There's no indication that the games out there actually have been bought from a retailer so it's easier to claim that copies have been stolen and distributed rather than to blame retailers which might get offend them.UberNoodle said:Why is a consumer who bought a product from a seller a 'thief'?
Dang, I'd actually pay to see (just see, not play) the Chief Master fight the flood by blarring power ballades into space.Grey Carter said:Of course, the answer to spoilers is simply to flood the internet with fake claims to make picking out the real ones impossible. I've heard that the game features segments where Master Chief battles aliens with the power of song.
So.. if the leak shows something shitty, it's bad. But if the leak show's something good, it's good?SmashLovesTitanQuest said:I just checked The Pirate Bay. Its legit, or at least one upload is.
Deus Ex is the only game that benefitted from the leak.T3hSource said:Can somebody please explain to me why M$ is panicking? This leak can stir up much more hype than CGI trailers. If they think they are going to lose sales, they should be smoking a bit more money to realize that people are going to buy it anyway,be it 16-year olds or grandmas.
Sure it's not a complete build that's not representative of the final product, but some people want to see GAMEPLAY,has anything changed and is it good?
ME3 leaked,sold through the roof.Deus Ex:HR leaked half a year before release,still sold over a million.Crysis 2 leaked,still sold well for a sequel.
This is just PR peeing in their pants and nothing more,do they have to make it into a drama?
The ME3 leak basically encouraged Bioware to change the story, and we all know how well that went.
Crysis 2 was probably hurt by the leak, mainly because it confirmed peoples predictions and fears.
Deus Ex: HR didn't have much to lose. Most people were convinced it was going to be shit. If the leaked beta had been terrible, not much would have changed. But it turned out to be alright, and that got the game a lot of positive word of mouth.
Now, Halo 4? From what I've seen, it would not surprise me in the slightest if MS weren't confident enough in the product. And even if they were, 3 weeks is a long time.
Some pirates (and even some publishers and developers, usually more associated with the indie crowd) tend to see pirated copies as "extended demos". Whether they are sincere or not, whether it's ridiculously idealistic or not, a lot of pirated games' readme.txts apparently feature statements along the lines of "here, play this game, but if you enjoyed it, please buy it to support the developers" or something like it. There's probably some truth to that at least. It's not like such a statement would help them legally I expect, nor do I think they care too much about the legality, so why put it in if it isn't at least somewhat genuine?Sylveria said:So.. if the leak shows something shitty, it's bad. The ending in the leak was almost the same as the release - it has you choose between Destroy, Control, or Join (after being mind-controlled into shooting Anderson) - so its epicfail status was not a result of the leak.SmashLovesTitanQuest said:The ME3 leak basically encouraged Bioware to change the story, and we all know how well that went.
Oh yeah, it's real. The entire game has already been streamed multiple times. Hell, the Legendary epilogue was up on Youtube for a solid 12 hours before MS pulled it.arc1991 said:Seen the leaks, don't look real, we had a thread ages ago saying the Chief wouldn't reveal his face, it also been posted in magazines and stuff.
I'll believe it when i see it.
Actually if someone finds something out bad about the game whether it is representative of the final version or not, could snowball into backlash against the game. I don't think leaks help sell games, of the games you listed, the reputation of the previous games help boost the sale of those games.T3hSource said:Can somebody please explain to me why M$ is panicking? This leak can stir up much more hype than CGI trailers. If they think they are going to lose sales, they should be smoking a bit more money to realize that people are going to buy it anyway,be it 16-year olds or grandmas.

Microsoft as a business probably doesn't care terribly much, as you said they'll still cash in on this either way.T3hSource said:Can somebody please explain to me why M$ is panicking? This leak can stir up much more hype than CGI trailers. If they think they are going to lose sales, they should be smoking a bit more money to realize that people are going to buy it anyway,be it 16-year olds or grandmas.
