Been awhile since I did a topic like this so-

Besides some people on the Escapist, GW2 doesn't have that much hype or knowledge.

Though for those who do know (some of which already have spoke) of GW2 what is your current opinions on it?

If you do wish to know more and make a good judgement on it go to: (topic made by me) http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.236131-All-yours-Guild-Wars-2-Information-Topic-New-Guardian-Class-Info-1-27-11-27-1-11

Another link for ppl who are skeptical of GW2 because of WoW:

My opinion:

I think it is the saving grace of MMO's, it has a lot of innovation to a stagnating genre and its being made by a company that understands what the genre needs. I plan on getting it release night (if they have one) and get the collectors edition. Also to prove to companies that you don't need a subscription to make a triple A mmo. Each time they announce new info it makes me glee in joy.

They already proved that a lot of their ideas have worked (gameplay videos) and various game sites have said it plays better then most mmo's out on the market today and its not even in beta. :)

I want to play it. I liked the first (Instanced environments are better then open living worlds imo). But until it comes out I wont pretend I know if it's good or not.

Still excited to see someone talking about it at least.

The first game and second are really different, read up on the topic and you will see many differences.

The difference don't matter, I still hated the first so I don't even think I'll give the second a chance. (I just hated the out of town area being single player basically and the [Insert Class]/Monk)

Which is also why you should look at the second one. Its not instanced (besides the personal story and dungeons) and their is no dual class. I mean its stupid to hate the first game and people tell you the second is different and you don't even give it a chance.

It looks pretty sick so far, really think it will be a great improvement over the first one. I'm especially looking forward to more information about trading and the game economy. I feel like the gw1 trading system is really lacking.

Looking forward to it altho from what i can tell it will be another short mmo claiming its content is in its replayability. Also dont really like this hall of monument cross over thing. They make a big deal of how gw2 wont be grindy but then go and reward all the HM grinding/Being super rich to buy monuments from guildwars 1.

Its getting hyped alot so im hoping they can live up to it.

They are promising way too much, doubt they will deliver, what I mean is it looks way too good to be true which normally translates to it is too good to be true, so I can just hope they delive.

No more major instancing? Still F2P though, right? I have to look up more about GW2. I liked the first one, but it never really clicked with me to a point where I could play it for any decent period of time.
Still F2P, check out the topic I linked in the opening post.

Korten, I think this is the appropriate link for anyone who was in anyway disappointed with GW1 and thus has doubt about GW2.

I was just speaking about this, kind of, to a friend of mine today. That is, how online (particularly here) MMOs are scorned and people consistently site WoW (the old school system WoW polished) mechanics and features as to why MMOs suck. It's like always buying cars with problems for a couple hundred dollars and then complaining when they underperform. The system WoW and many other games use is a broken system at it's core. It is the first attempt at appealing to the "four suits" of MMOs. They didn't get it right on the first try. Surprise, surprise. But WoW's success has made this old broken system a benchmark for MMOs and people expect it when they log in for the first time to play an MMO.
So when a game comes out to introduce a new system and fix issues this old broken one has, it gets rejected. (Guild Wars, Tabula Rasa, etc.) Hell I am surprised City of Heroes hasn't died because of this but I guess it is pretty much a clone of the old system with a few distinct polishes at its core really. This is why I have such a disdain for WoW, for all its polish it is a broken system. It has made this broken system, that was almost allowed to die so that MMOs could evolve, instead held with some ridiculous reverence it doesn't deserve.

Common things people ***** about MMOs that don't apply to GW:
1) The "Chosen One" (Just like millions of others) - This also ties in with the whole "community of asshats" argument. Guild Wars has a story that they are amassing an army against 'invasions'. (This is also where the races are coming from in GW2.) You are one of many "chosen" recruits in the world come to defend Ascalon. Additionally, there are a multitude of ways for you to avoid the community as a whole in the game. For all those people that want to 'solo' an MMO and not want to play with players for whatever reason it is offered here to you on a silver platter. Heroes that you "build" as additional party members, secluded zones, the heavy instances, etc.

