Hopefully Last Light doesn't have any bullshitty sections.
This. A billion times this.

Those bloody things inspired so much rage in me. I think that was the first time in any game I was honestly tempted to smash my keyboard.

Thankfully, before I could do that, I figured out the trick, and once you figure it out, they become piss-easy.

In case anyone's wondering, the solution is to shoot the nipples as soon as they become visible. You can destroy them and they stop being able to make more amoebas.

I bought the game cheaply a couple of years after it was released.

I thought it was a pretty damn good game. Not amazing, but considering it's a new IP, and based upon a book that wasn't really that action packed, I think they did a very good job.

There were a couple of "bullshit" sections (the librarians and the amoeba's) but overall I quite enjoyed it. I especially liked the look of the weapons and clothing. You genuinely felt like you were living on improvised items and scraping by.

It's the kind of thing gaming needs more of, but it definitely could do with some more polish.

The book is a lot better though. It's a brilliant book and you should read it.
It got very supernatural at one point, didn't it. I was surprised at the direction it went in. I think some of those elements would work very well in the game, it'd certainly make it feel more unique and stand out from other shooters.

Got it on Steam, played most of it once but never finished it. Now I restarted and made it to the library which has a genuinely scary as fuck moment. When you go for the ammo near the hole (you can choose not to do this thankfully) and that librarian grabs you, OH FUCK SHIT *screams like a little girl* and you have to make constant eye contact or it kills you. My bowels can't take that again so I'm just nading that hole.

It definitely is a nice game, not quite for everyone perhaps and not without some faults but I would recommend it.

On a side-note @Legion That avi, from the Third Combustion?

Couldn't agree more.

One of my most adored games of all time.

I especially love the endings.

In any other given game, one ending is EVIL BAD BAD BAD and one ending is the angelic supper boyscout. Metro made it so beautifully ambiguous.

I actually consider the nuke ending to be the "Good" ending. The Dark Ones were too stupid to even figure out how to contact humanity without killing people or driving them insane and with the knowledge of them Artyom had, there was no reason to assume good intentions.

It just didn't make me feel like a dick. Rather than the ending monologue being something about how humanity is the only people worthy and it gave Artyom pleasure to wipe out the Xeno scum, it was a lament about what had to be done in the name of his family and friends.

Wonderfully ambiguous.

And the atmosphere...... Oh god the atmosphere......

I could drool over 2033 for hours.

And yes, I already have Last Light pre-ordered. I just hope they don't COMPLETELY fuck up the brilliant nature of the ending. Though from the looks of it, they already have. BUT WHATEVER. I'm down no matter what.

Amazing game! Played it and loved it and played it again.
Truly one of the most atmospheric games I've ever played.

Fantastic game, but definitely only really enjoyable for me on Hard (I didn't get to play it on Ranger Hardcore because I got it on the 360 and refused to spend points on a difficulty level, as it was DLC for us folk.) I'm almost painfully excited for Last Light, and it might just be a game I'll buy full-price.

I imagine I would've liked the game a lot more if its mandatory stealth elements weren't utterly broken if you didn't use the throwing knives. And not broken in the fun Metal Gear Solid way where you can toy with the silly AI and still get away if they happen to catch a glimpse of your leg.

I like stealth games, I like shooters, and Metro 2033 was a lot of fun. Until I reached the apocalypse-Nazi camp early on in the game that you had to stealth through, because getting spotted or missing a one-hit-kill meant every enemy in the area (a large area with a lot of enemies) immediately had telepathic knowledge of exactly where you were standing, and multiple machine gun turret placements from above would rain hell down on you while guys with shotguns and AKs riddled you from below.

Only game I can think of in recent memory that turned a complete 180 within the first five hours and made me ragequit so hard that I uninstalled it.
The worst part was that sometimes when you stealth killed someone, it would still alert everyone to your presence, so trying for the "good" ending is a pain in the ass piled on an even bigger pain in the ass, and both pains in the ass are playing hackey sack with your crotch. Though I do have to admit, the enemy not forgetting about your existence after five seconds of hiding is refreshing. The fact that they become telepathically linked to you when you're spotted might have something to do with that though...

And then you get to one of the last areas and amoebas. Just...amoebas. Most bullshit stretch of game I've ever had the displeasure of encountering. An escort mission with bullet sponge enemies THAT FUCKING EXPLODE!!!!! Fun times.

My favourite place was the Ghost Tunnel, and the bits you spend alone in the dark tunnels + the stations with people in them felt really athmospheric. It reminded me of STALKER's eerier areas.
I should hope so 4A games are former GSC employees who designed the underground sections of Shadow of Chernobyl.

I loved the game, but, only after the console hand holding was removed with Ranger mode, its much like turning all that garbage off in BioShock (Vita Chambers, quest arrow, item glow, and other dumbing down tools). Other than that it is up there with my top favorites like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Great story, and atmosphere. I can't wait for Last Light. Also rad the book it is really good.

One of my favourite games.

Play it on Ranger Hardcore for the legit experience.

Don't buy guns, you get 'em for free anyway. Buy the stealth suit if you're going to sneak. Take the lower path on Frontline. The Helsing is the best weapon for the library. Amoebas die instantly if you hit them in the middle. It's possible to get through Black Station and Frontline without killing anyone.

Aye, liked it... not as much as I liked S.T.A.L.K.E.R. once I got further than fifty feet without getting fried by an anomaly, executed by some random ball lightning or shot by someone that didn't like my face. First game I chose to play in Russian, so much better.

As for the amoebas someone mentioned...

Like with Dark Souls, I think there are manageable solutions to this... issue. Other games had plenty more of these, and plenty worse, too.

I really enjoyed it, completed it twice, then started on ranger hard but never finished it, have to get back to that.

Holy shit though, Amoebas............the first time I played through it, they kicked my ass so hard that I don't think I could have uninstalled the game any quicker.

Luckily I went back and tried again afterwards.

It is freaking amazing.

I know exactly what part you're talking about. It wasn't until after failing for about an hour and a half that I got past, only to finally be presented with a loading tip telling me I could destroy amoeba generators. Fuck, if I had known that, it would have been only 1/3rd as difficult.

The damn Amoebas were actually crazy hard and since you had to babysit that other doofus it became near impossible.... until you use the expensive bullets.

I tried going the whole game not using the expensive bullets (every shot was costing me a gold/dollar/buck/quid) but for that one level I had no choice and it became fairly easy.

I really really enjoyed the game, the bullets as money idea was awesome. I scavenged and saved every bullet and only used the rusty crap ones, at the end of the game I had like 300 good bullets left, lol. I missed the "Good"Ending but I still had alot of fun. Definitely getting last light.

I too dug the atmosphere, but I didn't finish it.

Certain parts didn't gel, and in hindsight, yeah, they were the impossible stealth parts.

I don't remember the amoebas being that hard, but it's been a while.

Where I had issues was after getting lost in the libary and fucking about for ages I wasn't able to spend my vast amounts of worthless money buying breather filters in the safezone afterwards and had to basically sprint through the following section to avoid being deaded by running out of air.

Other than that, great "arcade" S.T.A.L.K.E.R. experience.
