5) People treat a female character with white skin better than a black man with dark skin. It's been proven statistically that people will help out someone whose pale at random than someone who is not.
You know you're right I get offered a lot of help (that i dont need) on my pale female Draenei Death Knight in WoW than on my male dark purple Night Elf Warrior - i never thought of that before i just assumed it was because of the female aspect alone.

EDIT EDIT: The amount of idiotic replies in this thread is making me want to start a thread titled "Why does nobody ever read the first post properly before posting unfounded and offensive comments?"

snip.
Read the first post :)

For me, I find an RPG has better immersion if i create a character as far removed from me as possible i.e. female, alien, elf etc
I created an RPG character n attempted to make them look like me, n it kept bugging me through out the game how much the character didn't look right as I obviously had nt done a good enough job

Only played one MMORPG, played that always as male, think theres something uncomfortable about being in a room full of guys n pretending to be a gal.

hope that insite is helpful

Well my reason for playing as a girl(not all the time, mind you) is more of a tactical aspect.

The game that comes first into mind is Quake2... and 3. In those, the girls are simply smaller then the guys, which means I am harder to see and aim at.

In none-shooters I just take what I think look best at the time, sometimes I feel like having that big awesome guy and sometimes I just feel the character or that specific class just looks better as a female. (For example, I prefer archery-classes to be female for some reason... maybe because of amazons, I'm not sure)

The last time I did this was in Demon's Souls because I wanted to use some of the female exclusive equipment. I've created a female character in a few other games because I just felt like it at the time. I usually try to go for a specific image or concept when I create a character, and the choice of gender is usually subordinate to whatever I'm going for with that.

Why is it so wrong to be lusting after the other sex?
I am a perv, and I celebrate my desire for female booties.

On topic: its because of dem booties.

I'm glad Faith is a woman because kicking in THAT many scrotums per game feels slightly less cruel.
Slightly.

To see what changes in the story, if anything at all and to see what different gameplay mechanics are used to create a feel that you're actually the character you make rather than some anonymous entity.

Well I feel awkward playing as male character and I'm a girl gamer...

Ok fine, I kid. Well, a little. I sometimes feel awkward playing as a male character, but that's when I'm actually paying attention.

If I do have a chance, yes I pick playing as a female character. I feel more at ease playing as my own gender.

On this topic, I think it's rather strange that guys play as female characters. I find it also kinda creepy at the same time >_>

When they play online they get free stuff or first dibs on loot. I have seen this happen a lot over my gaming years.

Even though no one is gonna read this

I play as women on games because it's hilarious
In what way hilarious?
Women have been pictured as weak beings among people

Going rambo as a chick backfires so hard against that thought it's funny

I can imagine that being a problem and I suppose it makes sense, thanks.

A pretty simple reason, if I'm gonna watch an ass bob up and down for many many many hours it might as well be at least a little pleasing.

Oh right yeah, that is awesome, provided the woman isn't ridiculously over-sexualised like Ivy, in which case it's just annoying.

I'd love to play Female Shepard. But the Monotone Voice really irritates me.
Don't you mean Male Shepard?

Female Shepard's voice is loads more expressive then Male Shep's.
No, i mean the female voice.

Oh man, it's time for the gender topic again, managing to amass its usual 10+ pages.
Guys, the search bar isn't that hard to use. Probably.

Sigh... if i play females in games, then i do it because i like the character. Not rocket science.
Some people like to start their own topics. I'm sure everything has been discussed at some point so why start threads ever again?

People don't go on forums to search all day. They come on here to have conversations.

For me, two reasons.

1. I don't like me in real life. Why would I want to play as me in a fictional setting if I don't have to? Playing as a girl is the easiest way for me to not play as me.

2. I'm sort of a feminist, and think women should no longer be considered a "minority". Also, it's kinda funny to hear from male NPC's, "I wasn't expecting a woman ect".
