Great, now I have to budget for all the cool new games... I think I hear my new bank account crying, knowing that it's going to be emptier the the heart of a dead hooker soon... Better start saving...

Also, I wanna see some more kick-ass Live Action ads they had with ODST and Reach... Complain about ODST all you want but it had a pretty Bad-Ass ad campaign going...

Halo CE Anniversary plays literally 100% like the original. It just looks newer. And, if you're pissy about that, you can switch to the old graphics with a simple button press even mid game.
Then what's the point in remaking a perfectly fine game?

Do people seriously not understand that stories can go on past when their chapter ends?
Just because they can doesn't mean they should. Halo 3, unlike the other two, actually had some closure at the the end: covenant without leadership and most likely facing dissolution, the Flood destroyed with the destruction of the Ark and the Elites leaving for their homeworld.

This is a new fight
Why? There is no need (for the reasons previously stated). You can't really deny the fact that this game is a blatant cash-in, and the fact that it is a 'new fight' perfectly illustrates that.

Why the fuck does Halo get so much needless and ignorant hate?
For the record I actually love Halo! The original three are three of my favorite games of all time and I often find myself replaying them.

And besides this is MY OWN first reaction. Who knows? I may end up getting it if they can show that it isn't as bad as they're marketing makes it look.

I sat there like this "no no no no no no no no no no no!"...

It's not that I hate the Halo series...I just know that my partner is going to make me play them with him. XD I don't like FPS games.

Another trilogy by a new studio though...They could either shine a whole new light on the series or smash it to the ground...

It's best just to wait and see with things like this.

Sooooo wasn't this franchise supposed to have ended? Some people with decision making power in gaming need to learn when to fucking do something new.
A) For the 9 billionth time today, someone actually has to say that THEY NEVER SAID THE FRANCHISE ENDED AND THEY SAID THERE WOULD BE MORE GAMES FROM DAY ONE. 343i was ALWAYS going to make new Halo games. Reach was the last BUNGIE would make. And even then, they said "for at least quite some time", so they might even come back to it if their current project flops.

B) There is nothing wrong at all with continuing a franchise if it's done well. What is wrong with everyone thinking every damn game needs to be a new IP? Seriously! The Halo universe has such potential, and I look forward to it's future. If you don't, fine, but don't damn them for continuing it.

Holy shit, didn't hit a nerve did I?

If the Halo Universe had potential it has damn well exhausted it. And seriously, you think continuing a series once its driving force has ended is a REALLY GENUINE way of bringing the universe TO THE PEOPLE or just a pathetic money making attempt that will obviously work because of people like you?
Have you read any of the books? The comics? Seen the animes? Heard the audio drama?

The Halo Universe has an immense amount of potential, gamewise and otherwise. Done right, you could make a Halo game in almost any genre, and tell almost any type of story.

And yes, it can be a really genuine way of bringing the Universe to the people. Bringing the favorite character to face a new foe? That's done all the time.

So yeah, you hit a nerve with me. And you hit another one with that "people like you" comment. You got a problem with Halo? You got a problem with the fact that they're continuing it for the fans that still enjoy it? Ask yourself this:

Why?

Does it effect you at all? Does it take away from other games you like? Does Microsoft making more money make your day worse?

This is what I don't get about people that needlessly bash things like Halo or Call of Duty or Mario or Zelda. Why the flying fuck do you care if they make a new game in a franchise? Why are you so against it if you have no investment into the franchise? Seriously... why?

And that comment isn't against just you. It's against every person out there complaining about Halo 4 or Modern Warfare 3 or the new Mario games or what have you.

I'm just sick of people criticizing games before anything is known about them.

Yeah, I'm excited about Halo 4... but to learn about it. Meanwhile, you and 70% of the people on this site are saying it IS shit, even though you know just as much about it as I do.

So take a step back, and seriously ask yourself why you care so much.

And before you ask why I care so much? Halo is my favorite franchise. Not my favorite games, oh no (that title belongs to Dragon Age: Origins). But the Halo Universe is vast, rich, with amazing characters, and it's ever growing. There are five books on the way. Five. All expanding the universe.

