The reason you feel a "hangover" is because the body is severely dehydrated, therefor by drinking gatorade, which hydrates you (why do you think athletes drink it?) and McDonalds (the grease helps absorb the leftover alcohol that hasn't been processed) or something similar is the quickest and easiest way. Keep in mind, it may be difficult to down the egg mcmuffin if you're feeling quite sick, but like I said just give it 15 minutes or so.

Water, lots of water. If you actually drink a bottle of water for every two or three drinks you have the same night you are drinking, you will most likely not have a hangover.

There are two tried and true method's in my experience depending on the severity of the hangover.

1) light or medium hangover: exercise. You will feel terrible for a while but you will sweat it out (you will smell of whatever you were drinking, its funny) and then feel better for the rest of the day.
2) heavy hangover: Cider or gin and tonic. Take one per hour until two hours before you go to bed (approx 6-8 hours). At this point stop, drink several pints of water over the next two hours. Take 3/4 ibuprofen just before you go to bed, you will sleep through the worst hangover symptoms and wake up better in the morning. N.b waking up in the middle of the night needing to piss is not uncommon in this method. The real trick is to keep drinking slowly all day, you are just preventing the hangover happening until you are asleep!

Wasn't there an escapist article about a bacon sandwich being the ultimate cure for a hangover?
I don't know about the thread, but eat a lot of oily and salty foods, like bacon and eggs. Then drink lots of water and other fluids. I back the Gatorade suggestion. Last time me and my buds drank (last week for my birthday) we mixed some Gatorade, Vodka and Sprite. We had about 2 bottles (about 1 liter each) of Vodka that was shared among 5-6 people, and we didn't get hammered... as much. Anyway, the point is, we had no hangover the morning after.

EDIT:
And to avoid future hangovers, don't sleep right after drinking. Drink some water first, so that the poison is not the only thing in your system when you sleep.

EDIT 2:

And this will help you feel full much quicker, leading to less drinking. Less drinking = less chance of getting a hangover.

best way to avoid hangovers is to not drink so much obviously. but if you know you're in for a heavy night of drinking... first, eat a big meal. preferably something greasy/oily. italian food is best, but mcdonalds will do.
attempt to drink water during the night (i tell myself that every time, only to forget), and drink gatorade BEFORE you go to sleep. don't take paracetemol beforehand either - it'll thin your blood, and thus make the alcohol's affect stronger.
... actually, if you want a cheap night out, take some panadol before starting the night.

and of course, hair of the dog is a quick, but very temporary method... i recommend G'n'T.

Full english breakfast with extra tea and a double dose of aspirin ... after that have a small workout then a cold shower and lastly, a gallon of water (as much as you can drink without throwing up) ... never fails

Step one : Drink so much water than you cant drink anymore

Step two : drink more

Step three: throw up

Step four repeat those steps, until your simply throwing up water.

Before you go to sleep, eat something salty like crisps and drink some water or a sports drink. Salt makes your body store fluids wich counters the dehydrating effect of alcohol.

The next morning you just need to drink some more and eat something fat to settle your stomach.

Because of the coious amounts of drinking I do (sorry liver), I don't get hangovers anymore, but what used to always help me was going for a run. I know it sucks, and you might even have to throw up part-way into it, but after you're done, you feel like a million bucks. Throwing up is great, too, it always helps.
