Really, this should become mandatory for all Online FPS games, atleast for non kill=score gamemodes like CTF or DOM. Nothing really kills objective based gamemodes than K/D whores.

What do I want most from Halo 4? Quite simple; I want it to not exist. Ever.

Call me a troll if you must, (it's probably true in this instance) but I think Halo should've ended after the first one. I bought it the day it was released for PC, (I had no Xbox nor inclination to get one) and thought it was distinctly-average... up until the Library. At which point it turned into the shit sandwich to end all shit sandwiches and I was left with absolutely no desire to touch its sequels for fear of getting even more of this stink on my hands.

My wishlist for Halo 4 is pretty much a decently written story and a relatable character or two.

God knows I don't have a problem with the way the Halo games play, with all the other shooters in existence this console generation being (Well, let's not mince words) completely shit, the action orientation in the Halo games is at the very least engaging even if it's still less than nothing if you compare it to a 90's FPS or even Bioshock. But Halo desperately needs a story overhaul and since the crap trilogy is over it's my hope that 343 has a real writer or two under their employ that can tell a story more interesting than "Aliens suck". I'm even willing to concede that It'll be okay that Master Chief can be in it, even though Reach was the best of the Halo games for simply not having anyone that boring in it but I digress. Most likely Cortana's going to be in it and that's a big-old plus in my book.

The gameplay doesn't need any real changes. (Note I said 'doesn't need' it desperately wants them but only if they move farther away from the current plague trends of modern shooters) Halo's always had above average level design and compared to Gears of War or Modern Warfare it actually looks quite nice.

So the story and the writing is the only thing that needs to change for it to get my vote.

Well you can't really say that the other games shouldn't exist if you never even played them can you?

Story wise 343 has to focus on the relationship of Chief and Cortana. Chief is a man of action, a perfectionist and a team player. Its rather sad that I had to read a book to find that out. 343 has a chance to flesh Chief out a little, and they might have to because Cortana is probably going to die. The relationship between Chief and Cortana is essential because Cortana is Chief's last teammate and friend this is the most emotional thing the series has left to offer, unless they default on the end of the human race, the I will be disappointed. If they can pull off an emotional story. I will be impressed.
That's very interesting. I never thought of the Chief as a team player. You raise a good point in that you had to read the books to find that out. Case and point that they need to expand his character in the game to let that stuff shine through.
I also agree that the Chief / Cortana relationship is vital to giving the story some emotional depth. I have a feeling if Chief lost Cortana he would be very, very different.

As far as my wishlist goes. I'd like to be able to fly a Pelican.

Why would I play the other games when the first game was less fun for me than licking an electric hotplate?

Uh, because I didn't like the first game and I love Halo Reach? Because a series gets better as it goes on?

Weapon lowering on XBL would be nice. As for Forge I'd like to be able to change the time of day and have access to all the vehicles. I mean ALL of the vehicles, and the weapons too. Don't leave anything out

I can barely take you seriously. You've taken the concept of sequels, turned it into some convoluted argument about human nature, and at the end of it all you decided to insult people that want to see more Halo, or any other additions to a series for that matter.

Let's go over this point by point.

Your point regarding Halo and the difficulty of doing something new from in universe:

Wrong. Halo has always had something playing out on the sidelines- the mystery of the Forerunner. I, and many others, could always tell that the story behind the Forerunners wasn't as simple as it seemed. Many hints in the games and books (the books are canon, don't try and argue otherwise) supported this. That's where the new games are taking things. Elaborating on a sub plot from previous games/media and bringing it to the front. This is a somewhat difficult task and not everyone will be pleased, but the people working on the games now are the ones that love them... fans and some of the original creators that still saw the potential that the Halo universe had to offer. Because of that, it could end up fantastic.

Which brings me to your point about the Halo universe being all about Humans v Covenant v Flood. That's such a gross oversimplification. Look at the books, comics, and animes. There are a multitude of side and sub plots going on, from personal conflicts to the whole grand scheme of things (of which we are finally learning things about). Hell, there's a fucking audio drama that only ties into the main story of Halo at the very end. The rest of it is about a young guy who accidentally acquires a heavy duty ONI AI that can do pretty much anything, and is so fragmented she doesn't remember what her purpose was or where she came from. A universe as expansive as Halos has the potential to tell hundreds of stories.

I guess I'll use that to bring us to your final point, though I'll go over the others as well. Have I got the balls to let Halo go and play something new? How about this- have you got the balls to admit that you're wrong about something? What if Halo 4/5/6 end up improving each time? What if 6 ends up being the best? What if it's the best FPS of all time? Will you admit you're wrong, or will you keep up with your bullshit "sequels are harmful herp derp" crap?

I want more Halo. I love the universe. In fact, it's somewhat of a dream of mine to be able to write for the universe, whether it be for future games or books or films or whatever. But guess what?

