OK, seriously, I'm sick and fucking tired of people saying there are too many Halo games. There are four, five if you count ODST, and six if you count the yet-to-be-released Reach.

So let's just go with that. Six. How many Call of Duty games are there? How many Mario games are there? How many Pokemon? Grand Theft Auto? Final Fantasy?
The problem is that Halo has a story it wants to tell and is set in the same consecutive universe.
Final Fantasy on the other hand is a new universe, a new story, new setting, new battle system with just about every game. GTA: New world, new story, new stuff. Pokemon just sells and again sells due to the new Pokemons, not the story. CoD: They only have WW2 to work with, and they tell the same story again and again only with a few twists, the only thing they're really building on is the multiplayer (until MW came along which had it all) but they told the same story, not a consecutive story. And Mario, well.. The princess is in another castle so we know what to expect of a 'story' in those.

Halo wants to be a FPS WITH a story, and there comes a time where you push a story too far.

In the end I'm not really interested in Halo. As long as they satisfy their fans without destroying the story by not knowing when to stop, I have no problem with them making new games and can't see why anyone should.
There's enough of an extended universe for them to have games not involving John-117 and Cortana. The books really flesh out the world, making so you could really make a story and stick it almost anywhere in there, in a similar fashion to the Star Wars universe (though not nearly as developed).

So says the XBL member that has two Halo games in the top 5 most recently played games...
You are awesome. End of story.
Nothing else to play. Most of the games on XBL arent split screen and arent too multiplayer friendly. If you find a better hub other than left 4 dead, halo, and possibly modern warfare 2 (if it has online multiplayer with splitscreen) let me know...

Kill it now. Seriously, I don't like any of the Halo games. Halo 2 was good, and Halo 3 was tolerable. But now, this is getting silly.
And? without trying to sound like a fan-boy,but what is wrong with them,( searching multi player monkeys excluded), I despise the COD series but that won't stop it being as popular as breathing oxygen.

OK,I'm not American either, but come on!
that's racism my friend.
Yes halo is for retarded kids....and wooden spoons sing sweet lullabies to mannequin pedophiles.

Reported for Bigotry.
I just said that It was retarded for kids to play it eventhough there was FINE PRINT that you had to be at least 18 years of age to play... its just rampant in the states thats all... but don't get me wrong other countries kids do this as well no offense dude but I was just stating my observations...

I mean, come on, guys. I've never seen a game get bashed for having just six games (one of which barely counts!). How about you just wait and see what games they have coming out and judge them on being a game rather than them being a Halo game? Is it really that hard? Do people really have to ***** and moan this much about a huge franchise? Seriously, it's not like it's a first...

I'm sorry, what? The only people that can like Halo are retarded children? And of course, you pull the "from America" card.

Reported for flaming, you bigot.
I didnt say americans were stupid. I just said that the children were since they neglect to read the fine print that states "M for mature". They should follow this for a reason.

its a little over the top i can see finishing the whole halo three thing even ODST you know trying something new its cool. Halo reach is still up in the air but 15 years of Halo as a fan i don't even think i could handle it.

Actually killing Halo wouldn't be a good idea. It is a rare sequel case where the second sold more than the first and the third more than the second. Having said that, I don't think that ODST will sell necessarily more and milking a series without caution can cause serious damage to it in the long-term. Hell, even Nintendo's money-making Pokemon Diamond/Pearl might have sold over 10 millions but it pales in comparison to Pokemon Red/Blue which sold around 30 millions. Remember people, the vast majority of the sequels are doomed to sell less than their predecessors.

What could they possibly do from Halo 3?

"Well, we saved the galaxy.... DANCE PARTY!!!"

Oh god, Halo DDR. What have I created?

6 CoD, about 17 main pokemon games/versions, almost 13 Final Fantasy games, and I'm not going to count the Mario or GTA games...
Way more than 6 Cods, my friend:

Call of Duty
CoD 2
Cod 3
CoD 4
W@W
MW2
(main series)

United Offensive
Finest Hour
Big Red One
Roads to Victory
Final Fronts
MW: Mobilized

That's 12 all told.
I was only considering main series games for these. There's like millions of spin-offs for all of these franchises, especially Mario.

too many... some are okay but others shouldn't be let to play the game. However I also hate it when fully grown men whine... kids do it but its annoying and cute...when adults do it, its just weird

Fair enough, although I thought that this was meant to be in relation to Halo. If we are discounting spin-offs, that's two Halo games straight off the list.

Well I must admit I was kind of looking forward to just calling the Master Chief/Cortana/Arbiter storyline as concluded. Because to be very fair the Covenant has been defeated, the war is over, the Halo Megastructures are unable to be fired, Guilty Spark is dead, Prophet Truth is dead, the Elites have returned to their homeworld, the Flood has been utterly wiped out and humanity is in the process of rebuilding... I honestly don't see where the series can possibly go from this point. I do still rather like to think the main trilogy is over which it quite possibly still is.
That said I do not mind so much about spin offs and such because Halo is a big universe that spans a lot of branching paths, it's not crazy to imagine that they can make quite a few of them and as others said it's not even that many games compared to some of the other franchises and it really isn't fair to accuse Halo of milking when comparitivley there are other game franchises just as guilty.

I do think you can go somewhere with Arby and Half-Jaw taking Sanghellios back from the Jiralhanae. Maybe some other early conflicts of the war, like what they did in Halo Wars, although hopefully not as an RTS. Maybe even go back further and show us the Rebellion from before the humans met the covies, maybe even frame it up alongside the formation of the covies (sure as hell not concurrent, but they wouldn't have to be), like the "taming of the Hunters" and the "Grunt rebellion" mentioned in Halo 2. Hell, maybe give us the Forerunner-Gravemind war, that could be good too. Lot of good stuff left in the series, I think.

Yeah I agree, there's still plenty of content to help make a good series of games. I just still somewhat get the impression that the whole Covenant ending and such symbolised the end of the main trilogy but still I'd love to see a game where you play as the elites versus the brutes... maybe even a games called:
"SANGHEILI CHRONICLES"
In which it takes you through various moments in Halo's history through the eyes of an elite warrior and shows you more of the Covenant perspective. I guess it's true, there's a lot of stuff we haven't covered yet but would make good games. So I suppose I can be cautiously optimistic about this new move of contuning the series.

Can you say trilogy creep [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TrilogyCreep]?

But more on topic, I'm not having high hopes, but I'm not discounting the possibility of exploring what happened after Halo 3 either.

God, I'd love Sangheili Chronicles (despite the fact that I can never spell "Sangheili" correctly), but given how many people bitched about playing as Arby in Halo2 (A.K.A the best fucking part of the game! /rage), I find it doubtful.

Call me a fanboy, but I'm glad. Very glad. The Halo universe is a lot deeper than most people think, and the same goes for the story. Bungie's done a superb job of bringing this universe to life, and if this means they get to keep doing what they're doing, then who the heck has a problem with that?

And as time goes on, not only will they likely improve, but we'll get more high-quality games to play and enjoy. Who knows, maybe we'll even get a multiplayer experience from them in a later game that trumps Halo 3's!

On behalf of American gamers everywhere, I apologize.
That was not directed to american gamers. It was directed to minors that neglected to read the stamp that said "M for mature" I apologize however for the "american" part, It was just an observation since most kids I see were american...

Might be good, might not be. Either way Bungie has announced that they have plans to work one more after ODST and then they are pulling out of the franchise
