I recently finished getting caught up with Geoff Johns' run on Green Lantern, became a huge fan, and found out that this thread apparently hasn't been done yet (at least, the search bar tells me so), so I decided that I might as well start a general discussion of all things Green Lantern.

So Escapists, let's hear your thoughts. Do you read the comic? What do you think of it? Are you looking forward to the movie, or do you think it'll be terrible? Do you you have a favorite Lantern or storyline? Do you even know who the Green Lantern is? I'm interested in anything you have to contribute to a discussion, so... discuss.

A DC comics superhero with the ability to create constructs of anything his mind can imagine who belongs to an intergalactic space police known as the Green Lantern Corps.

The only thing I've ever seen Green Lantern related was the Justice League TV show a while back. I liked the character enough, but I don't think I'll be going to see the movie.

I have never read the comics.

The comics are surprisingly easy to get into. There are only two comics, Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps., which can be read independently of each other, and the current runs started within five years ago and are all collected in trade. I suggest checking them out if you liked the character in Justice League.

All I know on the Green Latern is that reference in the Simpsons episode with Angry Dad and the new film coming out where Ryan Reynolds looks ridiculous.

Also, the film costume looks stupid.
I'm not familiar with the Simpsons episode. And I agree that the film costume looks a bit... silly.

I love the character despite only reading a few of the comics. I know him better through cartoons like JLU. He is awesome. I don't know which is my favourite Lantern though. I've got 4 different lantern rings (Green, Blue, Yellow, and Orange). I'd really like to read the Blackest Night event. Is it any good, and will it be/is it available in TPB form?

I just bought Sinestro Corps War volume 1. It was pretty good. The art was really good and the story kept me going even though I didn't know much of the Green Lantern backstory.

They mix it up a bit with grizzly bears and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann references.

I've seen a few episodes of Justice league (the one with the black Green Lantern) and the recent Green Lantern animated movie (it came out in the last year or so) so I don't know a whole lot about the character, but I do find him interesting and will probably give the live-action movie a shot.

We've finally got a fan in the thread!

Blackest Night is excellent and was recently released in hardcover editions. To get the most enjoyment out of it, you need to read the three preludes - Secret Origin (which is a good introduction to the series anyway), Rage of the Red Lanterns, and Agent Orange. I think that there are about seven total Blackest Night books, but the only necessary ones are Blackest Night, Blackest Night: Green Lantern, and (only if you read Green Lantern Corps.) Blackest Night: Green Lantern Corps. The rest just cover how the event affects the DC Universe.

You should definitely read it whenever you get the chance.

I've been meaning to read 52. I've heard it's quite good, which I'd expect from Geoff Johns. Does it have any connection to Green Lantern or is it just about various minor DC characters?

Have you read any other stories? I found that the Sinestro Corps War was when Green Lantern got really good.

I've only read two of the four volumes, but I don't think GL (or any other major hero) is a prominent cast member. It is VERY good based on what I've read and I what I've heard. It has Booster Gold, Black Adam, and The Question; I love those guys.

I haven't read any comic featuring any of them but I think I understand who they all are (time-traveler, Captain Marvel villain, and the basis for Rorschach, right?) and they seem pretty interesting. I'll definitely be sure to read 52 when I get some money.

I'm a huge GL fanboy. Even during the 90's, when comics in general went kind of insane, it was always my favorite title. The Rebirth/Recharge/Sinestro Corps War/Blackest Night/Brightest Day saga is probably some of the best writing I've seen come out of the DCU in a long, long time.

Guy Gardner was always my favorite. He's the jerk I love to hate.
