashes behind enemy lines.

ffs, I'll go one step further. In the military, you're trained as an infantry solider first.

The level system I'm fine with, It seems interesting. San Andreas was my favorite so I would love a return to something like that.

What I don't like though is the switching between characters. Seems like their trying to turn it into a party based action rpg -__-

The skill tree idea is ok i guess, the more you shot the better you are at shooting thing i think will work well. I like that you can play as all 3 characters when ever you want. Didnt know that, thought you would play 3 seperate stories and they some how meet up in the game.

What? GTA San Andreas' system wasn't that burdensome, CJ had to eat once every 3 days, which is 72 minutes straight up playing without ever saving the game in one of the many many safe houses the game had. I've only had that during the pimp and taxi mission runs. Although vigilante missions were tough without the tank or Hunter heli, let's not forget the harrier jet :3

However grinding lung capacity was not fun and neither was weapon skill for weapons the player doesn't use often, cost a lot or are just hard to find. I used to grind the weapon levels on the planes in the Los Santos Airport, because they are tough as hell and take a lot of shots, which turns into fireworks if you overdo it and the cops are determined to get to you

Michael, Franklin, and Trevor are more than just character classes with names, though. In their down time, each of them has their own life that they'll be tending to while you aren't actively controlling them. Switch characters at any given moment, and you could find your new active character at home watching TV or preparing to jump out of a helicopter, or anything in between.

Or already falling. Switch to a diiferent character and panic at finding they're halfway through their parachute jump.

When grinding weapon levels I went to the police garage and shot cops. Cops get you a higher xp gain for some reason, and being inside an area meant that they couldn't get to you as easily.

You get BASIC training, you learn more discipline than marksmanship. Mobsters know how to use guns, too. Suppose this mobster just went one step beyond and used his money and free time to hone his skills with handheld weaponry?

This game just keeps sounding better and better. I cry myself to sleep every night knowing that had the game not been delayed, I'd be playing it now...or it'd be damn close to coming out.

But then I wake up in the morning and man up and find somethign else to play for the next three or four months.

Oh that is just all kinds of wrong I am and come from a long line of service members and I am the only one that got more then basic M9 service pistol training. You get trained in being an expert in a very limited field in the service. I could tell you more about how to rip apart a steam turbine and put it back together but know bugger all about the majority of infantry tactics. A pilot can make his bird dance and do things that physics just gets angry about but won't know how to use an M-16 because 1 its not important to his field of expertise and 2 training on multiple platforms in expensive and pointlessly redundant. This is also assuming that the pilot in question was enlisted first which in all likelihood he was not and that means its even less likely that he has anything more then basic firearms training

I absolutely hate how people compare any RPG elements to Skyrim as though it created them and will somehow make it more appealing.
