When I was young, around 7 or 8, I had an awsome uncle Doug. Doug was awsome because he was the only grown-up I knew who played video games, and when he was done I usually inherited them. Now, one Christmas, bundled with the latest batch of games Doug had beat, was a game I had never heard of called Parasite Eve for the PS1. Neither me nor my parents understood what the M rating meant, and when I attempted to play it, The very first thing I saw was an opera house full of people being burned alive. I freaked the fuck out. I had up until that point played only cute & cuddly Nintendo games, and had no idea games like this existed. When I was even younger I had a similar moment in Mario 64, when a piano tried to eat me. Now I'm now fully desensitized to video game violence, but has there ever been a moment in any game that, at some point in your life, scared the shit out of you?
parasite eve didn't scare me that much until
you fall into the hospital basement and the power goes out. also in the museum when i saw the tyrannosaur skeleton and was like "oh shit."

I think I Have the most disturbing one of all time. Anyone who has played Psychonauts may have found the room that discuses Milla's eight (I think is was eight) children that died in a fire. well in the room there is a chest that when opened will take you to a chamber populated by eight (I think) emotional demons that scream things like "it burns" and "Milla, why did you let us die!?!" Anyone else have a bad reaction to that?
DEAR GOD YES IT'S HORRIFYING EVEN NOW.

none of that compares to the horror that is Scribe Shanky though. anyone who played Brave Fencer Musashi knows what i mean.

Oh it doesn't look like much, but the further you go the more the game does to mess with your head and creep you out. There wasn't any particular part that was disturbing, but the cumulative effect left my nerves so frayed by the end that I couldn't stop laughing (in that nervous way)
And THAT is a lesson on how horror really works. I hope your taking notes.

DAMN YOU. IT'S DARK ALL THE WAY UP TO MY ROOM.

What about that spider splicer in the beginning who slammed the guy against the bathysphere and gutted him right in front of you? That was pretty messed up.

That game did an amazing job of setting the tone in the start with the very "standard" part of rapture seen for the first time and the splicers right up to the o so memorable big dad drill thru splicer part

That game did a unblievable job of putting you in the "standard" halls of rapture at the start with splicers jumping up everywhere and really setting a great tone right up to the big dad drill inter splicer bit

The time in Majora's Mask when I really, truly realized, after Mikau died in front of me, "Wait a second. I'm impersonating dead people and walking around in their societies. What happens when I leave?"

Oh, and...Tsukihime. Ciel's True Ending.

"Destroy. Destroy. Destroy.
Slowly, completely, gently beyond comparison, cruelly to the point of numbness, I'll violate your life.

That's right.

The instant I tear off your limbs, rip open your chest and pull out your intestines, biting into your neck as you ask for mercy, chewing through your eyes and spreading your brains on the ground like butter------!"

When you and Johnny Gat buried Shogo alive. (Saints Row 2).
That was way too brutal, the guy was just a kid. And he wasn't the one that killed Gat's girlfriend. A simple bullet to the head would do the job.

And this scene from Phantasmagoria - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAQ-C1suCEY
I have no idea how someone could enjoy this twisted game.

Max Payne, with the dream scene where you're walking on the blood and if you fall off the baby screams... creepy screaming noises freak me out every time.

I'm quite easily unsettled in games, especially ones like Condemned (eg. when you go through the room with the manequins), BioShock, FEAR and Halflife 2 (the Ravenholm level).

The only time i've ever really been 'disturbed' was while playing the Snuff levels in Vampire Bloodlines. God, very creepy.

Just watching those videos and the idea of a person being lured into a house with deformed, two legged mutants that chase her, jump on her and maul her to death - and her screams as the camera fades out into blackness that freaked me the fuck out. And just the whole idea that some people filmed it and sold it as entertainment.

It only got creepier as you end up doing your detective work and finding out more information, and in the end actually going to the house it was filmed at and having to explore all those dank rooms expecting one to jump out at any giving moment. The first time I actually fought one is something I resent too because I had built up a certain fear for them before even encountering one.

The atmosphere on those levels was hands-down the most gripping i've experienced in a game.

Hmmm, very good question.
I havent actually really played F.E.A.R properly, mostly I've just been checking videos on youtube, trying it at my friends house, watching someone play it or readin up on the wikia page, but the whole scene with the little girl giving birth, when she looks like shes about 8-10 years old, the "father" or whatever revealed to be a soldier at the age of 30... That disturbed me quiet well.
But for the games I've played myself, I dont think there is such a moment that really got to me.
Maby the time when I was about 10 or so and played Tomb Raider with my dad and we were in a temple when a giant T-Rex showed up and we had to hide behind pillars and shit to not get our asses eaten. It may not sound so disturbing, but I get really paranoid when I think about it, becuse the feeling of hiding from certain death that could at any moment just poke its head in through the door and bite your pinky finger and head off, is quiet bothering.
But thats all I can think of really.
If you think that scene's bad in the first one.
You should play F.E.A.R.2.
There's a rape scene which I really didn't expect, and while ti surprised me, I don't think anything's really disturbed me.
Anything in videogames doesn't bother me. Real life and tv shows are another matter...

Was that game really that bad? I played like the first 3 levels of it and it was a little creepy but nothing too scary or disturbing. Should I keep going?

Bioshock, in the Farmer's Market i think it was (dont remember too much). When u walk up to one of the work benches that has a spotlight shining right on it, u pick up one of the audio track things and when u look up theres a shadow of a Splicer on the wall right in front of u. i literally jumped out of my chair and shut off the game for awhile.

In Bioshock (I know, a lot of people got freaked out by that game) when you find the audio log about the puppy. That is just....wrong. Having to kill your own puppy that you just got and gave me you happiness by snapping its neck...truly disturbing.

When I was 11 I played a Resident Evil 2 demo (Leon). There's this area after the Gunshop that has 4 zombies having a feeding frenzy on a corpse... believe me for a kid who was until then only playing platformers like Crash Bandicoot ...it's pretty disturbing.
