The game is fun, but I feel like the decision to remove the healer class was odd. Right now it seems that to complete a dungeon, everybody needs to die one by one to have a chance of surviving a boss battle, which is a little stupid. The combat is great though, and I like how well it flows and how it changes depending on what weapons you use. I only got to about lvl 20, then other games grabbed my attention.

Been playing pretty much every day since release. Got 8 chars, 2 of which are at 80, the rest in the 30-60 range.

Still have tons of PVE goals to do, even with my main. Also, spending a lot of time in WvW.

I played it a lot at release then kinda drifted back to my 360 at Christmas and I'm now starting to play it again after a month or so break.

I'm only at level 45-ish on my character and haven't done a lot of the main story as it seems to be just instances fighting 1 overpowered main enemy and his cronies over and over when I'd rather just explore and level that way.

Enjoy WvW more than PvP, just something about it seemed more fun.

I've been enjoying it, probably play about half as much as most people, but I only play when my friends are online as we're playing together. It's my first shot at an MMO that's kept me for more then a few hours, WoW and other games didn't last more then a week for me. Where as this game seems to have enough to keep me playing.

I really enjoyed it for a while then quite abruptly got bored. But then the same thing happened with TOR so I'm not sure if it's just how I react to MMOs in general or if I'd prefer different MMOs to these.

400 hours in on my main, and my legendary is getting along quite nicely.

And by that, I mean I've finished my Mystic Clovers.

Oh and my server is still stomping WvWvW

I think I have a level 4 Asura. I never left the starting area...

I dunno, I just get bored really quick. Maybe I need some people to play it with.

I have absolutely no respect for anyone who doesn`t like this game.

Most of the negative things said about it in this thread are really really stupid. You people are so bad so you should be ashamed of yourselves.

I especially love all the idiots saying there`s nothing to do, when they haven`t done even 30% of the content in the game. Ugh.
I know right?

God those people piss me off. Not liking the same things I like, fucking assholes.

I definitely enjoy it still, to this day. My highest character is a 70 Warrior. I really enjoy the leveling, and the complaints about hitting max level and having nothing left to do don't really concern me. For me, when I hit max level and complete the story, that's it, my character's story is done, and i'll have put in a good 100+ hours to get to that point; more than enough bang for my buck, especially with other classes and races to play as well, with their own branches in story and such.

In time i'm sure the endgame content will get fleshed out and expanded upon, as it's still only been 6 months since release, but until then, i'm very happy with my purchase of the game, and I probably consider it the best purchase i've ever made, in terms of how much i enjoy it compared to the $60.

Can anyone who still plays it tell me how the optimisation is? I have read a lot of early fan criticism saying that the frame rate was very up and down, even on pretty good hardware. Is it easy to get a consistent 30+ frames even when things get busy?

I haven't actually played yet, but I am drawn to it. My best mate has it, and once I assemble my gaming PC around this time next month I will probably make GW2 my first purchase. I used to enjoy WoW, but only if I was playing with people I knew. Hopefully I'll have the same with GW2, plus the lack of sub fees is a big plus.

I go to play it get bored and stop. I feel absolutely no motivation to play it and when I do play it I feel completely bored it just feels like a constant grind without the satisfaction grinding normally brings with it.

The game will stop setting goals for you shortly after you level cap. The leveling process will be over, and in fairly short order you can amass a set of standard level 80 gear (exotics, perhaps some rares). The only thing left to do at that point is grind for incremental stat increases on your gear, which is similar to other MMOs, only there is only one real tier of upgrades available (ascended) and the grind to get it is looooong.

That does not mean, though, that you cannot set your own goals, or play for fun. SPvP and WvWvW are there, you could shoot for 100% exploration, or alt, or set your sights on a particular set of cosmetic gear for the look. "Nothing left to do" is always a relative state. When someone says they've run out of things to do, what they generally mean is they've run out of things they enjoy. I put a good 300 hours in before tuckering out, myself. Which, as you say, was more than fair value for my $60.

