Robots scare me. But not for their advanced, immoral logic that could threaten humanity as with most people, but rather for their advanced, immoral strength that could also threaten humanity...

So yeah, robots can threaten humanity. Though if I had to choose I would say Bender is the best robot 'cause he's funny and doesn't threaten me...mostly.

Though Bender is awesome

Thread over.
This thread is about robots not cyborgs, so the Terminator doesn't count. Even just the exoskeleton with no organic flesh is more of an android than a robot.

Same with HK-47 or most Star Wars "droids", they're androids not robots.

The robots which make microchips are pretty great, as are those robots which blow up unexploded bombs.

Fictionally, I'd go for Unicron, you can't get much greater than a robotic planet.

Surely they're just types of robots right?

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Dog from Half-Life 2! Shame on you all!

And I really like HELPER from the Venture Bros. as well.

Wall E is just a big chibi robo with less charm.

I did a little research and it seems I'm not the only one confused on the distinction between androids and robots.
Seems that (according to funadvice and wikipedia) an android is an autonomous robot that displays human characteristics, where as a robot could resemble a human but would not move or show character traits in a human manner.

If this is indeed the case then unicron is an android and there are prob very few actual robots being mentioned here.

Androids are robots that are designed to resemble humans in appearance & behaviour, like C3P0 or Data from Star Trek or Kryten from Red Dwarf.

Cyborgs are cybernetic organisms, a mixture of organic & robotics, like the Terminator, the Borg or Robocop.

Robots are probably everything else, like factory robots which put car parts together or bomb disposal robots.

Of course these terms very open to interpretation & debate, e.g. some could argue that Stephen Hawking is a cyborg...

EDIT: I said Unicron thinking of his robot planet guise, not as an android.
Looking at him from outside the Transformers universe, you could argue he's an android, but from inside that universe, it's a robot.
It's supposed to be very old, probably pre-dating humans & also it's bipedal form more resembles a demon than a human. It's a robot that acts with sentience, not a android which is designed on human appearance & behaviour.
After all, bipedal appearance & sentience isn't just limited to humans, so I don't think it's technically an android.

Wall-E isn't even a robot, he's a physical embodiment of "AWWWWW, so cute!" I love him, but there are better robots than him.