Neither story wise nor gamewise has Halo jumped the shark. So why stop?

EDIT: GOOD GOD did it feel good to finally get that out there. Don't take personal offense to this. I'm just sick of the amount of negativity on this site. I need a break from here.
This is brilliant. This is the exact response I wanted. I didn't even read half of the response.

You're only proving my point bro. Making money releasing the same game every few years? Keep going. And it's all thanks to PEOPLE LIKE YOU. And CoD freaks too.

Have fun reading your expanded universe halo garbage!!!!
Oh, you're an ass... I get it.

I pity you. I'm enjoying an amazing world of fiction, and you're... what? Being overly picky, I guess? Ignoring a quality story? Judging something you obviously know literally nothing about? Being an ass?

Nay, you're being a troll.

So you know what? Go on thinking the way you do. It's not like I ever need to deal with you in real life.

As they say in Ferelden, thank the Maker. I hate dealing with annoying little children like you.

And I don't care if you're 15, 25, or 70 years old. If you're acting that way, you're still a child.

This would be one of those things where I would just say "why not?" and it'd go back and forth with both of us giving valid reasons. So let's just leave it at "ok" :p.

The one thing is I don't see how the marketing makes it look bad...

Tbh, kinda meh atm. all they gave us was a pretty mediocre prerendered cutscene. Show me a little bit of gameplay, plot, and a few mechanics and I might work up the ability to give a damn.

Truth be told I think I am more excited about the "Halo CE: 10y Anv." than Halo 4 atm

I'm not excited about it. I didn't get the Halo feeling from watching the trailer, and to me there was no need to continue the story of Master Chief. What the hell can he do on that alien planet?? It seems totally out of place. In my mind, MC was kind of the physical manifestation of human kinds will to survive. An non-human god of war woken in times of great crisis, unable to truly relate to anyone human, sharing a bond with another artificial creation. The trilogy ends with MC drifting into space with Cortana watching over him, since he is no use in a time of peace. Ending with words something along the lines of "wake if you need me", a vague promise that if human-kind is ever threatened again him and Cortana will rise to fight once again, MC can be seen as a sort of humankind's Ogier the dane (see link) who rests under Kronborg castle and promise to fight off invaders, but is more of a symbol of will to resist than anything else.

For me Halo 4 will be kind of like the Star Wars prequels. Ruining everything by giving me franchise-fatigue and ruining the originals a bit by trying to take up the same name and mythos. ODST and Reach were fine. They didn't involve MC really, and ODST had a completely different vibe with the jazz-filled night-sections in the city. Halo 4 will just reopen what was essentially a nice and self-contained trilogy, and that is never going to work.

I really don't care.

I don't hold anything against Halo, if that's your thing, great for you, but I personally never cared about them.

But I do admit it has been at times amusing following the flame-wars of fans and haters from the side-lines, so a part of me hopes this game will do something totally outrageous to piss off a lot of people.

Or be totally safe and more of the same, and piss off people anyway.

Yeah, I'm willing to leave it at ok :)
About the marketing: I don't know, to be quite honest. To me, both the trailers for Halo 4 and CE Anniversary just didn't look great. I mean, when I saw what they did with the maps, armour, graphics, etc. of Anniversary I just thought to myself "Wow, that looks a lot like Reach... OH WAIT!" And when I saw the Chief's armour, I threw up a bit in my mouth. From what I've seen, it doesn't seem as though Halo will ever be Halo again. They've lost much of the original feel and I foresee Halo being the new CoD in that multiple devs have worked on the same franchise and you can just tell who actually knows what they're doing. *descends from soapbox :p*

As for Anniversary, just for the record, they already said that they were fixing the Chief's helmet, and just couldn't get it out in time for E3. Other than that, though, I disagree. I think it all still feels incredibly Halo-ish. But hey, the future will tell which of us is right.

Except it wasn't... good god, seriously, do I have to explain it again? Do I? Really? REALLY?

