Has Pokemon always sucked?

It was always a kid orientated show but after one of the main writers left his name escapes me the show did start to deteriorate a bit but its general spirit and soul still remains in my opinion to this day. Although it will get awkward when Ash is like 88 looks like Herbet and is going around playing with little kids pokeballs.

The main problem is that it sticks to the exact same formula and never really attempts to mix it up what so ever with even Ash still being 10. Now while there is an argument if it ain't broke don't fix it but a bit of variety to break up the monotony of it when I still watched it would have been nice. Although more than Pokemon is guilty of that.

I doubt that it was really as good as I remember it to be. I haven't watched it in a while now and I'll stick with "never meet your childhood heroes".

well it wasnt a master piece but it was enogh to make 6-12 year old me (and friends) run from school home with exitment so i wont miss the few first minuites!
and yea it most definitly was never as bad as it is now...

Me and my friend did a Pokemon night and watched the first 1 and I quite enjoyed it, along with comments that made it better.(Every time James said something we'd say up my ass at the end). Other than it being predictable I love the show, and as a kid it was freaking awesome. The new stuff not so much but I can live with it.

I wouldn't say it was ever excellent, but at least some characters weren't retarded and the villains seemed like actual threats...

I quite liked the Pokemon anime of days past. I cannot say that I am as fond of the newer ones. As in, I do not like them. At all.

You might want to think about changing the title of this thread to avoid flame wars and general insults from fanboys.

Nevertheless, I enjoy the pokemon anime, and the original series, in my opinion, was the best of all seasons. Well, at least up until Master's Quest. That's when it started to go down in quality. But you can't really blame this on the writers. They have to walk such a thin line and on egg shells when they write for children's shows since everything is so censored anymore. Children's shows today (save for shows like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, or similar shows) are so cheesy, weak, and juvenile that not even their target audiences like them. So in a way, the biggest problem here is the ever constricting grip on the writers about what is appropriate and what isn't placed upon them by their producer bosses.

Not always, the first few seasons were... decent, to say the least. Then after Master Quest, it all started going downhill... *SIGH*