I've been playing since the first beta weekend event and I still love the game. I have 13 characters with my charr guardian being level 73 which is the highest level, at the moment. I stopped to focus on my engineer which is quickly becoming my new main as it's different than what my friends started off with. Most of my characters are charr since they're my favorite race, but I also have a few asura, a nord, and a human so I can check out their stories as well. I plan on making a sylvari as soon as I figure out which profession I want to use for it. Whenever I get bored with one character or profession, I jump on another. The thief has been the hardest profession for me to play, so far. I've tried all the professions, but there are a few I haven't played on, much (like the mesmer and necromancer). Part of it is learning how the profession works and the other finding which weapon sets I'm more comfortable with. A concept that I absolutely ADORE in this game.

I also love the lack (or reworking) of roles in this game. It allows for a lot of adaptability during a fight, and no more of that "it's the healer/tank/DPS fault we lost" BS. It just gives people a reason to point fingers at each other and not re-evaluate their own actions. Roles were the reason why people were stuck in LFG queues in WoW for so long. Few people wanted to play certain roles, leaving everyone else hanging. I'd prefer to keep that annoyance out of GW2.

While I will sing the game's praises from the mountain tops, I do have a few gripes about some of the content:

1. I saw it mentioned in this thread already, but they do need to make some of the group events solo-able. The areas aren't as crowded as they use to be and being cut off from an area due to a champion mob is really annoying. I've seen people try to use the chat to call for help in dealing with the problem, but it's not a guaranteed way of getting enough people to fight the mob.

2. Some of the jumping puzzles in the game can be a bit too difficult, especially those with a timer or a "miss this jump and fall to your death" scenario. I'd imagine that these puzzles might be easier to do with a controller, but trying to make a sharp turn or a split second maneuver with a mouse and keyboard can, at times, feel impossible.

3. Lack of enemy variety. Now, don't get me wrong. The world is full of enemies. And it's nice to see that an enemy in one area has some influence elsewhere in the world as it keeps everything from feeling isolated. However, I do get tired of killing Inquest, Ghosts, Flame Legion, etc. After a while. It may be because, aside from getting stronger or having a few new attacks, they don't really change much. This can make fighting them feel repetitive from time to time.

4. Lack of armor variety. This is probably my biggest gripe. I love customizing my character and I love it when I get new armor, especially if it shows how my character is getting stronger over time. But good lord, it feels like you're stuck with the same armor (just different stats) for 10 or 20 levels. I was going to do dungeon runs with my friends to get some of that armor, but one friend lagged behind, so that idea went bust for a while. I also wanted the racial tiered stuff, but it's so expensive, that it doesn't seem worth it. Unless you buy gold, you would've out-leveled the armor by the time you manage to get the gold just from grinding. This also brings me to my last gripe.

5. The pacing of the crafting system feels slow. At the earlier levels, it feels like you can make your own armor as you level up, but once you get to the higher levels, the materials that you need seem to be more scarce. By the time you get enough to make the armor that you need, you would've out leveled it. To get your crafting up to your level, you'd have to spend some coin on the auction house or go out an grind for more materials. Around level 30 or so, I pretty much stop crafting for my character and I end up buying the armor off of the auction house.

The game is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but the pros greatly outweigh the cons for me. I bought the collector's edition and I don't feel like I've wasted a single penny on this game. With no sub fee, I feel like I can take a break from the game for any length of time and not feel like I'm wasting money.

i go on from time to time, still haven't levelled any character to 80 yet, which is a shame because i do enjoy wvw stuff, but really suck at it at low levels.

its a fun game, and my first foray into mmos. i just lose a bit of motivation because im a bit of a completionist and refuse to leave one area till i 100% another or do my dailys, so it does start to feel like a chore after a while

I liked guild wars 2, and I leveled I think three characters to lvl 80, however I was eventually put off by the fact that there was no real difficulty at high levels. The dungeons I ran weren't really hard, there was only a simulated difficulty where every boss downed you in one hit, so boss fights were less about ingame skills, and more about dodging about like a hyperactive fish out of water. The MMO I play, Aion has a really strong holy trinity, which I love. I play all mmo's with my two friends, one is a tank, and the other almost always plays dps, and with me as a healer, we are a strong base of any team. I was very dissapointed to find no real healing class in GW2. I love the challenge of healing in mmo's, having the ability to keep your team alive, and stop everyone from death by using the proper skills at the right time with perfect timing is something I love!

The leveling experience in GW2 was one of the best I've had in any game, as it was very fun to level up characters, however being max level was not as fun, as there isn't any high level pvp, because you can pvp with equal gear at any level, and all pvp gear is just cosmetic.