*sigh*

The game is not Bungie. It is 343 Industries. Bungie is on to different things. Bungie is no longer affiliated with Microsoft. And they never said that there would be no more Halo games.

Strangely, I wasn't at all pumped by it. It's not that I'm not excited by a new Halo game - I am, although less so than perhaps I should be - but I feel that the trailer really fucked up the timing. No, listen:

We had a good fifteen seconds of shit all happening, to start with. That's not building to a crescendo; it's fucking boring.

After that, we got to see the chief for half a second before he took off and did some ludicrous block dodging so that he could stare dramatically out into the distance.

Sorry, but the more I think about it, the more I hate that trailer. The others have all been way better. Watch this, and see what I mean.

See? There's the opening bit: the two children talking in a peaceful setting. Then there's the big reveal, and we get a good long look at the chief, before he shows us an awesome new piece of tech and then goes and attacks a fucking armada of brutes.

I understand that the options for the Halo 4 trailer, without giving any of the plot away, were limited, but fuck, they really needed to at least get the timing right.

Even this: Was better than the Halo 4 trailer. We saw quite literally nothing, but they got the drama right, and the build up.

Most of my excitement for this game ruined by a shitty trailer. Bugger. :S

/edit
Not to mention that they had a tonne of incredible music at their disposal, but that they instead went with a soft and rather generic score.
Yes, the trailer was quite poor, even the animation wasnt good.

The game cant be judged yet since they showed nothing but I would prefer if they did something different while using the same universe, like Halo was to Marathon. They could even continue directly from this point on the story but lose the Halo name since the halos are gone now. Its just that this part of the story doesnt belong to the Halo story, that one already finished.

The "jet pack" is one of the zero-G thruster packs that is part of the Mark VI armour build, I think it gets explained between first strike and ghosts of onyx

On topic: HELL YES!

This ol' cow has been milked dry.

Guess this shows the Halo 3 really wasnt the final fight. Well done Microsoft with that very well played money grab. Hype over a game meant to be the last in the saga. Then along comes more generating even more hype and consequently, and most likely, profits profits profits.

I am so, so, SO excited for this.

I know everyone says Halo never changes, and thats its dull, and repetitive, and has no substance, but I still LOVE the franchise to death. I prefer it to Gears, I prefer it to Call of Duty, I prefer it to Battlefield, I even prefer it to Half Life (Oh my God Blasphemy!!!).

I love those other franchises (except for Gears and Halflife. Gears is dull as shit and Half Life... I never really got Half Life. Well made, but it just didn't stick) but everything about Halo makes me smile. The story, the enemies, the weapons, and most definitely the music. I don't know of better music than the stuff Marty has written.

So yeah... I'm so excited for Halo 4, and 5, and 6, and Anniversary. I'm tempted to go on a Halo game now.

I am dissapointed. It just... looks wrong and Cortana calling him John all of a sudden? And the jetpack!? And the fact it looks like they're trying to turn it into a non-stop action movie?
1) john is his real name and the only people that really know him enough to know/use it are cortana and dr halsey

2) i don't know about the jetpack, maybe it was installed by cortana whilst he was sleeping or something. maybe he picked it up off screen. it's a really pointless continuity error to get worked up about

3) they're on half of a burning ship heading towards a mysterious structure as the ship is exploding. what did you expect him to do, calmly walk there?
1) I know his name is John, but in the games she always refered to him as 'chief'. It's out of character.

2) Installed with what equipment /power/ without waking him? I agree it's a bit pointless to get worked up about, but it seems to just be really badly crow barred in at the last minute.

3) Yes. /petulance. But seriously, not like that. Also, I don't expect him to be able to just jump out a cryo tube and be perfectly fine and know exactly what to do.

I love this franchise, I just don't want to see it ruined because of a few errors in judgement.

EDIT: although I am interested in this new planet.

It's a great idea.
Halo was a great series with sufficient wiggleroom for much more story content.
Using Halo Legends as my example, a fresh point of view isalways welcome.