2) The "best weapon/build" - Pretty much doesn't exist. The whole character build system is build to be able to mix and match multiple builds. Every build will have a weakness and every build will excel at whatever you choose to specialize in so much so that there is no "best build". Even the hundreds of "common builds" still use variations as such. Those build basically just zone in on how you specialized in that particular field of your class. Not list off the skills you need and weapons you should use with them. Which is pretty impressive considering you can only utilize 8 skills in a combat area. That reflects real balance.

3) Kill 50 boars/bears/goblins - Not there. In GW your quests have a specific goal you are suppose to achieve. As in go here and effect the game world in this manner. This is once again the benefit to heavy instances.

4) Grind - It just isn't here, max level is 20. The game isn't about showing who has the most amount of time to play it, it is about having fun playing the game.

5) No endgame content - That is because the old system is cyclical. It recycles its content with expansion to always keep the player 1 step behind. And if you ever really catch up to the content you have nothing to do until the next expansion comes out. All of Guild Wars is endgame content, max level is 20. People ***** about that and then they turn around and ***** about games with high max levels having no end game content. It's crazy. PLus, GW expansions don't recycle content but instead offer entirely new worlds of content that work solely as a stand alone title and not just "an expansion" for the original.

6) Camping/Grief - Again fixed by heavy instances. No ks'ing, no loot ninjas, no having to wait for something to spawn so YOU can get your turn to kill it. This allows you to to experience a better questing system and a much less rabid community.

7) Subscription fees - Not there, nuff said.

I didn't like GW much when I first played it either because of this "culture shock" in the MMO scene. It does leave a sour taste in your mouth if you are used to the old system. I didn't come to recognize it for what it was until I popped it back in a year ago looking for a MMO fix without having to pay some subscription fee for any of the crap MMOs out there that aren't worth 15 bucks a month. (Pretty much all of them) That is when I was more open minded and saw GW for what it really is.

I know that is a bit of a veer to the topic at hand at places but it states my opinion on GW1. Now, for GW2 they have assessed all that was "clunky" in GW1 and have blown my mind at how much they have improved the system.

I?m currently looking forward to GW2. I have bought the game Faction in 2006 and I continue to buy the rest (including the first one). I however eventually quit three years ago since the current game is different from when I first play it. I hated how the game is now focusing of farming gold, loot etc and people rely more on premade builds (set of skill/ spell) then using their own and I also hate those hard dungeon can the only way to complete it is everyone use the premade team builds.
Anyway GW2 look very different since from the demo videos, it no longer point and click. I love the fact they got rid of the Monk, the overuse class in GW. I glad that those characters I made are not wasted since their traits will pass onto GW2 (I really hoping they will have my favourite class Assassin in GW2 so I can created a new one so he is the descendent from my original one). My only concern at the moment it the graphic card requires to run the game.

Any game that you don't need to waste hundreds of dollars before you even reach end game is a good game.

As long as the developer releases updates and new content the game should last a few years.

I play GW1 pvp heavily, and from the point of view of a pvp'er GWII is the end of the world. (5 man gvg instead of 8, no monks, no interrupts, no shutdown, no targeted prots... it's not even the same game anymore, it just uses the title)

It's World of Guildcraft, make no bones about it.

From what I've seen it's pretty good.

I should probably get back to getting Champion of the Gods...

I think ArenaNet said it best in their Manifesto video:

Guild Wars 2 looks absolutely amazing, and has the potential to be the first really successful sequel MMORPG. It's also the ONLY game I'm willing to pay full price on day 1 for, I'm quite eager to get in on it on day one and see the world progress from the start.

They said all of the HoM equipment will be obsolete late game. I can't remember what post so the only way you can use your HoM stuff is if you change it's stats using the transmuation stones thing or whatever it is called.

OT: Anyway I think we all know who is definitely looking forward it if you're part of the Guild Wars group but I digress. It does look good but I do really want to see what they do with PvP as I am a bit skeptical about that so far but that will depend on how the new profs blend.
