By not having ridiculously high level cap.

Well, I still play from time to time the first Guild Wars and I still like it, and right from the start ArenaNet said that GW2 would have a LOT (read TONS) of things the first didn't. Also let's be honest here, the first game is an acquired taste, but one that's really worth it if you give it a chance. It has it's quirks and whatnot, but it's still pretty fun and it still has quite a big community.

GW2 will simply be AWESOME, I was already excited for the game before this trailer came out, and after seeing this trailer I'm seriously considering to freeze myself for time to fly by faster... whenever this game is coming out...

I'm intrigued, grind really is the only thing that makes me avoid most MMO games. If they can pull off what they're promising this might very well end up on my comp in the future.

this all seems fun 'n stuff, but have you guys noticed?! Yoda is in this video! Look at the figure on the left hand side of the screen at 2:00.

seriously; I love the idea behind this, and if they make true only 50% of what they promise, I'll be happy.

... I... wow. Didn't think I'd be interested in any MMO other than The Old Republic. Considering it's free, I'm definitely going to give this game it's fair shot. That world looks fantastic...
This isn't a new setup for Guild Wars, though. With Guild Wars, it's always been the "You buy the game, the game's yours. You want new content, we'll put it out in an expansion that you can buy." I'd honestly suggest giving the current Guild Wars a look.

Uh... excuse me? Did you just say it won't have the standard dwarf-human-elf races?

I... umm... I think we might be referring to different games.

See, I was talking about Guild Wars 2. The game that will feature a race of small people with advanced technology, a race of bog-standard humans and not one but two varieties of nature-loving elves [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXlzIRYA4NE].

Sure, there's the big muscular werewolf things and I suppose one could argue that the dwarves are more like gnomes. But I certainly don't feel like I'm looking down the barrel of any real innovation here.

Oh well, at least all those standard fantasy races will be able to jump when the need arises.

They said the level cap is 80, but each level takes just as long to get to.

Everyone is trying to make the innovations, and, I think its fun to see whats coming out of it...but, its getting people on board with the ideas which is the problem

ALL of the questions being asked in here, with the exception of "when is it coming out?" (when it's done), have been answered there [http://www.arena.net/]. There has been a LOT of information revealed, so settle in and enjoy the read.

If ANet and NCSoft deliver on even half the stuff they're promising, Guild Wars 2 is going to be one hell of a game.

OP: YES, you can jump, and swim. Personally, I'm a little disappointed there won't be any flying (yet?) but it's still freaking awesome.

I did. Ain't my thing. This world looks shinier (I fully admit that this part of my interest in it is completely shallow :p) and the combat more visceral, though, as well as more story driven.

I wouldn't say it's an acquired taste, but rather it's just not what people expected from an mmo. To be exact guild wars 1 is not an mmorpg. It's an rpg with online multiplayer feature, sort of like diablo 2.

Jeez, that looks pretty.
Too bad I have no faith in what developers have to say.
Reality is always weaker than expectations.

It's not about the number of level, it's about the amount of time it takes to get to that level. But yeah they're also thinking of a no level cap model, dunno if they abandon that or not.

The asuras are not dwarves since there were dwarves before but they got turned into stone, the Sylvari are more like fairies than elves and the charr are unlike any I'VE ever seen atleast. I can see your point ofcourse, but I dont really know what you'd rather have??

the lack of innovation here is in your attempt to pigeon hole everything into broad fantasy tropes.

Here's a few questions that need asking:
1) Do dwarves and gnomes have giant robots and laser weapons? If anything they're alien greys (or Protoss, heh).
2) What's wrong with wanting to be a human?
3) Can elves turn into bears? and do bears love nature?
4) What is the difference between loving nature and owning it? Look closer at the Sylvari beast for a hint.
5) Can you really say anything bad about a giant, murderous kitty cat?

If none of these questions occurred to you, I suggest you pay closer attention to that video.

What it is is a variety of character archetypes that are interesting to play (one might argue them as "standardized", for lack of a better term). What it is not is yet another rip off of Tolkien (which every other fantasy adventure does, including DnD and it's offspring).
I think that's what Tandtroll was talking about.

No they already got two setups for Gamecoms with a level 1 human and a level 40ish Charr. So they aren't abandoning it.
