Seriously hoping that there's successful legal action over this - I mean, I didn't care about SE before this, really, but now? What the fuck?

SE are just full of BS.

When they claim that FF XII doesn't look like Final Fantasy they are just trying to screw over a studio they contracted things to.

I really hope that GRIN sues SE into the ground.
GRIN hasn't existed for quite a while now. They chose not to go to court because they were already in debt, and couldn't afford the risk of losing even more.
Oh. Well that's just shit. Go capitalism - where "screw the rules, I have money" is a way of life. I guess the law's just for the people who can't pay to ignore it...

Damn, that sucks for GRIN. Squeenix are yet another douchebag corporation that I now refuse to buy games from. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised for what they were requesting. Geez, the CEO of squeen must be a prick.

And all it took for them to do that was the total evisceration of one of their most iconic Characters (Dante).
They're making a gamble and hoping the Brit-punk-ized Dante and DMC along with him will be a hit with Westerners since that's where all the money is. It's not at all the most favorable result but they've always been terribly pragmatic and ruthless as far as the bottom line goes. I've been waiting years for Megaman Legends 3 and wish they hadn't axed Clover but you can't argue with results. In terms of profit in Japan, Capcom is king.

I'm surprised no one has posted the leaked tech demo video...

Well it looks like Final Fantasy... But how can you say something looks like 'Final Fantasy' when the franchise is always shamelessly jumping from light-hearted fantasy (1 through 6, 9 though 12) to science fiction (7, 8, 13) and back again?

Were the weapon designs not ridiculous enough?

The Japanese are infamous for their cutthroat business strategies, especially against non-Japanese companies. This is not a stretch to believe. Trust me, when you're doing a Final Fantasy spin off, they want you to fail.

Oh not this crap again. The newspaper that this article is from, is known for exaggerating and falsifying information in order to get a better story, it's a tabloid newspaper as translated by google from swedish. Sounds like a reliable source to me.

I've said it before, I'll said it again: Square Enix are a bunch of dicks.

Yes the story is indeed "believe it if you will", but I for one have no trouble at all believing it.

Further, Square Enix demanded that GRIN fax over Fortress's code, including music files. Bo Andersson said: "It is an impossible requirement, you can not send ASCII or binary codes on the fax. It is backward. Really retarded. It was almost a criminal activity."
I loled. Is it funny beasuse it is impossible or supposed criminal activiy?

Tom Goldman said:
GRIN then knew it had no chance of succeeding no matter what it did. "We wanted to come in and revolutionize Final Fantasy, which is exactly what they need," Andersson added. "The latest version sucks of course."
I loled harder.

SE is a bad company, who knew? Shoddy buisness practices and bad games, and yet they still survive. I wonder about this industry sometimes...

Square Enix should take some notes from Nintendo when letting another game studio develop a game for their core franchise. Remember Retro Studios, no real track record, yet made three critically acclaimed Metroid games, and Donkey Kong Country Returns. They really need to have more faith in the people they choose to work with.

This story is somewhat suspicious. I would like to point out that if SE did outsource this game to them, then they would have been paid for it no matter what. It doesn't make any sense at all that they would outsource it to another company, then sabotage the product. I can't say it's impossible, but it's still suspicious. There is also no way that this single project put them under.

I question the truthfulness of these allegations. If it was true, and you had prove like that test, why would you not take them to court? There are laws in place to prevent that kind of thing happening.
The explanation is in the original article. GRIN could not afford the costs involved in taking legal action against Square Enix, laws notwithstanding, as they were already on the brink of bankruptcy after more than five months of Square Enix withholding development salaries.

I don't know what to think, bias put aside. However, if they did do this, Enix I mean, then they deserve to play second fiddle to Atlus' Persona series even more.

That said, the last good Final Fantasy was FFX. Oh wait, it was FFIX. No I take that back! Final Fantasy VII! Oh drop that too, Final Fantasy VI was the pinnacle.

The point?: "The last good Final Fantasy" statements are stale and annoying. People have been saying that since before I was born. You can say FFXII was downhill if you want, but the facts remain that the game has AAA status from both critics and (most) fans who didn't want teen drama. ' -' Though Final Fantasy XIII wasn't ambitious at all outside of technical achievements, so I'd say XIII is a bad, bad sign, and the first true bad sign for the franchise since X-2.

How reputable is this source? I mean, this is a serious accusation. If it's true, why wait so long to say anything?

If all of this is true, I'll sue SE myself. Let's add criminal negligence to the list shall we? FF14 sucked!
