Oh, great, let's all point at a public website and say "they did it, now go ruin it with your ridiculous expectations". Besides, I witnessed it being organized on eBaum's. 4chan is always going to be the easiest scapegoat for malicious hackers and exploiters on Ebaumsworld.
Seriously, every remotely interesting thing attributed to 4chan is the work of someone else attempting to skirt the consequences, so there's no need to go there and bother its users. I've seen enough idiots on facebook claiming to be trolls and hackers just because somebody gives them the impression that 4chan is the only haven for the internet-savvy, and they spend a week there.
I am so sick of articles like this. "Hey, everyone, the super-cool club is right over there, go start a 'rate me' thread!"
Edit: I'd also like to make people aware of the inherent irony in posting "don't these people have better things to do than mess around on the internet" on an online forum. Shouldn't you be out making nice with the opposite sex and making connections that further your future career, instead of passively spectating the internet? Or are you just so special that you're automatically exempt from the same "no life" stigma that you're heaping on everyone else that's using the internet, for whatever reason?
And stop with the pretentious "oh, they're not as badass as they think they are" internet toughguy bullshit, would you? The fact that your derision comes from the fact that this was done for their own amusement, rather than doing something important with their apparent abilities, really paints you as the snobbiest dickbag this side of an abstract art gallery. The fact that people take things like this so seriously is the reason why it's so tempting to do it in the first place.