There were a lot of great ideas in GW2, and it is nice to see a change from the normal system of mmo's, however I don't feel like it worked out that well in their favor.

What other 30% is there at the level cap?

I have 3 level 80 characters. I could run the same dungeons repeatedly to get them the exact armor I want when I get back to the game, but I've already run most dungeons and paths and my warrior's armor is pretty much satisfactor. Bit of a pain to get people to run the others on the paths I have yet to do. I've 100% completed the map. I've messed around with some WvW. Could do fractals, but it's a bit of a pain getting a group to start with. What 30% is missing?
no, the 30% was the part they did, so they have 70% more to go before they have the right to say "nothing to do"

the huge majority of the idiot mob just got to lvl 80, maybe finished the personal story and "omg I have nothing to do now"

what you have to do before you have the right to complain:
- 100% map complete on a character
- every dungeon path a few times, that`s 48 different runs if you do it just once
- fractals to at least lvl 5 to see the different encounters
- a few games of sPvP with every class, so 8 classes x few games each with different builds
- doing the entire event chain for liberating every Orr temple at least once
- get 2-3 crafting professions to 400
- take part in a few big keep conquests in WvWvW
- do like 10 jumping puzzles, they`re all different and mostly interesting, there are 40+ total
- deck yourself out in full exotics, including trinkets
- level 2-3 more characters to around lvl 40 to see hugely different storylines for other races and orders
- do a few of the in-world, non-instanced dungeons, I only found 2 and they were interesting
- probably some other stuff I`m forgetting right now

how many do you think really experienced everything before crying ? I`m pretty sure very few of them

The PvE has no endgame, the PvP is awful, all there is to do is korean-MMO tier grind for thousands of gold and millions (literally millions) of Karma for legendary weapon and the prettiest set of exotic gear.

The dungeons feel like they were built for tank/healer/dps, but at some point the devs decided to scrap the trinity and forgot to fix the dungeons. They're very lackluster, and you have to repeat the same ones 30+ times to get the dungeon-specific armor sets. My personal biggest problem with dungeons is not that they're hard - in fact, I loved the WoW Cataclysm dungeons (you know, the ones so damned hard that most of the terrible userbase complained because they weren't able to finish?) - they're artificially difficult and poorly designed. If you've never run a dungeon before, you get constantly blindsided by trash mobs that spawn behind you, beside you, in front of you in massive packs, and sometimes from all directions - and they can easily autoattack any light armor class to death in mere seconds (again, the game felt like it was built for tanks to be able to pick up mobs). Once you have completed a run, however, you know where all the mobs spawn, you can run to the right places to trap them in a chokepoint, and the party can AoE them down. At that point, all difficulty disappears and it becomes easier than tying your shoes. The only challenge from then on is trying to stay awake through the boring, samey content and dealing with any gamebreaking bugs that sometimes plague certain fights.

Class balance is hilariously awful. The best classes only have 1 or 2 viable weapon sets, and most classes don't have any at all (nobody takes thieves to serious PvE content, necros are trash regardless of weapon/trait loadout, mesmers have a really good elite and *nothing else*). Elementalists have a really superb support build, but zero good damage options (especially when compared to classes like warrior or even ranger).

If I had to give it a letter grade, I think D+ would be pretty generous. They promised the world and delivered a shitty product, rife with bugs in every zone, balance problems they've done nothing to address, and awful PvP (which is my biggest issue, because the PvP content in Guild Wars 1 was phenomenal). Obviously, every MMO launches with bugs, but compare GW2's launch with that of Rift's - Trion had big, weekly updates for months after launch, hitting the biggest, most pressing issues players were having, showing that they were trying their hardest to make the gameplay experience really good. What has ArenaNet done with Guild Wars 2? Not a dickey bird. They put in more useless grindy dungeons that aren't full dungeons, they put in insanely buggy halloween and christmas themed events, and despite these 500mb patches they push out every month, the core issues with the game remain unchanged.

All in all, pass. Not as good as WoW by any metric, not as good as rift was at launch and certainly not as good as rift currently is. If anything I'd say it's about as good as swtor - a game pushed out half-finished by bioware that similarly hasn't received any important updates.
