I have one thing to say to that: Organized Sports.

How are they contributing to society? The only difference between the two is that one consumes electricity and the other wastes millions of dollars on players.

They make people drink a lot of shitty beer and cause murders.
Videogames make people eat a lot of shitty food and cause mass murders.

They do not cause mass murders. Thats just the bullshit the media print whenever someone who once touched a videogame goes and does something like that. Insane sport fanatics are different.

My favorite is channel 12 news in one area talked about a man's garden, where police found bodies (plural) buried. The newcasters just couldn't resist that the man, while working in his garden, would listen to a song called "Piles of Bodies" by a band called "Decapitated Cattle"... now if said news station did ANY research, they would realize that that song by that band was a message of anti animal abuse and had nothing to do with killing people really. Or what about fox news labeling a murder a "Goth" murder since the guy was into the Goth culture, they had voltaire on and he asked "Well let me ask you this, if he listened to country would it be a country murder? If he listened to The Blues, would it be a Blues murder?"

Well, except FPSs.
And some shows do have complex plots, but they happen once in a lifetime.