My favorite game of all time is Chrono Trigger.
I feel that the best bang-for-your-buck game ever is Skyrim.
I believe that the best designed game of all time that tells the best one-shot story is Red Dead Redemption.
And my list of favorite games of all time includes only one Halo game- the first one (or more specifically the re-release, Anniversary).

The Halo universe is my favorite fictional universe and tells my favorite overall stories, but it is by no means the only series I play, so don't go acting like you're doing me a favor by trying to convince me to give up one of my favorite things, and don't you EVER fucking accuse me or anyone else that loves something like this of "not having the balls" to try something else. Calling us cowardly for something like that is absolute horse shit, and the second I read that line, I lost all respect for you (though to be honest there wasn't a lot to begin with considering how quickly you dismissed something you've yet to even see anything about other than that it exists).

As I finished typing this, I decided I'm not even going to bother attacking your other points (I have words to say about your "rule of three", but it's pointless, as a lot of times sequels past 3 are terrible, I can agree on that), save your response to my third point.

Saying "go play the old stuff" is stupid. It's just stupid. It's more detrimental than making a sequel.

Yes, I go and replay old games. But you know what I do after? I play their sequels, all in a row, if it's a continuous story, and because I want to play a similar game with new elements. If all I had this whole time was the original Halo, I wouldn't have something in my life that's brought me hundreds of hours of enjoyment, because the Halo universe wouldn't exist. Sequels build on ideas, both in story and gameplay, and at least try and perfect them. Without sequels, we wouldn't have the gravity gun. We wouldn't have the Source engine, which is outdated but brought so much to the table before. We wouldn't have gotten Portal 2. We wouldn't have gotten GTA 3. We wouldn't have gotten Modern Warfare. Morrowind, Oblivion, or Skyrim. Mass Effect 2. Chrono Cross. Final Fantasy 6/7/10. Megaman X/Zero.

It's ridiculous. Just plain ridiculous. I can't even wrap my head around the idea of trying to pull new universes out of our asses every damn time we'd want to make a new game. Yes, it's easier to make something that takes place within an existent universe, but just because it's easier, doesn't mean it's bad, by any means.

And as for saying "go play a game like it", no. If I want to play a game like Halo, I want to play a Halo game, one that takes place within that universe. If I want to play a first person shooter that isn't in the Halo universe, I'll play a first person that that isn't in the Halo universe. If I want to play a Halo game, I'll play a Halo game, and if I want MORE Halo, I want it in the form of a Halo game... that should be obvious. I can't believe I'm even explaining this. It's so redundant.

Anyway, I'm done. Reply if you want, but in all honesty, if it's the same stuff you've been spouting, I won't even bother replying.

Aw, hell, I'll just admit it. I practically shed a tear every time I hear that particular melody. Most beautiful piece of music ever written, I say. I especially like that iteration and the one at the end of Halo 3. One at the beginning of Legends is amazing too.

Soviet Heavy, you seriously have no idea how much you just helped my mood. 'Scuse me... I'm gonna go play some Halo :D

And then some Morrowind. Maybe some Dark Souls. Because unlike what some people apparently think (see the argument I have going on in this thread) I like more than Halo.

Oh yeah, that reminds me, Marty isn't going to be working on Halo 4...well that's strike one right there.

You are one very rude man. I didn't have to answer your question if I didn't want to but I thought we could have a polite conversation about it. I never tried to make things personal and I never spoke for anyone other than myself. Your accusations are hateful and childish. Next time, I won't bother stating my point of view. Good day.

P.S. FYI, the Halo universe is a trashy B-rate sci-fi story and this I do state as fact.
You accused me and others of not having the balls to try something other than Halo. That was a personal attack.

And that last comment there, the PS, is 100% troll bait.

It's been a pleasure, my dear, dear friend. I hope that Halo 4/5/6 break sales records just to piss you off.

Agreed :/ but thankfully the guy that have is decent. He did the music for MGS 4. Hopefully he'll stay true while still bringing new stuff to the table.

Oddly enough, this piece of music always reminds me of Finding Nemo for whatever reason.

Hey, it may be my second least favorite Pixar movie, but I'll be damned if the music isn't fantastic.

But it more reminds me of Wall-E, more specifically this piece:

EDIT: I FUCKING LOVE PIXAR.

WHOA, sorry.

*ehem*

Kinda... slipped out.

Yeah.

Love those guys.

OH, I hear it. I definitely hear it. It's stuff like this that makes me wonder how some people can't feel emotion from instrumental music. I get more emotion from stuff like this than I ever did listening to lyrics. Beauty in the form of sound... I love it.

I disagree on almost every point you made. Most of those complaints can be boiled down to, "people can use this addition for this strategy and I don't like that." Unless an addition means that a single player becomes god of the match, removing it is idiotic.

Add the flood and maybe forerunner tech to firefight, let people play as elites fighting off hordes of SPARTANS.

Make automatic weapons better. They just plain suck when used against NPCs.
